Six years of Shayboarder

Six years ago I sat in front of my computer writing my introduction to the World of Snowboarding on shayboarder.com. It began with a blog post, zero views and no expectations on where it would go or lead me. I never expected that shayboarder.com would change my life, lead me to amazing experiences or make an impact on snowboarding. But now I can look back on this journey and say how incredibly lucky I have been. I ma...

A Weekend in Wyoming

When it came time to pick a location for a weekend getaway with my mom, Wyoming was a big contender with the abundance of parks, activities, rest, relaxation and breathtaking scenery. We started our journey to Wyoming on Thursday, taking our time with stops and staying overnight just a couple hours away from our final destination. On Friday's drive, we finally were rewarded with the views of the Grand Tetons as we...

The mountains we love...

For many of us, the mountains are our homes, our playgrounds and our lives. Unfortunately, the mountains we love can take us at any moment. For the second time in my life, the mountains have taken an incredible person who shared a passion for snowsports, the industry and everyone around them. I'm at a loss. It's heart breaking. It's unfortunate. Rest in Peace Joe Timlin [singlepic id=14886 w=500 h=375 float=center]...

Shred for Stevens

Last season, I was lost. I was about to move all my belongings into my truck and I needed to figure out where I would call home for the winter. I reached out to my friends at Stevens Pass and mentioned I was thinking of returning to the NW and wondered if Chris Rudolph the director of marketing would give me a pass if I moved back. He told me I was always welcome back and he'd take care of me. It was a huge relief to...

Facemask Friday: Phunkshun

When it comes to keeping your face warm on the mountain, facemasks do the job. On the deep powder days, they keep you from breathing in the snow. On the sunny days, they keep you from getting burnt. On windy days, they keep your face from going numb. Gone are the days that you have to wear a basic black mask and look like a bank robber, now plenty of companies offer bandanas, tubes, balaclava’s in an assortment of ...

SIA 2013 On-Snow Demo: Day 1

After a couple days of SIA, it was time to stop checking out the gear and try it on the slopes at Winter Park. I carpooled out for the day with the girls so we could check out gear and lap the mountain for the day. Despite some cold on-snow's in previous years, this year delivered with a fun day with warmer temps and good conditions. Stay tuned, all the boards below will be reviewed on Shayboarder.com over the next c...

SIA 2013: Day 3

After an evening at the Riders Poll, day 3 was a good day to sleep in and hit the tradeshow floor ready to check out more gear. Day 3 was also a day to get in last rounds, hang out with friends and run into more friends around the show. Looking back on the show, I definitely liked the more relaxing feel this year and being able to check out brands without being  rushed to see everything. To end the tradeshow, I ende...

SIA 2013: Day 2

The SIA Tradeshow continued on Friday with Day 2 of gear, parties and the industry gathering together in one place. One of the big questions of SIA is always what gear stands out from the crowd and it's tough because you end up seeing a lot of gear so it really has to stand out. There were a couple ringers on Friday that offered up a new look at snowboarding but overall here's a breakdown of some of the gear I saw. E...

SIA 2013: Day 1

The snow industry is back in Denver for the SIA Tradeshow! This is where the next year's gear is released and many of the buyers, media and industry flock to Denver to check it out while having a good time. My plan for the first day was to enjoy the show without being rushed like previous years, I didn't make as many appointments so I was able to have a more relaxed day while checking out gear and catching up with fr...
