Lake Louise Resort 3/19/15

After exploring Lake Louise and spending the evening in Banff, I opted to ride Lake Louise Resort before I started my journey back home. By the time I reached the parking lot, the snow was falling and I was stoked to get on the mountain. I had purchased the mountain collective pass at SIA so this was a great chance to ride a new mountain and use a day on my pass. The snow conditions were hardpacked after having be...

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort 3/18/15

One of the best rewards of traveling to new places is the feeling you get when you experience them for the first time. Arriving in Golden wasn't much but arriving at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort was incredible. It was a good thing I was on the gondola alone because I couldn't help but smile and laugh at what I was seeing surround me. This wasn't just a ski resort, this was a ski resort in the Canadian Rockies. It ma...

Road Trippin: Canadian Rockies

With the lack of snow and mountain closures in Washington, it made perfect sense that I would hop in the car and create my own mountain adventure. I had been wanting to visit more of the Canadian Rockies after visiting Revelstoke during Tailgate BC a couple years back so this made perfect sense that I would start my trip with Revelstoke, check out Kicking Horse and end my journey at Lake Louise before heading home to...

Revelstoke Mountain Resort 3/17/15

All it took was seven hours along a winding highway, over mountain passes and through the woods to get to Revelstoke Mountain Resort from Seattle. It was well worth the drive, even though it wasn't having the best of snow seasons. This was my second time to Revelstoke. I had been here for Tailgate BC and made a point that I would return. All it took was a free ticket from TGR's Ablaze film premiere to do the trick. T...

8am-8pm in Anchorage, AK

What can you do with a 12 hour visit to Anchorage? It turns out a lot! It all started with a three hour flight on Alaska Airlines from Seattle to Anchorage, Alaska arriving just after 8am. My travel companion was the adventurous Nikki who braved the cold temps of Alaska with me. Departing in the dark and seeing the sunrise at 35,000 feet is always worth the journey. I captured the morning glow with a hyperlapse on...

Whistler Bike Park: Top of the World

It's amazing to stand on the top of a trail, know your line and just go for it. Snowboarding or mountain biking - those moments you remember! My last visit to Whistler was for one trail, to conquer the Top of the World. I knew that I wanted to ride the trail when it opened a couple years ago. Not only is it a black trail but the amount of vertical makes for one sick day of riding. I loaded up the bike and headed...

Exploring Olympic National Park

It's sad to say but I haven't really explored Olympic National Park as much as I'd like - or at all. So when I had some downtime this weekend, I figured I would head to Ocean Shores for the weekend and spend some quality time exploring the Quinault region of Olympic National Park. I ventured into the park in the early afternoon, first driving around the North Shore of Lake Quinault which was breathtaking and felt lik...

A day in Juneau

It's pretty extraordinary to explore amazing locations thanks to my job at Alaska Airlines. I've always loved traveling and Alaska has always held a close place to my heart as Seattle's hometown airline. For the first trip to Alaska, Juneau was a great choice. It is just a little over a 2 hour flight from Seattle. Juneau is Alaska's capital and home to Alaskan Brewery (one of my favorite breweries) plus it has the ou...

Whistler Bike Park Opening Weekend 2014

One of the perks of being back in the Northwest is being in close proximity to the Whistler Bike Park. Just a five hour drive means I can head up to Canada for the weekend and ride an amazing bike park with friends. I was pretty excited to know that I would be back in the Northwest just in time for the Whistler Bike Park opening day on May 16. Friday was the big opening day so I headed up with my friend Carrie to ...

Six years of Shayboarder

Six years ago I sat in front of my computer writing my introduction to the World of Snowboarding on shayboarder.com. It began with a blog post, zero views and no expectations on where it would go or lead me. I never expected that shayboarder.com would change my life, lead me to amazing experiences or make an impact on snowboarding. But now I can look back on this journey and say how incredibly lucky I have been. I ma...
