Bond Outerwear 2010-2011

Onto it’s second year of bringing sustainable practices into snowboarding, Bond Outerwear continues their sustainability commitment and outerwear based on inspiration.  If it’s any inspiration to snowboarders they show that one man’s trash can be another man’s treasure (or in Bond’s case, another man’s cargo pocket snap).

I first heard about Bond when Tj Schneider joined the pro team in their first year and anything Tj backs has my attention but I’m now totally impressed by their catalog’s use of words.  Not only do they use “taint” in tech features, they have hands down the best product descriptions I’ve read in a snowboard catalog.  For example, their shelter jacket is described as “This is the jacket that makes even the most grizzled mountain crusts stop in their tracks and stare at it’s revolutionary three layer construction and welded seams.  Their next question as if it comes in black.  Indeed it does.  And, it has squirrels on the liners.  We just figured that would have been their next question.”

All of their outer shells and inner liners utilize a blend of recycled PET (made from plastic bottles and containers), and virgin polyester that is completely recyclable.  In fact most of the materials you see on the outerwear are made from discarded materials, snaps from plastic pellets for example.  They use the coconut grove wicking system where these discarded shells from the food industry provide a very active level of evaporative cooling and odor resistance blended into a small amount of polyester to create a inner lining.  Their outerwear features a mix of useable highlights such as the thumbderwear keeping your jackets in place and snow out of your wrists, waste management pocket for snotty kleenex or candy wrappers, goggle wipes to wipe your foggy goggles or nose, collar snow dam to offer a pillow like softness around your neck and keep snow out and no scuff pants that help keep your pants in good condition where they drag the most.

Burrito, totally agree with you. It was impressive in person.

K, I have the catalog but I couldn’t find a jacket in men’s or women’s with the same button pocket design…I emailed Dan at Bond to find out if I’m just being blind. Will let you know.

Shoemaker jacket is my personal favorite.

It looks like a girl jacket. I haven’t seen any of the bond this past season in person either so I wonder how it is. Looking good though!
