Now that the 09-10 season has come to an end (with the exception of this summer at Mt Hood) I figured it was finally time to bring back the best of 09-10. The best of list is my way of commending boards I enjoyed riding this year, it’s not a board test but just a two thumbs up kind of list. For the 2009-2010 season I ended up riding over 70 snowboards, 64 of which were made into reviews. Of those 64 snowboards, 15 were women’s boards and 49 were men’s boards. I ended up riding 15 different bindings, 9 of which were women’s and 6 were men’s bindings. The majority of the gear reviewed was done during demo days around Colorado. These boards came from the 2009-2010 snowboard reviews section on my blog which goes more in-depth on each review. [singlepic id=9028 w=300 h=300 float=] I originally published the best of 09-10 in November but wanted to re-touch on this list, some stayed the same but there were some changes to the list. All-around Board Men’s: The Indoor Survival still remains the do-it all board for 09-10 for handling everywhere on the mountain. Women’s: The Never Summer Lotus-R is […]

Location: Loveland, Colorado Snow Conditions: Bluebird sunny skies and hardpacked groomed runs. Setup: I rode the K2 Auto Agogo’s on the K2 Slayblade with my Bonfire Geo boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: Little longer than average, to make sure the auto strap was adjusted properly. Props to K2 reps for making sure it is. Fit: No problems with the fit to my bonfire boots, in fact I thought the toe strap fit the best with my boots above all the other bindings for the demo’s and even better than in my Vans boots. The width was fine for boot and highback fit properly with my boot height as well. First Impression: It’s like putting your feet in a pillow while snowboarding except the pillow makes the ride better down the mountain. Appearance: I’ve noticed that the agogo’s tend to be the higher upscale look of women’s bindings, last year was pearls and this year was animal print…it’s definitely the cougar in training binding look. Despite the animal print, I actually like the purple/black combo they put together and if there’s one binding to make you pounce, it’s this one. Comfort: The agogo’s are all comfort from […]

Location: Loveland, Colorado Snow Conditions: Bluebird sunny skies and hardpacked groomed runs. Setup: I rode the Ride Sigma Movements on the Ride Machete with my Bonfire Geo boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: Average set up time Fit: I had no problem adjusting the binding to my boot, the fit was fine for width and the straps required some adjustment but got them dialed before riding. First Impression: I really love Ride’s convertible grip toe straps and sigma movements are bindings I’ve owned in the past so this combo is heaven. Appearance: The sigma movement binding this year is a collaboration between Ride + Matix which I’m completely happy with the appearance. It takes badass chick and puts it into a binding with black, purple and some flare to it. The colors are simple and nothing too noticeable for the mountain. Comfort: Always comfortable whenever I strap into these bindings, good padding underfoot that absorbs rougher terrain and you don’t feel vibrations when riding. The ankle strap is precurved to your boot and once centered, feels good without any pressure points. Highback has some padding and the shape fits well with women’s boots so you don’t get […]

Location: Loveland, Colorado Snow Conditions: Bluebird sunny skies and hardpacked groomed runs. Setup: I rode the Union Contacts on the Rome Postermania with my Bonfire Geo boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: I set it up so it was normal time since I’m familiar with the Contacts. Fit: I just had to make sure the straps were adjusted to my boots properly before taking them out on the snow. When I ride union bindings, I rock the M/L size of bindings which fit the width of my size 8 boots and they aren’t too tall of a highback for my boots. First Impression: The softness and lightness of these bindings is always fun on the groomer days and playing around. Appearance: They remind me of those orange and white ice cream cups in the appearance, I miss the solid orange but it’s fun to have the white/orange color combination. Comfort: The straps were comfortable to my boots and didn’t offer any pressure points or weird spots when riding. The baseplate is padded so absorbs some vibrations when riding and makes for a super comfortable ride. Functionality: Contacts are just like any other binding except they offer less […]

Location: Loveland, Colorado Snow Conditions: Bluebird sunny skies and hardpacked groomed runs. Setup: I rode the Forum Shakas on the Youngblood & Destroyer with my Bonfire Geo boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: It was decent amount of time, not quick but not super long to get it dialed up for me. Fit: I was worried about the highback being an issue with my size 8 boots and the height being too much but once I got on snow I didn’t feel it in the back of my leg so it was not as tall as I thought it would be to impact me. The width was fine for my boots. Overall fit was decent on my boots. First Impression: Visually I thought they looked like a bastardized frankenbinder. But once I rode it, it felt a lot better than it looked. Appearance: The whole rasta look is something I don’t get or like, honestly it’s probably one of the ugliest bindings I’ve ridden this year. I’d definitely prefer the black model of the binding without the ugliness.
Location: Loveland, Colorado Snow Conditions: Bluebird sunny skies and hardpacked groomed runs. Setup: I rode the Burton Lexa EST on the Burton Custom with my Bonfire Geo boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: Average time with the EST system, didn’t have to wait long and the staff had no problem setting it up. Fit: The Lexas fit my boot just fine, at first I thought that toe strap wasn’t centered but that’s the design of it. First Impression: I can always rely on the lexa’s as the everything binding, good midway point for women riders. Appearance: The lexa’s are never really over the top in the design, simple and elegant with a friendly girly spark to it. I rode the white coral bindings and the color was just enough for me. Comfort: The lexa’s have been a comfortable binding each time I ride them. The ankle strap has really good padding and cushioning and the toe strap grips the boot just right when riding. I’ve never had a pressure point with the lexas. Functionality: The lexa EST’s work solely with the ICS snowboards allowing for unlimited stance options but since I rock +15, -15 that doesn’t matter […]

Location: Loveland & Copper, Colorado Snow Conditions: Mixture of Conditions. Setup: I rode the Union Forces (size M/L) with the Capita Ultrafear FK and my Bonfire Geo Boots Time to set up the binding: Average Fit: My Bonfire Geo’s fit snugly into the heelcup and conform fine to the highback. I have a small bit of extra width between the bindings but it’s only with my Bonfire Geo boots (Vans boots fit fine in them). First Impression: I liked these bindings last year so when it came time to pick this years bindings, I upgraded from the Forces to the Force SL’s and no regrets on my decision. I got a lighter, stiffer, more responsive binding but I didn’t lose the amazing feeling of the Forces with the upgrade. Appearance: They are the white/red Force SL’s which someone told me reminded them of baseball and I like them, simple design and colors. Comfort: The Force SL’s continue with the padding that the regular Forces offer, padding on the highback and baseplate to absorb rougher terrain when you hit it and a sturdy padded ankle strap that doesn’t give me any pressure points when strapped in. This review will be updated throughout the season as I demo and test more 09/10 bindings. Time to set up the binding: Longer than average to make sure the bindings were adjusted to my boot and set up properly. With Flows you really need to dial them in or the ride won’t be the same. First Impression: The Special Edition NXT-ATSE’s might take over the regular edition. Appearance: There’s a lot going on with the NXT-ATSE’s in terms of colors and design. But I don’t think it looks bad, I liked the crazy print and design it has going with the mix of words across the binding. The chrome ratchets are pretty sweet as well and shine in the sunlight. Fit: Some space in the width of the bindings and the width of my boots that I noticed, heel was secure in the highback and straps were adjusted to fit the boots. First Impression: Super padded and comfortable with less response Appearance: They definitely stand out with the gold color that I was rocking. Definitely with the bulky straps you notice the lettering even more with the right binding saying TECH and the left binding saying NINE. I like the white colorway that the binding is offered in more than the gold. Comfort: These bindings are all comfort, a lot of padding in the straps to the baseplate.
