Snowboard Review: 08-09 O-matic Celebrity

2008-2009 O-matic Celebrity

Location: Keystone, Colorado

Snow Conditions: Cold, overcast with hard packed groomed runs.

Setup: I rode the O-matic celebrity with Flux Titan bindings and my Vans Omni Focus boots.

First Impression: hey…this handles pretty good for a more freestyle specific board.

Size: 158cm

Weight: Average. I might be wrong on this since the flux were heavier, the board weight could be lighter than average.

Flex: Definitely one of the more softer flex boards I rode for the day, but it was still stable to ride groomers. I liked that the nose and tail were softer while giving a good stiffer flex between the bindings allowing it to handle chop relatively good.

Turning: Definitely a easy more mellow sidecut, with slower edge to edge response. By the end of the day it was a fun mellow ride for making turns, not aggressive and letting the rider slowly ease into each turn.

Stable: It surprised me by cutting through the choppier terrain without any problems. I felt it a little unstable at higher speeds.

Pop: Super poppy and easy to ollie with. You could just load back onto the tail and your already flying superman with the spring of the board.

Switch: It was easy to initiate into switch turns and riding switch with. It’s a true twin…so rode perfectly fine with the flex riding switch. I had a lot of fun going from regular to switch and buttering it up in helicopters with the Celebrity.

Pipe: I didn’t take the Celebrity into the halfpipe but hopefully next time I ride it…I will.

Overall Impression: I had fun riding with it as it offered up a fun ride for more freestyle on-snow tricks. It was nice having it be a easier ride. Still was easy to ride and decent on the groomers.

Shay’s Honesty Box: Not my style of board, in width in flex but a fun overall board.

Hey, first off… sick blogs on everything, really informative.
I found this sight looking for K2s line up for next season. They all look sick as hell, cant wait for next years stuff. Plus all your blogs about riding everywhere in CO is helpful for me, cuz im planing on moving to CO next season for some straight up shred.

I demoed the O-matic Celebrity back in febuary at Bear Mtn, and i was amazed. I had no idea a cheap deck for under 400 could ride like that!
Everything you mentioned about the deck was spot on!
The reason that it is so slow from edge to edge and is a tad catchy, is because O-matic does not put a bevel on their decks, that is how they sell them for so cheap, putting a bevel is another process they decided to leave out to keep the price lower.

Also i ride Flux bindings religiously, and i personally believe they are light as a feather, then again i used to ride UNION’s and they arent any where near being light. when i rode my set up on the omatic i seriously went to space and back, because of how light the deck was with the binding combination.

Other than that im picking up the celeb, in a 55 and the k2 beleive in a 59 next season, cant wait!

Thanks Dave! Glad your stoked on the blog. Yeah K2’s line next year is definitely worth checking out. Awesome you are moving to CO and this helps you. CO is amazing…definitely some fun riding here.

Sweet you got on the celebrity as well and find the review similar to your own opinion. Thanks for pointing out the bevel, I tend to ignore that stuff and just ride boards out of the factory.

I definitely want to spend more time riding Flux’s. I like the design of them, very comfortable.
