Riding Journal

Steamboat 12/16/07

It was a rough start this morning that’s for sure. Not only did I hang out at bar last night with friends for most of the night…but I also had offered to give my roommate a ride to the Hayden airport at 6am. So it was a late start riding kind of day.

A lot of the flights have been arriving into Steamboat so tourists are back in town full swing. I figured today would be pretty packed but it wasn’t too bad in terms of lines.

It was another bluebird sunny day in Steamboat. I thought today would be colder but it was pretty nice and warm outside on the mountain.

No lines at the Thunderhead Chairlift all day

I got texted and made laps until I found my friends at the bottom of Christie. Rode with Tom and Andrew for the day…both amazing park skiers.
Today was just a fun overall day, we kept pretty much to lower mountain which was dead with no lines and lapped the park all day. It was pretty sweet to new the new setups which included jumps and a couple smaller rails. The bigger terrain park is over still near Thunderhead.

4 Smaller rails set up in the park
Tom’s classic style of downing a tasty beverage while riding a rail.

The highlight of the day was getting to Christie chairlift late in the day around 3:30 for the last laps on the mountain…getting about 100 feet past the bottom and having the chairlift break down. Luckily we were only like 10 feet above a fresh couple feet of powder so once the liftie came up to us and told us the chair was broken…we just jumped off. Quite fun to finish out the day with. Good thing the gondola was up and running so we didn’t miss out on the last run of the day.

Yeah Steamboat is a really cool mountain to live near. We’re a bit isolated but some great riding here and fun days! Hopefully you get a chance to come check out Steamboat.
