Snowboarding

June 3/20/11

I'd been fighting off getting sick but figured a day off and a good night's sleep was enough for a powder day today.  It definitely made me feel good enough to commit to today at June.  The snow has been dumping nonstop in Mammoth and June, delivering more feet of snow.  By today it was up to four feet at June, perfect for early bird turns.  I headed to pick up Sarah in town for the month and we ended up with a f...

Mammoth 3/12/11

This has been the first Art Park at Mammoth Mountain, but it has exceeded my expectations as to what a park can be.  It's innovative, creative and challenging but also educational on the I AM SNOWBOARDING /JLA - Jeffy Anderson collaboration.  I've seen beginning to advanced riders and skiers go through art park enjoying the features so far this season. Today the skier and I made a couple South Park laps. I final...

Mammoth 3/11/11

Almost 6 months ago, I arrived in Mammoth Lakes to work for the mountain.  Its been a really great learning experience and most of all, I learn from the people I work with everyday.  Today a couple of us from marketing like Dan, myself, Katy and Steve headed out onto the slopes with Bill Byrne from BBPR who was in town.  Bill does great blog writeups on malakye.com about action sports PR. There's no doubt that th...

Mammoth 3/9/11

Another sunny day on the mountain without the winds howling, conditions were soft and parks were good for lapping on my lunch break.  I headed out with the skier to get some shots of him in Main Park on the rails and pipe, and get some laps on Forest Trail so I could hit the jump line. Today I mounted up the NS SL for some laps, that reviews coming up and just wanted to ride it again before I start typing up the ...

Mammoth 3/8/11

The storm took off and the sun came back out in Mammoth for a tuesday shred session.  I headed out for a couple lunch laps with the skier to enjoy the soft snow and sunshine on the mountain.  It's hard to stay inside all day when the mountain is just outside the doors and it feels so good to lap the nearby lifts quickly. The skier and myself [singlepic id=11004 w=500 h=281 float=] We made a couple laps in So...

Mammoth 3/7/11

Over the weekend a storm rolled into Mammoth and delivered up a couple more inches of snow on the mountain.  The total is now 453 inches (almost 38 feet of snow) and it's good on the mountain.  So good that I'm happy snowboarding will continue into the spring. Ashley and I hit up the mountain with the gopro on a pole and flipcam in my pocket plus my camera for some good turns.  We headed over to chair #22 to se...

Mammoth Grand Prix: Halfpipe Finals

While the slopestyle finals were fun to watch yesterday, the pipe finals at the US Snowboarding Grand Prix were definitely the popular choice to watch and be a part of.  I started the day catching up with Cope from Neff, Tricia Byrnes and Stacey and John from Fuel TV before making my way up to the pipe to watch the action on the deck. While standing at the top I noticed the "I ride for Kevin" sticker.  Kevin wasn'...

Mammoth 3/1/11

I can't believe it's already March.  Despite the winter season coming to an end, I have to remind myself that living in Mammoth means a longer season like possibly till July and no complaints on that! Right now the Grand Prix is in Mammoth which means this week is practice runs until the qualifiers and finals in the pipe and slopestyle at the end of the week.  This morning I picked up my media pass so I could be...

Mammoth 2/26/11

It's been quite the week with my personal life but the latest storm delivered a good amount of fresh snow that was calling my name and today was the day.  I woke up early this morning to bluebird skies and hit up the mountain just in time to meet up with Daniel for our powder fix. It felt so good to be back in the powder.  The first runs I didn't even take the camera out except for a second to try to grab a shot o...

Mammoth 2/24/11

February has been a month of changes but really good changes in my personal life but it's also meant some time off from snowboarding.  After being sick for a week, it felt really good to get on the slopes and meet up with my favorite skier for lunch laps. The mountain was bitter cold with a storm coming in and super windy.  There were lot of snow tornadoes which are always fun to watch on chairlift rides.  I head...
