Timberline & Windells Camp 6/29/10

Most of session 3 at Windells has been sunny bluebird days but today the cold overcast skies came out for the morning on the slopes.  It was a reminder that even though it’s summer snowboarding, there’s always a chance for winter weather on the mountain.  I headed up a little later than usual but went straight to the Windells park to get in some laps.

One new noticeable feature is the Sammy Invitational jump that was built…the takeoff is built into the ground

I ended up with the adult camper group to follow the Windells Camper of the Day Kim who was getting back on the boxes after an injury this winter.

I was having an off day so I spent no time working on my park skills today but just cruising which was fun since I got to watch everyone else.  One noticeable thing this summer has been the young shredders popping up on the mountain and at the camp, we’ve had 4 year olds ripping up the mountain and skateparks which is so rad to see kids at a young age getting into snowboarding.

I headed down the mountain to catch up with Mike from Windells Academy and ended up running into Louie Vito fresh on arrival to Hood.  It definitely cheered up my day to get a hug from Louie and stoked that he’ll be in the Windells pipe tomorrow getting some training done.

Tim sent me this shot of Louie walking around camp with Rachel from the Oregonian.

After dinner it was time for the on-campus activities like dodgeball and the sponsored contests.  I walked the dodgeball go down in the courtyard after stopping by the Neff RV to get an ice cream from Jeremy and Cope.

I just started skateboarding again and planning on getting better but definitely not ready for the concrete jungle skatepark at Windells so I ended up sitting on the side with some of the staff to watch the skatepark and bag jump action go on.  Chas Guldemond has been around camp and was skating today in the park.

Dry slope bag jump on campus in full swing but unfortunately my camera on my phone isn’t as good as my real camera

Tonight is my first night at the Windells Academy house where I get to chill with the Academy kids that live year round at Windells.
