Location: Mammoth, California Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy groomers. Setup: I rode the Burton Cobrashark bindings on the Burton Sherlock with my Vans Veil Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: The cobrasharks were the first binding of the day and quick to get set up. I almost didn’t go with them but was open to trying something new and glad I did. Fit: I got into the medium cobrashark bindings which fit my vans size 8’s fine. The binding to boot width was fine and comfortable with no extra gaps. The straps were adjusted to fit my boots and were fine with my boots. First Impression: A binding with the name cobrashark wins me over every time. Appearance: I think these are my favorite binding design from Burton with the appearance and graphics. The cobrasharks feature artwork from Jay Howell. It’s kind of eclectic with the red lumberjack pattern on the straps and then the highback and writing over the bindings but somehow the mesh of it all works for me. Comfort: Just like the men’s malavita bindings, a very cushy ankle strap with comfortable support on my boot. Good padding on the baseplate and highback that […]

Location: Mammoth, California Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy groomers. Setup: I rode the Burton Cartel bindings on the Burton Joystick with my Vans Veil Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: About average time to set it up but more so making sure the men’s binding would fit my female boot size. Fit: I got into the size small cartels which worked fine with my bindings. The binding fit to my boots felt fine, the highback height wasn’t more than my boot height and the straps I had to adjust but once I did, they were snug on my boots. First Impression: The cartels are popular for a reason, they are responsive but yet comfortable. Appearance: The cartels I rode in my opinion are pretty ugly. I just don’t like the drab gray colors and I think the other colorways look a lot better than the one I rode. Comfort: Burton definitely has comfort on lockdown when it comes to the high end bindings I’ve ridden, good padding in the baseplate on the cartel that helps absorb rougher riding and landings. The straps are super comfortable to the boot and just mold well. Functionality: The cartels have the […]

Location: Mammoth, California Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy groomers. Setup: I rode the Burton Scribe bindings on the Burton Blender with my Vans Veil Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: These were the last bindings of the day and quick to get set up and adjusted to my boot. It was probably because the tent was empty at the time. Unfortunately they were a little too quick to get setup. I told him 22 for stance width and ended up with 24…which I noticed rightaway when both feet were in the binding. I took one run and went down to adjust them to 22. Fit: I made sure to get on the Burton’s large bindings since they fit my Vans boots the best. No extra gap in the binding width, good fit in the heelcup to highback and the straps were adjusted to my boots perfectly. First Impression: The scribes just make sense, wider strap where your weight and pressure is while riding. Like the men’s malavita’s but designed for women. Appearance: The scribes I tried out were in the black colorway which is mostly black with some small white sections on the bindings. It’s one classy […]

Location: Mammoth, California Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy groomers. Setup: I rode the Burton Malavita bindings on the Burton Nug with my Vans Veil Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: It took longer than usual to get them set up which was weird since they should be quick but it was a busy demo day. But since it did take longer, they were adjusted properly. Fit: These were a medium and worked fine with my boots. No extra gaps in the width of the bindings and the straps were comfortable, definitely seemed bigger than the women’s versions but meant for bigger boots too. First Impression: A favorite choice from Burton with the wider ankle strap and amazing comfort on the mountain. Appearance: The malavita’s I rode featured the feats of strength design on them which I thought was hilarious. It kept the basic black/white colorway but with some funny designs on the binding. Mine had a girl in a swimsuit on the ankle strap and that’s all I remember. Definitely original to see that mix of color choice and graphic printed design. Comfort: Just like the women’s scribes, the malavita’s offered up a very cushy ankle strap […]

Location: Mammoth, California Snow Conditions: Mixture of hardpacked to soft packed groomers. Setup: I rode the Flux RK30 bindings on the DC PBJ with my Vans Veil Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: It was average time to set them up, actually really a bit quicker than usual. I didn’t have to take out a tool to adjust the straps to my boots using the tool-free adjustments on the toe and ankle strap. Fit: I took a chance on the sizing, guessing the men’s medium would fit my size 8 women’s boots but they did. No gaps in the width of the binding and overall felt comfortable with the sizing. It was easy to adjust the straps to fit my boots and be centered on my boots. First Impression: A good mix of response and comfort between them. Appearance: The Flux’s stood out from the pack of demo bindings at P3 shop in town and called my name with the bright blue color, not only that but they have bright neon green on them too. I like the fun bright colors and the Rk30’s definitely had the color combo going on.
Winter is just around the corner which means all the 10-11 gear will be hitting the slopes soon. Each year before the season begins, I get to test and try out different gear to review. Eventually this list will be expanded on but here’s the collection of bindings that I was able to try out for 2010-2011 so far. This review will be updated throughout the season as I demo and test more 10/11 bindings. Each review is judged by the same standard and for the majority of reviews I used my own boots (some exceptions). [singlepic id=8719 w=300 h=400 float=] If you have a specific binding you would like to be reviewed please request it in the comment section. About me as a snowboarder: I’m coming up on my 17th season snowboarding. I am majority freerider (I ride trees, powder, steeps, groomers, natural terrain) and I ride halfpipe. I’m progressing my park experience with boxes/rails. I am 5’6″ and typically ride a 156cm for my all mountain board, my powder board is a 161cm and my park board is a 151cm. I am a regular rider with a 22 inch width, +15, -15 stance angles.
Location: Breckenridge, Colorado Snow Conditions: Mixture of hardpacked to slushy groomers. Setup: I rode the Technine Mass Appeal bindings on the Technine Team Dennison with my Vans Veil Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: It was average time to set up the bindings, I actually rode these bindings a couple laps with the highbacks and then a couple laps without the highbacks to do the no-back test on them. Fit: You take some chances with men’s bindings of the fit being a bit too large than you need for a women’s size 8 boot and this was the example of the mass appeal’s being on the larger size than I needed. The width of the binding made for gaps between my boots, the straps were too large and the toe strap tightened as much as possible but definitely overall too large for me. However I still rode them with and felt really comfortable on them even without the fit being exactly what I would have liked. First Impression: Super comfortable and feels like I’ve got super padded bulky boxing gloves around my boots. Appearance: For the most part the mass appeals were black but had yellow features […]

Setup: I rode the Burton Lexa bindings with a variety of Burton snowboards (Lipstick, Feelgood, Whammy Bar) with my Vans Veil Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: Average time with the EST system and disc system. I rode both types of Lexa’s and neither were an issue for setting up/ease of use. Fit: The fit on the lexa’s is always fine, no gaps in the width of the binding and easy to adjust the toe and ankle strap to fit my boot. First Impression: The lexa’s are that solid binding I go to for demo days, they do the job and no matter what board I ride…they work for them. Appearance: The 10-11 Lexa line is simple in the design and colors but in good style. There are bright option colors but I ended up riding the white and black choices which suit my style more. Comfort: Always a super comfortable binding with the amount of padding and cushioning around your boot from the baseplate to the highback to the straps. Functionality: The lexa’s are a very functional women’s binding, the EST system is easy […]

Setup: I rode the Union Force bindings with the Never Summer Evo and Smokin PYT with my Vans Veil Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: Average time for the Forces. I grabbed them from Union and set them up on the Evo and PYT myself. First Impression: These are one of the brightest bindings I have seen at the demos, so easy to spot on the mountain and a very popular choice at the demos. Fit: I rode the women’s mediums which fits womens 6-8 boots, I probably would have preferred the women’s large binding size so that the baseplate length would have fit my boot length better. The straps fit my boots just fine, easy to adjust into place and my boot was snug with the highback. First Impression: These are definitely more my style than previous bindings I’ve rode from Technine, still comfortable but enough response for the mountain. Appearance: I rode the Elements in the purple color choice which is my favorite probably (purple has grown on me this year). The bindings overall appearance is pretty subtle compared to the rest of the women’s line, the ankle strap has the Technine all over it but done in good taste.
