Steamboat 4/12/09

The season ended at Steamboat today with closing day for mountain operations.  With over 400 inches this year was a good year, plenty of powder days to make me happy and a fun winter in the boat.

5 inches fell on upper mountain in the last 24 hours, but with warm temperatures and rain on lower mountain it didn’t make the conditions great for today.  Low visibility, choppy leftover snow and some good spots.

Off the Storm Peak chairlift is a bra tree, last year I watched Amy sacrifice to it and this year I offered a bra that landed on the tree in a good spot.  There’s also panties and beads on our tree but the bra was bright enough to make it.

There were plenty of costumes on the mountain today

With the end of season tradition, we hiked up to the top of the mountain.  Morningside chair closed yesterday which meant a hike from the top of Storm Peak to get to the end of season festivities on top.  The activities in the base were more family friendly and the stuff on top was locals just hanging out.

Despite the hike to get up there, people came out to hang out.  Plenty of drinks and good times just hanging out.  I stayed up for a couple hours as the lifts closed to see friends and check out the scene.

Patrol makes sweeps to bring trash bags and pick up trash.  The big thing is making sure everyone makes it home safe after being up there.

I made it down safely with friends and made it home safe.  Glad that today is not the end of the season for me, that there’s other days I can end on a fun note.
