Whistler 4/21/12

One of the best perks of being in Whistler for the Telus Festival is the demo days that go on each weekend. Anyone with a ID and credit card can check out the 2013 snowboards from a ton of brands at Whistler Mountain. I headed up despite all the crew riding Blackcomb and lapped Whistler for the day with my music and a couple boards underneath my feet to review. Since I was riding alone, I didn't take much for photos...

Blackcomb 4/20/12

After a couple days of much needed rest, I hit the highway north to Whistler. Whistler Blackcomb has had an amazing winter and it's still in full force! I always try to come up for the Telus Festival because it's always such a good time on the mountain, apres around town and at the parties every night. This year coming up to Whistler was more about a vacation than anything else. Each day started late, I enjoyed lo...

Tailgate Alaska + Flow World Freeride Championship Finals 4/11/12

After a day off to rest, it was time for Tailgate Alaska and Flow Snowboarding to host the Flow World Freeride Championship Finals. The final location was determined late the night before so even riders didn't know what they would be battling out on. The end result was heli and sled access to the backside of Python and the top 10 riders (two women and eight men) with one run to prove themselves as the ultimate winner...

Tailgate Alaska + Flow World Freeride Championship Qualifiers 4/9/12

The best freeriders took to the mountain yesterday for a chance to qualify for the Flow World Freeride Championship Qualifiers in a midst of steeps, rocks, drops and powder. Instead of riding the mountains around them, everyone gathered at Bro Bowl to watch the qualifiers go down with over 20 athletes taking two runs to try to garner a place in the finals. The crowd watched along a safe zone at the base of the mounta...

Tailgate Alaska: 907 Snowcat 4/8/12

The past couple days in Alaska have been "down days" when the weather comes in and you take a break from the mountains till the snow piles up and the sun comes out. It was a good break and time to figure out the next plan of attack. A couple of the Flow guys mentioned a day of snowcat and I was really happy with my first day with 907 before Tailgate Alaska began so I mentioned all of us heading up for the day with th...

Tailgate Alaska: Snowboarding Thompson Pass 4/3/12

Tailgate Alaska is well underway at Thompson Pass. It's been beautiful every day and today was a great day to get out on the mountain. Gilly was kind enough to bump us with his sled so we could get in our laps for the day. We headed up to below Bro Bowl to get in turns. The snow was mixed, it's been settling since there hasn't been new snow and there's an assortment of heavy snow to lighter snow depending on where...

Tailgate Alaska: Splitboarding Thompson Pass 4/2/12

It took a while for splitboarding to get kicked into full gear but now that I'm in Alaska it's finally happening. It's the cheapest way up the mountain and a great way to explore around the mountain. I ended up heading out with Tony, Peter and Jordan for a morning trek to the ice cave. It was a good warm-up for Alaska splitboarding. Myself on the skin up. A huge thanks to my grandma Sue for investing in my future, s...

Snowboarding with 907 Snowcat 3/30/12

It's been an incredible season of firsts. First Baker Banked Slalom, first heli, first backcountry turns in Alaska and now my first cat day of snowboarding. When I first arrived in Valdez, I met Nate from 907 snowcat and decided that a day of cat boarding would be a great way to start the Tailgate AK experience. I ended up joining in with a really great group of snowboarders from Alaska and Sweden. We had seven of us...

Thompson Pass 3/29/12

After spending the last couple days exploring Valdez, it was finally time to head up to Thompson Pass and get the full scale of Alaska mountains. I headed up bright and early with my gear to see what work needed to be done and ended up getting in a couple laps to warm-up for this adventure. During Tailgate BC, Nico was telling me about Alaska and how your whole season is basically practice for AK. That everything ...

Stevens Pass 3/16/12

It's been a stormy week for the Northwest. Lots of rain in town and snow in the mountains. Stevens Pass has been getting snowfall that kept delivering powder days on the mountain. I waited for Erik to start the day on the slopes we could carpool up together. Even by the time we arrived in the early afternoon, there was still powder in spots and turns to be made. The best part about Friday snowboarding was the sun ca...
