Snowboarding

Keystone 11/30/12

Can't believe it's the last day of November but it's here and December is coming quickly. After a full day of work, I headed back out onto the mountain to meet up with Chris for some evening night laps. The fact that I can leave work from a long day and still make laps in the night cold frosty air...is perfection. Night riding is calming, it's so quiet, so dark and so much fun. Plus there's less people on the slop...

Until the snow comes, it means laps in the sunshine on the groomers. It's still good that the mountain is open, there's snow and snowboarding still makes me happy. Today was my day off, perfect for getting back into the easy park for a couple laps in between the big park and groomers. Thanks to the skier for getting shots of me. Myself on the first box [singlepic id=14707 w=500 h=375 float=] Right now the easy par...

Wednesday was a big day for the mountain. Tubing opened, the Ice Rink opened and A51 opened. It was the perfect day for heading up early to capture the new park design on the mountain. Whenever I head up early, it's generally a lap or two for the day while getting photos I can use for social media. [singlepic id=14700 w=500 h=500 float=] The big perk of early mornings is the corduroy right now. It's definitely tun ...

With Keystone night riding starting on Wednesday, it was the perfect opportunity for Keystone to give employees a Thanksgiving dinner and pre-night shred only for Keystone employees. Definitely one of the perks of the job is enjoying an almost empty mountain to yourself on those rare occasions. It's been a while since I've ridden nights but I absolutely love night riding. Typically on a Saturday I'm spending the day inside working and leaving the runs to our guests but today was a nice lunch break to head out for a couple laps with Phil. I work right near the gondola so laps are easy and fun during the day. Today I was trying out the Never Summer Pandora with my Burton Escapade bindings. It's fun to be on the women's equivalent of the evo since I've spent so much time on the evo an...

Loveland 11/11/12

When I used to live in Steamboat, a trip to Loveland was always worth the effort; they offered a ton of demos, early and late seasons and a mellow environment that was always a fun day on the mountain. Now that I live in Summit County and since today was my day off, I headed to Loveland to check out the on-snow demos from Never Summer, Capita, Arbor and Flux. Colorado Demo Days! The Burton Super Clinic continued on the slopes Friday for a day of discussions. I ended up spending the morning with Scott Anfang's group discussing Riglet Park and then Chris Hargrave's group for the freestyle features segment. Scott explaining the layout of the Riglet Park. [singlepic id=14686 w=333 h=500 float=center] For the second portion, I headed up to the beginner progression area with Kevin our Park Mana...

Usually I would have spent my Thursday in the office with maybe a lap or two on the mountain but this week was the Burton Super Clinic so I spent Thursday morning in discussions and the afternoon on the snow. It was good to see familiar faces like Rasmus from Chuckbuddies, Hargrave from Woodward and Scott and Nelson from Steamboat. The afternoon was perfect for laps and discussing the Burton programs. We headed up...

Early mornings on the mountain are worth it. Even if you go out to dinner the night before with the Transworld Snowboarding crew and don't make it home till midnight. It's still worth it. Even with groomers. I woke up early on Wednesday to head up to get some shots for social media. No complaints when the sun is shining, snow is on the ground and the groomers did an amazing corduroy grooming job on the mountain. Sho...

After a busy Opening Weekend, a relaxing Monday on the slopes was perfect. I headed up with the skier to make park laps with him and get back into the swing of winter. The A51 terrain park has about 25 features up right now and a whole line of box features for those seeking a more mellow terrain park line. Lower park shot [singlepic id=14675 w=500 h=333 float=] Starting this season out on the Arbor Swoon (which I ...
