Espn’s Colin Whyte writes about Shayboarder

August 19th, 2009

As a blogger I never expected to be recognized by snowboard media but every time that I meet the writers/editors that helped shape snowboarding I am taken aback that they know of the site.  Last month, Espn.com’s Colin Whyte approached me about doing a Q & A about shayboarder.com and I was really honored to have my work be the subject of choice.  The article is now up on espn.com so click on the photo to make your way to read Colin’s amazing writing and drop some comments on the article.

The full article is on espn snowboarding here

I had difficulty getting the full story to load but it just required some empty cache and refreshes to get it to come up.

  4. JB Says:

Shay I’m echoing the comments above I can’t get the story to come up at all. On a side not for you to keep this alive … I think it would be helpful to other bloggers and readers to understand how you got a story about shayboarder.com on ESPN (do you know Colin, Did he seek you out, how long has this been rumbling around). Good coaching moment for everybody else. Also, share what impact this had to your traffic! Congrats on this though good opportunity for you….

shay writes in her article above: “it just required some empty cache and refreshes to get it to come up.”

same here, had to try about 10-15 times. So empty your caches and press reload as often as you can :)

  6. Shay Says:

Colin said they are working on making the link work so it’s not needing to be refreshed and the cache emptied to pull it up. So hopefully it works soon :)

JB, I’ll definitely talk about it. I’ve never met Colin but I know of him (big reader of Future when he was the editor) and he emailed me in the past to help with a question I had. Colin came to me about doing a article on shayboarder.com in late July and we got the ball rolling with questions and my answers in late July. Since then it’s been a waiting game to see when it would go up on espn snowboarding.

The increase in traffic, I’ll know more as the day goes on. Definitely higher numbers for today but the link is also having an issue so we shall see.

Thanks for the support and good wishes on the article.

  23. Shay Says:

So to answer JB’s question about traffic because of the espn article, between that and Transworld Business also linking to the site and the article, my traffic was about 45% more than normal. So yesterday was a great day on the blog!

  24. JB Says:

Sounds like a nice boost. Always interested what endemic and non-endemic media provide in terms of traffic acceleration. I hope the newcomers stick around and bookmark Shayboarder.com.

  25. martin beran Says:

!! traffic shmaffic !! its gotta be great to read an article that gives you so much props! I really enjoyed reading about you in the 3rd person instead of just reading your writing in the first person.

I’ve never heard of transworld business… what is that? I guess I could ask you in the ask shay section but i’m already here :)

  26. Shay Says:

Thanks JB, definitely it is cool to check it out.

Martin, haha yeah definitely rad to get the props and from peers who I really admire is the raddest thing ever. I made sure my family saw it and they were all stoked.

  27. Banshee Bungee Says:
