Snowboarding

Mammoth 4/14/11

It's been an interesting April week for weather in Mammoth.  Started out sunny and warm, turned into full blown winter and windy then back to sunny and windy.  I've been anxious to spend more time on the Endeavor color so hit the slopes for a lunch break and shred sesh over by Canyon Lodge today. This year at Mammoth has been amazing for snowfall.  Record breaking snowfall and tons of snow, about 52 feet of snowf...

Mammoth 4/12/11

After the weekend trip to Seattle I was ready to get back on snow for some lunchtime shred sessions.  The conditions are good, the sun's been out and there's no reason not to take a couple laps through Forest Trail at lunchtime.  I hit up the mountain with Dan who was out trying his snowboard skills (usually he skis). It was also a good day to test out the 2012 Endeavor Color Series for a couple laps and adjust ...

Holy Oly 2011

In the days leading up to Holy Oly, I was trying to explain why I would fly up to Seattle just for this contest but it comes down to the experience of it.  It's a northwest competition that's based around the fun and promotion of snowboarding without worrying about winning or losing, making money or being in the magazines.  It's seeing the up and comers riding next to the legends of snowboarding.  The northwest br...

June 4/3/11

Sunday Funday.  That was what I hoped for today as we gathered a crew to head to June Mountain and it definitely turned out to be the ideal Sunday Funday.  Packed up the truck full (literally) with people and snowboards/skis for the 25 minute trek down the highway to the less crowded but awesome June Mountain.  Showed up at 11am, parked 20 feet from the chairlift and hit the slopes for a warm day on the mountain. ...

Mammoth 4/1/11

One thing missing in California that's different from Colorado is the absence of Gaper Day.  It just doesn't exist here.  April 1st was like any other day on the mountain as far as I could tell.  I headed out for the daily shred break to make laps with the skier and since both of us lived in Colorado, it was kind of weird not seeing the usual crazyness that happens on Gaper Day.  Do I miss it?  Nah...snowboardin...

June 3/27/11

After the last couple days of powder with high winds I was ready for a mellow day like today and crossing the fingers for no winds.  We ended up heading up to Mammoth Main Lodge and after driving by chair #2 and seeing a monstrosity for a line, we grabbed our gear and headed to June Mountain for the day. [singlepic id=11225 w=400 h=509  float=] June was sunny, no lines and some winds.  I figured the snow would b...

Mammoth 3/26/11

Snowstorms can be great but it's easy to forget how powerful they can become.  Saturday was the prime example of a snowstorm getting worse throughout the day.  By the time I made it to the mountain, I knew that Roxy Chicken Jam was cancelled due to weather but I figured that I'd still take a couple laps instead of curling up inside all day. I had wanted to meet up with friends in town for RCJ, so I hit up the mo...

Mammoth 3/25/11

After the recent storms, the sun finally emerged in Mammoth but it was deceivingly not warm out.  Quite the opposite, the winds were blowing hard with the anticipation of the next storm system's arrival.  It was a good day to keep completely covered up on the slopes with no skin showing. I headed out early to get in my turns for the day.  The reports said 27-44 inches in the past 48 hours and it was definitely ...

Mammoth 3/24/11

The amount of snowfall in Mammoth this winter has been insanely good.  Town is buried in snowbanks, 4wd has been a necessity and powder days are a plenty!  Today was no exception, 32-50 inches in the past 24 hours on top of all the recent feet of snow we got. I borrowed the Jones Hovercraft for the day, finally getting the chance to ride it in some deep powder.  I've said it before but when I get to ride boards...

Mammoth 3/23/11

I feel spoiled.  It's March 23 and this season has been packed full of powder days, amazing powder days including today.  Sometimes it's a lunch break or early morning laps, sometimes the whole day of riding but everytime it's faceshots and deep snow.  Mammoth's been having insane amounts of snowfall this year, feet of snow at a time and on the mountain that makes for a great day. I headed down to the cafeteria...
