Union Bindings 2010-2011

Union has begun it’s sixth year of bringing bindings focused around rider driven performance, no bells & whistles just stellar looks that ride solid.  For 2010-2011, they have listened to riders wanting new toe straps with two new toe straps designed to grip the boot better.  The Flite, DLX and women’s cadet features the toe strap with the gap  and the Force MC, Force SL, Asadachi feature a new toe strap with a softer gripping area in the center.

If you happened to stop by the on-snow at Winter Park, they were the only binding I saw on the majority of boards being tested and when you stopped by the booth there were no Union bindings to be found.  I was lucky to ride two of the bindings because there were out being ridden most of the time.

I used to ride Flow bindings a majority of the time, until you recommended the forces, now I have two pairs of forces and a pair of contacts. I really do love the feel and response of the Union bindings, not to mention the build quality is solid.

Nice Shay… Any good pics of the new toe strap(s)? I liked my forces from this year but the toe strap just didn’t cut it for me and my boots… I would def try out a new pair if they changed it in the right direction! Thx!

Keep up the good work Shay! Have you heard if there will be another superpro binding offered next year? And @Doug, the 390’s will have a canted footbed for next year.

can’t wait to snap that contact pro highback in half

The pro has a new different highback and toe strap. Not sure about the ankle but I’m sure its an upgrade too. Also the pad underneath that the binding rests on has dual density. Different cushion for different parts of the binding.
Good luck on snapping the highback Mouse. That’s Gigi’s binder and I’m sure he doesn’t ride crap, or that Union would even put out something like that.

What changes have they made to the Force strap? The gel in the center look very different.

I love the underfoot and riding feeling of my Unions from 2(?) years ago, they are super fun to ride, but I’ve come to the decision that I’m not going to get another pair, simply because I’ve had countless small problems with the bindings. Things that don’t really affect the ride, but are simply annoying- all the springs in my ratchets are broke, I only have one of the original ladders, I’ve had a few screws strip IN the binding, so now there are certain parts that won’t adjust, and the heelcups always slide out to the furthest option.

Like I said, they are great, fun, strong bindings to ride, but I don’t have the patience of some people, so I think I’m gonna pick up a pair of 390s next.

Those bindings look amazing. I’ve been running Forces for the past 3 years. think I’ll check out those Gigi bindings!

FYI 390’s can’t hold a candle to any of these.

    February 8, 2010 at 2:07 pm

Oh the heelcup is cored out to reduce weight too.
And the way the heelcup is made for the MC is really cool. Molded more like plastic is but its metal. I can’t remember the specifics since I only had a few hours with the catalog but its Pretty amazing stuff that them Union boys come up with.

@ Eli, to be honest if you weren’t happy with the little things not working then 390s are not the answer. I had a pair of those early in the season and most of the things you’ve mentioned as falling apart happened. The biggest problem was the toe strap which did not hold the boot and the spring on it was toast within a month.

Anyway I am on the forces now and I think I’ve finally found THE bindings of a lifetime.

ha wow @ the shaun white guy. burtons suck testes. riding a burton is just like riding a big billboard for an overrated gay-ass company that doenst care about how they make their boards. just copies of better originals. and btw shaun white is only good in pipe.

on the other hand- dream setup
    lib tech dark series
    union force mc

so sick. all mountain freestyle machine baby!

union mc’s are the only bindings i’ll rock. mc’s are light as air, and rock solid. with over 100 days of bombing runs at speeds of around 60 mph on groomers, and occasionally stomping 5-10 feet of air in the park, my mc’s are still rock solid. not once have they come loose, or done something unexpected, so i can ride any way i want and be confident that my board will always be attached to my feet.

countdown…37days…still have to figure out what I really want 🙂 Contact Pro,Asadachi, one of the forces or the f***light Flite:D It’s such a tough decission…any one an advice? Have a Capita Stairmaster(09/10) and a Atomic Alibi Renu(10/11) and the Union Forces SL(09/10) and guess I want a more playful and forgiving binding for the Stairmaster so what do u think? would the Flite would be a good choice or should I go wth the Forces? Still don’t know nothin about the Asadachi Series…^^ And what about the FMC?
Rode the Stairmaster with the FSL (for me quite a good match) but wanna try it with a softer bindin too…so give me some advices…you re welcome to write down yor thoughts 😉

cheers and greetz from germany 😉

    Hey Pete.

I think you would be happy with the flights as a more fun oriented binder. Thats what Dustin Craven was rockin on his stairmaster.

Asadachi is basically a downgraded SL from what I can tell. Same highback, straps, and flex pattern just no CNC machined base…Super sick print though…gotta love woodgrain

  • Pete
    August 1, 2010 at 6:42 am

yeah the wood is just unbelievable…they should make every binding in this design 😀 Would perfectly fit on the Alibi^^

well yeah thx…guess it ll be really the Flites^^
…guess I’m stuck to Union and Capita for the rest of my life 😀 guess it’s the same with Deeluxe

countdown: 30days! I was in our Boardershop here in town and talked about 2 hours with the owner just about the new season and the Capita Boards and Union bindings…:D Can’t wait!!!

Sounds like you guys now what you’re talking about, so Im going to ask another question….what boot would you recommend for my riding style? I don’t care about brand as long as it has the BOA system! I was looking at the Vans line-up, and thought the Encore, Fargo, or the Cirro.
    Thanks again for the help!

BOA? Hmmm the new dc boots look sick. Can’t think of the name of them though. Look up Shay’s dc line review on here. They are black and red. Try some of the other quick lacking systems too.

haha the DK Crown Royals…secret stuff I guess 😀 😉 just wait, the timme will come 😀

boots: I could recommend my Deeluxe Del Mar(09-10)…for me a good mix of stability and flex…I like em=) they maybe need 2-3 days on snow but after that…wohohoooooooo! 😀

  • Shay
    September 6, 2010 at 8:16 pm

Jrosco, boots are the one thing you have to go totally with all your preferences and by fit. No one can tell you what boots to get, flex is all preference and you wanna make sure fit is there. Definitely try on the vans boots, each of the models and see if the fit works and the flex is comfortable. I prefer a stiffer boot but I know plenty of riders who like softer boots.

Thanks for the responses, I actually ended up going with last years DC Judge. These are the boots I was looking at last year, and happen to find a pair cheap here at a local sales event last weekend.

What kind of bindings are contact pro’s actually, cuz i dont know if i want the forces or pro’s ?

  • lee
    September 12, 2010 at 6:04 pm

They are based off the contact chassis. Differences are – highback of course, coded out heelcup, different straps, but the biggest differences are underneath in the padding. Uses 3 different stiffnesses instead of one. Also the accelerator has the same thing.

Hey. I want freestyle union bindings so badly! I am not sure which ones to go for in the womens collection?! heeeellllp me… I know the contact are super for the freestyle guy but what about us ladies? I just picked up a va va voom 2011

  • lee
    September 24, 2010 at 3:41 pm

If you’re Stoked on the contact go for the Milan. It’s the women’s version. Shorter woman specific highback ,narrower heelcup ,helps you have a binding that fits a woman’s foot better. Binding comes in white or black and is themed like a high end hand bag. I posted a link in an earlier reply that takes you to a bunch of videos that explain the Union line. Hit that up and check em out. It’s at the bottom a bit and explains the women’s line in one video.

  • Shay
    September 25, 2010 at 12:25 pm

Jenni, Like Lee said the milans are a solid choice for you this winter and the women’s contact.
