Snowboarding

Mammoth 3/8/11

The storm took off and the sun came back out in Mammoth for a tuesday shred session.  I headed out for a couple lunch laps with the skier to enjoy the soft snow and sunshine on the mountain.  It's hard to stay inside all day when the mountain is just outside the doors and it feels so good to lap the nearby lifts quickly. The skier and myself [singlepic id=11004 w=500 h=281 float=] We made a couple laps in So...

Mammoth 3/7/11

Over the weekend a storm rolled into Mammoth and delivered up a couple more inches of snow on the mountain.  The total is now 453 inches (almost 38 feet of snow) and it's good on the mountain.  So good that I'm happy snowboarding will continue into the spring. Ashley and I hit up the mountain with the gopro on a pole and flipcam in my pocket plus my camera for some good turns.  We headed over to chair #22 to se...

Mammoth Grand Prix: Halfpipe Finals

While the slopestyle finals were fun to watch yesterday, the pipe finals at the US Snowboarding Grand Prix were definitely the popular choice to watch and be a part of.  I started the day catching up with Cope from Neff, Tricia Byrnes and Stacey and John from Fuel TV before making my way up to the pipe to watch the action on the deck. While standing at the top I noticed the "I ride for Kevin" sticker.  Kevin wasn'...

Mammoth 3/1/11

I can't believe it's already March.  Despite the winter season coming to an end, I have to remind myself that living in Mammoth means a longer season like possibly till July and no complaints on that! Right now the Grand Prix is in Mammoth which means this week is practice runs until the qualifiers and finals in the pipe and slopestyle at the end of the week.  This morning I picked up my media pass so I could be...

Mammoth 2/26/11

It's been quite the week with my personal life but the latest storm delivered a good amount of fresh snow that was calling my name and today was the day.  I woke up early this morning to bluebird skies and hit up the mountain just in time to meet up with Daniel for our powder fix. It felt so good to be back in the powder.  The first runs I didn't even take the camera out except for a second to try to grab a shot o...

Mammoth 2/24/11

February has been a month of changes but really good changes in my personal life but it's also meant some time off from snowboarding.  After being sick for a week, it felt really good to get on the slopes and meet up with my favorite skier for lunch laps. The mountain was bitter cold with a storm coming in and super windy.  There were lot of snow tornadoes which are always fun to watch on chairlift rides.  I head...

Mammoth 2/15/11

It's always fun to take a ride break during the day and meet up with my friends who also work on the mountain.  That was today with going out with Adina for a couple laps and running into Dee Dee as well as we rode through Forest Trail.  It was the perfect day just lapping park and trying out a new board to review. Adina hitting the jumps [singlepic id=10880 w=500 h=281 float=] Trying the new emerge snowboards w...

Mammoth 2/13/11

It's been starting to get busier in town with President's holiday quickly approaching but even still, took my time this morning to get up to the mountain and start making laps with Pat and his crew.  I ended up running into Dee Dee so was able to get in laps with her and meet one of the blog readers, Jon throughout the day. Dee Dee rocking her creations [singlepic id=10799 w=300 h=533 float=] It was definitely a...

June 2/12/11

I haven't made my way to June Mountain as much as I'd like but I finally went back to check it out and see what it was like on a non-powder day.  As we pulled up, the parking lot was busy for June but still not busy at all.  I think June has the most amazing scenery surrounding the mountain, just breathtaking views and the mountain itself offers more mellow vibes with a fun park. I ended up taking out the Arbor Sw...

Mammoth 2/10/11

It's the second and last day of the WWSRA demo at Mammoth Mountain.  I made my trip to SIA include the tradeshow and demo so I could really get on more boards there but also knowing that I'd be able to spend a little bit of time in Mammoth checking out boards.  While shayboarder.com is a successful blog, it's still my hobby and I have a full time day job that I love more.  So today I went out on my ride break to c...
