A look inside the Vans Headquarters

Since 1966, Vans has stood for authenticity in lifestyle, music and action sports through their footwear.  Over the years, the brand has gone through different owners and is now owned by VF Corp.  Under the umbrella lies Pro-Tec which was founded in 1973 and is the original action sports protective gear brand.   The same interests that started the company have continued to grow with the name and the expansion of V...

A visit to Red Bull

Red Bull needs no introduction; the energy drink company makes the most popular energy drink in the world with 4 billion cans sold each year, their name and logo is recognizable and they are one of the biggest non-endemic companies to promote action sports.  Their promotion of a fun and active lifestyle is linked harmoniously to winter sports and action sports.  It's quite common to see Red Bull sponsor many of the...

Mammoth + Eddie Wall Ride 5/6/11

West Coast Invitational has finally arrived in Mammoth.  This weekend has everything from concerts and parties to pros and jibs.  Today started out with the Eddie Wall Ride contest right out in front of Main Lodge.  It's the second year of the wall ride contest and Eddie Wall was on hand to play around on the features but also judge a winner.  Scott Vine took home the win for the day. The scene at Main Lodge was...

Mammoth Snowmobile Adventures

I've only gone snowmobiling a handful of times but every time it's so much fun that I really wish I had a snowmobile.  At the base of Mammoth Mountain, we have Snowmobile Adventures that operates during the winter so today I got to head out with the Mammoth Marketing team for the afternoon on sleds. This was really my first chance to venture out beyond the mountain at Mammoth and see what lies beyond the resort. ...

Holy Oly 2011

In the days leading up to Holy Oly, I was trying to explain why I would fly up to Seattle just for this contest but it comes down to the experience of it.  It's a northwest competition that's based around the fun and promotion of snowboarding without worrying about winning or losing, making money or being in the magazines.  It's seeing the up and comers riding next to the legends of snowboarding.  The northwest br...

Mammoth Grand Prix: Halfpipe Finals

While the slopestyle finals were fun to watch yesterday, the pipe finals at the US Snowboarding Grand Prix were definitely the popular choice to watch and be a part of.  I started the day catching up with Cope from Neff, Tricia Byrnes and Stacey and John from Fuel TV before making my way up to the pipe to watch the action on the deck. While standing at the top I noticed the "I ride for Kevin" sticker.  Kevin wasn'...

Networking in the Snowboard Industry

In my constantly moving chatbox, Pierce asked "how do you meet all these people I would love to be as involved in the snowboard community as you are." The snowboard industry is small, seriously smaller than you can imagine. If you know one person, chances are through them you know, or can potentially know, a lot more people. It just takes an introduction or communication to establish a relationship. When I did Ind...

Rome's Any Means

Last night was the Rome Any Means premiere here in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. It was definitely worth checking out. The night started with the F.O.D.T. Cold World film first and definitely had the urban rails and gansta riders in it. It was really cool to see though and some great footage, great rail riding as well. It was a little too gold chain bling for me though. But I do love to see MFM ride in any film. ...

Warren Miller's Playground

You'll notice that around this time I try my best to make it to as many snowboard premieres as possible. Sometimes it means seeing both snowboard and skiing films like TGR and Warren Miller. Last night I gladly accepted the invitation to go watch the new Warren Miller film "Playground" rather than watch the Rockies in the World Series. Some choices are tough...but I can watch sports highlights another time. I r...

TGR's Lost and Found

Last night at the Steamboat Film Festival was the premiere of Teton Gravity Research's Lost and Found. It was awesome since a great amount of riders and skiers came to view it. TGR put on the most pumped up, exceptional ski/snowboard movie. The soundtrack was awesome, a great variety of music styles and really I was moving to the music the entire premiere which is awesome when a film gets you pumped up like tha...
