Time to move on…

Four years ago I packed up my truck with all my belongings and moved to Colorado for resort town living. I arrived in Steamboat Springs without a home, job and unsure of what the future would hold for me but all I wanted was to snowboard.  The move ended up being the best decision I’ve made as I made a life for myself in Colorado and the snowboarding scene.  I never expected to become shayboarder but the choices I’ve made have allowed me to follow my own dreams and showcase my passion for snowboarding on this blog.  I’m about to embark on another journey, another decision where I don’t know the outcome but I’m ready to try something new.  At the end of May, I’ll be ending my job with Steamboat Ski & Resort, leaving Steamboat Springs and moving to Mt Hood for the summer.

I’ve accepted a job with Windells Camp to work on their social media this summer and continue snowboarding over the summer at Mt Hood.  I’m really excited to be working for Windells with such a great crew of people and excited for the opportunity.  Even though I’d be leaving a year round job, security and a home…it was an easy decision to make in return for a summer at Windells doing something I love so much.  At the same time I’m nervous, anxious and excited for the unknown that lies ahead and I am so happy to have the support of my friends and family.

What this means for the blog is the opportunity to prove myself with Windells in hopes that come August I can find a job that suits me in the snowboard industry.  For shayboarder.com it means continuing to write all summer about snowboarding, shred journals from Timberline, Industry Interviews as planned and seeing where this takes me.  If you are out at Mt Hood this summer, come say hi to me!

I’m ready for the next step and I hope you make it with me as I embark on this new journey.

Thanks everyone for the great words, I have the best readers in the world and it’s so great to have your support and stokage!

Summer at Hood is definitely a dream and I can’t wait to share it with you guys this summer. It’ll be rad to meet more of you this summer and really I’m just all smiles about everything.

Ozzie, awesome we should definitely meet up when you move out in August and really commendable for following your dream.

Mike, Colorado is still in the running but it all depends on the job when it comes down to what state I’ll end up in for next winter.

Gil, rad to hear. Vancouver is such a cool city and love Whistler! Living at Mt Hood will put me closer to my family so a lot easier to see them when I want to.

IN 1996 I did the same thing, put it all in a U-Haul truck moved out to Utah and settled in for some great snowboarding. Putting it all out there makes for a fun journey and great memeories. After our talk at Brighton Ive been waiting to see how this played out. Hood will be wonderful and Windells is a perfect fit! Good Luck and let me know if you come through on the way to the PNW, maybe the Bird will still be rockin and we can ride together again!

You’ve got friends around the globe Shay, so keep on rolling!;)

“The greatest adventure is what lies ahead.
Today and tomorrow are yet to be said.
The chances, the changes are all yours to make.
The mold of your life is in your hands to break.

The greatest adventure is there if you’re bold.
Let go of the moment that life makes you hold.
    To measure the meaning can make you delay;
It’s time you stop thinkin’ and wasting the day.

The man who’s a dreamer and never takes leave
Who thinks of a world that is just make-believe
Will never know passion, will never know pain.
Who sits by the window will one day see rain.

The greatest adventure is what lies ahead.
Today and tomorrow are yet to be said.
The chances, the changes are all yours to make.
The mold of your life is in your hands to break.

Good luck! So funny – This winter I took my 10-year-old daughter, Anna, to Steamboat for her first time skiing there. She saw the signs saying, “Billy Kidd is skiing today.” She asked who Billy Kidd is, I explained, and then she asked, “Why don’t they have signs saying whether Shayboarder is riding today?”!! Anna often looks over my shoulder at the computer when I’m checking your blog, and obviously she thinks you rock. Thanks for all the Steamboat stoke, and your amazing support of snowboarding.

Susannah, that is the best story! Tell Anna she just made my day with that story, so rad to hear that! Someday we’ll ride together at Steamboat 🙂 I know I’ll make trips back to visit in the future.
