Yay! lets all support a ski company! wasn’t Salomon one of the big guns in the 80’s to petition Snowboarding not be allowed on the ski resorts?

Eh, definitely your own opinion so understandable but salomon builds snowboards…and legit ones.

Jake Burton tried to patent the snowboard from everyone else so maybe you are thinking of him.

Yeah let’s hate on everything and everyone that had a hard time accepting snowboarding back in the day. Don’t ride your local mountain, they didn’t allow you to in the eighties, so why go now? If we don’t forgive and forget, all we are doing is backpedaling allowing skiiers to hate us like they used to.

Regardless of what went on with Salomon in the past, their boards are kick-ass and they are just as committed to snowboarding as the core brands. Not to mention they support riders based on their skills more than marketability. Just look at their team, Bode, Jed, Wolle, Louif, etc. I never thought I’d say this 10 years ago, but I really like what Salomon is doing. They make some sick product.

Burton on the other hand, unforgivable. Just my opinion.

so where are those core brands then? like DWD, Signal, StepChild… ?? or do we now put ski companies ahead of those core brands that are actually owned by themselves.
Hey atleast Burton hasn’t sold out to Jarden Corp/Car Mate/Wall Street Hedge Fund… etc like other “core” companies are.
Saloman support riders by giving them massive amounts of $$, the legit core snowboard brands can’t do that because people buy Salomon instead as they have the dollars to put in crazy marketing campaigns because its funded from their ski program.

either way, Shay you do a good job on this site, Its just a shame to see the remaining core brands being overlooked for the likes of Salomon…

I understand riders having the right to support whoever they want and not supporting certain brands. But really to me, I see great things happening from all brands regardless of whether they are “ski or snowboard”. Without the K2 gyrator, we might not be riding our rocker boards right now and they were years ahead of any core brands. Ride what you like and what you enjoy.

In 1990, Jake Burton tried to patent the snowboard. If he got away with that, i bet there wouldn’t be a DWD or Signal or Stepchild..because they’d have to pay money to create snowboards. Salomon/K2/whoever else makes snowboards and in my eyes, if they support snowboarding then I’m fine with writing about them. It’s my blog 🙂 Also every company that agrees to meet with me at SIA gets a write up…so you’ll get the “core” companies eventually. Just depends on when I put them up.

thanks for the early info, Shay.

i find it kinda funny that folks are still aggro about companies that started as ski brands. i find it funnier that in the same post, someone who champions indie companies also defends Burton. also, sadly, no boarder gets paid massive amounts of money except for X-Games headliners.

great season, having fun, loving my Grip

    Hi Shay,

great blog! I just recently stumbled upon it.
A question for you: Is Salomon going to make Ivy in 2012?

    April 5, 2011 at 5:22 am

    Hey Shay

Great post! I love salomon boards. Is this their whole line up for 2012? I was trying to find the salmon special II for 2012. Did they discontinue that?

Can you explain what Cross camber profile is?

  • Shay
    April 12, 2011 at 1:56 pm

Snow, The ivy is not in the 2011-2012 catalog.

N12x, not seeing the special in the 2011-2012 catalog either. The cross camber is camber between the feet and rocker on tip and tail. It’s available on the man’s board, titan, idol and lark.
