Hi Lo, yep still checking in! Awesome on the NW riding, love it there. If you think the Skate Banana is stiff, the eminence will be a lot stiffer. Ollie Pop is more freestyle playful but you’ll lose stability so really depends. I’d see if you could demo it to know for sure.

I found super helpful, I live in the great NW of Washington, been snowboarding 10 years I’m 22 and trying to decide between the Ollie Pop Japan, and Eminence! I love pow, groomers, park and just started getting into jumps last year-I’m trying to progress I tried out the libtech skate banana and I loved the playfulness of that but still felt stiff too me, probably because it’s usually a mens board haha. I saw a few comments that the Ollie pop was too bouncy and there are tons of mogals so if it shoots I may want to go for Eminence? Figured I’d ask your advice 🙂 I was pretty loyal to my first board, but know I need the technology to step it up haha Thanks!

I am in the uk and board here mostly as I now have kids- we used to ski in the usa where I bought a burton freedom 51 (many years ago!) which I have always struggled a bit with. This holiday , last week at chamonix, I hired a roxy banana silhouette (149)and what a revelation! So soft and easy , though I gained my best ever bruise trusting it off a chairlift on a very icy slope. It is maybe a tad soft but I loved the feel of it, the ease of turning and grip and wondered if you could suggest a couple of boards suitable? I follow my OH on blacks and we go off piste a bit and do some odd jumps here and there. I did find the roxy a little chattery at speed on the groomers but it still felt more forgiving than my old board. Victoria Jalousie I aint!I am 5’6 and weigh 150 (ouch!) and I am 49 years old. Just started doing jumps onto the airbag which I LOVE! If the landings were as soft I would do more! Thanks for your advice!

Ollie Pop is a more forgiving board, great progression board and eminence will be a bit more aggressive, more all mountain freestyle. Both sizes are fine for your weight and height.

Thu, 21 Apr 2011 21:35:21 +0000http://www.shayboarder.com/?p=11634#comment-103080Hello from New Zealand!
First of all, thanks for all the great reviews, Shay!
I’ve started snowboarding a few months back at a local indoor snow dome and taken a few beginner’s lessons in preparation for our snow season in June. I’m now focusing on turns but have a hard time linking them with the hard-flat rental boards. I’ve therefore decided to get my own gear so I can learn and progress in.
I’m 5’1 and weigh about 95lbs – I’m tossing between the Roxy Eminence 143 and Roxy Ollie Pop 141. I’m not sure about my riding style yet, but can foresee doing mostly mountain riding and maybe trying little rail tricks at some point (they have park rails set up in the indoor snow dome).
I really like the Eminence…and it’s graphics (though maybe a lame reason) – but is it too long for my height and weight? Or too advanced as a learning board for beginner. Thing is, I didn’t want to get a dedicated beginner board that I will outgrow quickly.
Thanks Shay!

Debbie, all the boards you mention are all mountain freestyle decks so definitely will handle mountain to park riding. For the ice, MTX has good edgehold on icy conditions and NS/Burton have their own designs but they aren’t as grippy as MTX.

Tue, 12 Apr 2011 02:17:11 +0000http://www.shayboarder.com/?p=11634#comment-101365Hi, Can you please recommend the best board to buy… I’m deciding between the: Burton Feelgood Flying V / Roxy Eminence & Never Summer Infinity? Or another board you think is better?
I’m 5’2, 110lb, size 6 shoe. I spend most of my time on the mountain = intermediate. I do like doing small stuff in the parks = beginner (would like to get better if I’m brave enough). I mostly board in Australia & NZ where there’s more ice & manmade snow (sometimes powder). I prefer control over speed. I’d like a forgiving ride with good suspension & a board that doesn’t catch edges. I’d love to have confidence on my board so I can try more things. Plus a board I won’t grow out of for a while.
Thanks x

You can adjust the baseplate to be longer so if you aren’t doing that, that should help. With 26.5 (size 8.5’s) you shouldn’t need men’s bindings unless you prefer to have them. The scribe L’s/escapade L’s will fit your boot width but you’d need to adjust the ramps to pull out
