Intended Purpose: The Mercenary is Arnette’s ultimate goggle for style and performance technology to meet the demands on the mountain. Location: I wore the goggle at Mammoth and June in California and Park City in Utah. Conditions: Mix of sunny bluebird days to overcast cloudy days on the mountain. Color: I received the Mercenary goggles in a couple color options but ended up sticking with the midnight black frame choice for a simple black color don’t mess with me look. Lens: The Mercenary goggles I received came with the shadow chrome lens choice. Good choice of lens for somewhat cloudy/sunny days on the mountain, the lens block out some sunlight and help with seeing snow conditions. On really shady runs, I had some issues with seeing the varying snow. Fit: This is my first time trying the Arnette Mercenary goggles and they face foam helps keep it snug against my face and nose. There is some space at the very top of the goggle where air can get through but it’s minimal and I’ve only noticed it one time during a super windy day. Helmet Compatibility: The goggles align very good with my Smith helmet so there’s no gap and […]

Intended Purpose: The sleek smaller frame of the Spy Bias meets the fashion mavens at Les Ettes for a fun signature model. The Spy + Les Ettes Bias is packed full of Spy’s features like Carl Zeiss vision and Scoop ventilation system with fresh matte accents, a signature multi-colored polka dot strap and “you stink” on the back clip. Location: I wore the goggle at Heavenly, Mammoth and June in California. Conditions: Majority of sunny bluebird days on the mountain. Color: I received the Bias in the Les Ettes signature collaboration. It’s the look of the Bias with the influence of Les Ettes. Personally I’m not familiar with Les Ettes but I really love the polka dot design and back-buckle that says “you stink!” (see photo below for example). I think it’s a really fun goggle design that has a girly look to it without being flowers and pink. Lens: The Bias goggles came with the bronze green spectra lens. I really like the look of the lens and it helps with those sunny days to block out the sun and give you good visibility of the snow conditions even on some cloudy days. Fit: Each time I’ve tried the […]

Intended Purpose: Ease and comfort – that’s the Airbrake goggle. With the SwitchLock™ Technology you can switch out lenses quickly with the push of a lever and the goggle is packed full of comfort to eliminate pressure. Location: I wore the goggle at Mammoth and June in California, Canyons in Utah and Keystone in Colorado. Conditions: Majority of sunny days on the mountain with very few overcast/flat light conditions. Color: I received the Shaun White signature style goggle which is $20 cheaper than the regular Airbrake. I’ll be honest my first thought was the goggles look like gift wrapping on the design with the gold and black. But I’ve warmed up to the color choice because I like the fit and feel more than how the goggles look. Lens: The Airbrake goggle come with two lens options. I received the Highlight Gold/Fire Iridium and Dark Grey lenses. Both lenses are designed for sunny days on the slopes which is perfect for the conditions I’ve been riding in. I’ve noticed the Highlight Gold/Fire Iridium lens helps block out the sun glare just a bit better than the Dark Grey but both are great for hiding your eyes from everyone. Fit: The Airbrakes […]

Intended Purpose: These women’s gloves are designed to be a pipe glove for spring conditions. But I disagree, they offer a warmer fit than I think pipe gloves should be. I consider them an all around glove that could be used on cold days and warmer days. Location: I’ve been wearing these gloves during the early season at Mammoth Mountain and on my Colorado and Utah trips. Conditions: I used these gloves on colder days and snowy days on the mountain (which have been few this year) and a couple warmer normal days on the mountain. Sizing: I have typical women’s hands. I’m rocking the Fractures in the size large, they are a bit more material than I need so I’d probably go with the mediums next time. Color: I received these mittens in the torquoise colorway which has a mix of blues/green colors. It actually looks more green in person than the pictures show. I like that the gloves match the subtle green of my Oakley jacket. Features: The Fracture gloves feature a synthetic suede palm, pre-curved full finger grip, partially elasticized neoprene wrist and ladder stretch panels. The gloves are a screen printed 100% nylon with a 8,000mm/5,000gm […]

Intended Purpose: Interchangeable ease meets stylish functionality for the mountain. The I/O goggles are popular for good reason, good visibility with great functionality. Location: I rode the goggles mostly at Mammoth during early season and Copper, Colorado for the Grand Prix. Conditions: Since these goggles arrived for early season, I’ve ridden them on a majority of sunny days with a couple overcast flat light days on the mountain. Color: I got the I/O goggles in the black foundation frame which offers a mix of black straps with the signature Smith design and a frame featuring grey and black colors. Definitely a popular choice for frame, black goes with everything. Lens: The I/O comes with two lenses, I received the Red Sol X mirror lens which is perfect for sunny days on the mountain and the ignitor mirror for more all purpose riding. I spent a couple days in the ignitor for flatlight overcast conditions and used the majority of days in the Red Sol X mirror for sunny days. Fit: The goggles are designed for medium fit and definitely more noticeably bigger fit than the I/OS I’ve used and using this year. With my face, it was fun to try […]

Intended Purpose: Feel your music while blocking out the rest of the world. Good for the mountain or whatever else you need them for. The Neo ear buds have a built in microphone so you can use them for phone calls. Sound: Pretty clear sound but I’m no sound expert. They work, they play my songs as they should sound and I can take phone calls without sounding like I’m in a windstorm. The ear buds do block out other sounds easily. Appearance: The Neo ear buds come in multiple colors but I received them in the dark rasta colorway which is still pretty fun with the colors. I personally like the slurpee color for my personal taste but you don’t notice the color when you rock them on the mountain. Ear Fit: Aerial 7’s have been good to me on ear fit, definitely ending my use of the horrible Apple headphones that hurt my ears after use. These ear buds comes in a double dome shape which is my first time using them and they also give you three different sizes to make sure the fit is there.
Intended Purpose: The carry-on roller matches its name. It’s built for traveling by plane, easy to carry on and quick to roll through the airport with. It’s compact and lightweight with enough room for your travel needs. It comes in women’s designs and men’s designs so you don’t have to sport the basic black carry-on this year (and blend in). Size: The Dakine carry-on roller is 36L with 2200 cu. in. of space. It’s small enough to easily fit on the airplane and even the smaller airplanes (into ski resort towns). I’ve found that it’s enough space for a weekend trip with a couple changes of clothes and shoes. It also works for trips by car. Appearance: I’ve been really loving plaid this year so when it came time to pick a design, I went with the Tartan plaid option. It’s a mix of blue, green and pink plaid. The inside liner of the Blue Tartan is a bit flowery but I like that it’s in the inside liner and well done. Ease of Travel: When you fly you want a carry on that’s easy to deal with, that rolls and that fits so you aren’t stuck in the aisle, […]

Intended Purpose: The Bolle Simmer is designed to fit small to medium face in a compact design with distortion free vision. Location: I rode these goggles in the early season at Mammoth Mountain. Conditions: The early season conditions were a lot of stormy days with overcast skies, crappy flatlight and a couple rare bluebird moments. Color: I received these goggles in the purple flower frame and to be honest, it’s too feminine for my tastes. I wore it to review it but definitely the flowery/girly look is not my style so I didn’t wear it beyond trying it out. There are other frame options that are more ideal in my opinion and I especially like the bright blue option they have for this year. Lens: I rode the Aurora lens. These lenses are good for a mix of cloudy conditions where you need more depth perception. I took them out on a couple overcast/cloudy days at Mammoth and then sunny days where the slight mirrored helped but it’s definitely meant for not as much sun/more clouds. On the cloudy days it was good for visibility, allowing me to see the ranging snow conditions as I was riding them. Fit: These […]

Intended Purpose: The Speck x Burton Fitted iPhone case is a collaboration between Speck and Burton that delivers the protective quality of Speck and the visually stimulating patterns from Burton. It makes your iPhone look better with a better feel to it. Fit: This is a two piece hard shell design that snaps and locks together. The phone has bounced around a couple times but the case hasn’t disconnected. It hugs the iPhone design and still looks good without any extra bulk to it. Appearance: I received a couple pattern options for the Speck x Burton case (some went to giveaways) and ended up picking out the two that I liked. In the end I went with the Lumber Lighter fabric which is a plaid color assortment. For 2012, they have even more options to choose from (definitely lots of plaids). I like plaids so it’s fun to have this on my iPhone case. Features: The Speck x Burton fitted case comes with a two-piece hard shell design.
Intended Purpose: Airhole designs their masks with a signature airhole design at the mouth so you can inhale/exhale easily, drink water through it and shred all day with good breathability. Appearance: I received the Tie Up Mask with the gigantic logo print but with a mix of blue/purple/pinkish stripes. Some of the other masks are crazy designs or really simple, this one has a mix of bright fun with simple. Best Used for: The Tie Up Mask is designed to protect your face from the elements. Snow, rain, wind or sun. It’s a lightweight material so I wonder how well it will do on really cold days but it seems great for most of the winter riding and really good for spring conditions. Fit: The Tie Up Mask is one size fits all since you can adjust the tightness/looseness yourself. Once adjusted properly you can pull up and down when you need it and still keep the tightness in the back of your neck as you like it.
