Location: Heavenly, CA, Northstar, CA and Mammoth, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to soft conditions. Setup: I rode the DWD Genovese with Union Atlas Team bindings and Vans Ferra boots size 8. Size: 157cm. First Impression: Flat Camber makes this board really handle everything you throw at it. Weight: Average. Flex: Pretty consistent flex, it’s on the stiffer end for a park board which is why it handles the rest of the mountain so great. Overall I consider a good medium of the road board for flex, softer torsional flex to get quicker response out of and quite even flex longitudinally on the board. Presses/butters are capable but not as easy as a park or reverse camber board. The flat camber is pretty rad, has mellow camber so it’s not completely flat. Turning: Easy to engage on edge but definitely more aggressive when you start locking in each turn. Quick to turn, responsive and made for really fun short radius turns. On the longer turns, easier to draw out each S turn down the mountain. Super secure on edgehold, the flat camber really helps with that. Stable: This is where the Genovese excels the most. The flat camber really allows the […]

Location: Mammoth, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy conditions. Setup: I rode the Burton Feelgood Flying V with Burton Diode bindings and Vans Ferra boots size 8. Size: 155cm. First Impression: Continues to be a great board for all mountain female riders Weight: Average. Flex: Softer torsional flex between the bindings so the board is super easy to turn but stiffer flex underneath and towards the tip/tail for stability for freeriding. The carbon I-beam definitely helps for the pop and stability so you can charge the mountain. The Feelgood comes with camber or flying V, I rode the Flying V model with reverse camber. V-rocker between the feet and underneath the feet is camber zones and rocker towards the tip and tail. Turning: The Feelgood has always been a responsive carving board and quick to get edge to edge while riding. On the softer snow, it really held an edge into each turn and offered up a good mix of turns without any catches or problems. On shorter turns, it was quick and nimble. On the icy spots, I had an issue with the board holding an edge and not slipping out but that was the only issue with it […]

Location: Mammoth Mountain, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy groomers. Setup: I rode the Burton Stilettos on the Burton Lipstick with my Vans Ferra Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: This was an easy set up for my boots. Probably one of the easier bindings to get going and didn’t require much adjustment. Fit: I tried the Stiletto bindings in the larges which were a good fit for my boots. The straps are super padded and look big on my boots but offer a good amount of support. First Impression: The Stilettos are a really easy going binding, definitely a great progressive choice for women. Appearance: The Stilettos I tried were the Lime Drop colorchoice. They are really fun, bright and youthful looking with flowers and the mix of lime/yellow in the binding. Comfort: The Stilettos take on the comfort of the higher end Burton bindings to the max level. They are super comfortable, padded to the extreme and make you feel like you are attached to pillows. Functionality: The Burton Stilettos come with the 3D curved Lushstrap for the ankle strap and Prima Capstrap for the toe strap. Both offer up good padding, EVA with the […]

Location: Mammoth, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy conditions. Setup: I rode the Burton Lip-Stick with Burton Stilletto bindings and Vans Ferra boots size 8. Size: 149cm. First Impression: Flat Top definitely suits the Lip-Stick! Weight: Average. Flex: Now that the Lip-Stick is a Flat Top, the board still offers a fun playful park flex for the ladies. It’s softer on the nose and tail where you get the playfulness of rocker but with the stiffer flex between the bindings to give you stability on the flat profile. Easier torsional flex to make turning easier. The Lip-Stick LTD for next year comes with Flat Top which is a flat profile between the feet for better stability and a tail/tip kick up with early rise for playfulness. Turning: The Lip-Stick was quick and on point with turning. The Flat Top still let it be an easy board to flex and maneuver into each turn. The Lip-Stick could handle the longer drawn out S turns but also was very good torsional flex but quick shorter turns. Stable: This is where the Flat Top excels from previous years. The board can handle and grip on the icy hardpacked conditions despite being a park softer […]

Time to set up the binding: This was a pretty quick setup to get going thanks to the knowledgable demo guy. He grabbed the Nug, the Scribe bindings and set me up with the right stance, angles and fit the bindings to my boots. Fit: I tried the Scribes in the mediums which fits my boots but are snugger in the heel of the boot. The toe straps are a bit more bulky but fit over the toe of my boot fine. First Impression: The Scribes offer up a comfy all mountain ride with a wider ankle strap. Appearance: The Scribes I tried out came in the black colorway which are pretty simple for design. Most of the binding is black and says Scribe on the front of the binding. There’s very simple gold colorway on the Scribe text. Comfort: The Scribes are a super comfortable binding, good padding on the baseplate and highback. The asym superstrap ankle strap is very well padded, the primo capstrap offers a good padded toe capstrap that […]

Setup: I rode the Burton Diode bindings on the Burton Feelgood Flying V with my Vans Ferra Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: This setup was average time to set up for the demo. Once we knew the size, it was easy to get it dialed and mounted to the aftermath with the EST/ICS system. Fit: My size 8 women’s boots worked fine in the small Diode bindings for fit. The straps worked with my boots and there was no extra width in the bindings. First Impression: Holy hell, these highbacks aren’t a joke. Appearance: I rode the re:flex Diode’s so they came in the blue/black color option. It’s mostly a black binding with some blue ratchets and a highback with blue on the outside and blue polka dots on the inside. It’s a pretty slick binding in the design. Comfort: The Diode’s in my opinion aren’t as padded or comfortable as the malavita’s. There is padding in the baseplate and the straps are padded but there is less padding in the highback and you feel very connected because of it. Functionality: The Burton Diode bindings feature a […]

Location: Mammoth, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy conditions. Setup: I rode the Burton Aftermath with Burton Malavita Restricted bindings and Vans Ferra boots size 8. Size: 155cm. First Impression: I was warned this board is aggressive and stiff for a park board but dang it’s fun! Weight: Average. Flex: For a park board, the Aftermath is on the stiffer end of freestyle riding. It’s built for jumps, hard landings and can handle the freeriding. Stiffer nose/tail and underfoot the bindings with a torsionally softer flex between the bindings. The Aftermath is traditional camber and rides consistenly and aggressively with it. Turning: The Aftermath was consistent on carving thanks to camber and really just a feel good board for turning. It could handle long radius turns much better in my opinion, shorter turns weren’t as quick but still capable just took a bit more to maneuver the board into them. Stable: The stiffer park flex and camber helped the board for stability on the mountain. Conditions were icy to hardpacked and the Aftermath had no problem holding an edge on the icy spots. On jumps, the board took landings with ease especially when the snow started getting bumped out. Pop: Full […]

Intended Purpose: The Mercenary is Arnette’s ultimate goggle for style and performance technology to meet the demands on the mountain. Location: I wore the goggle at Mammoth and June in California and Park City in Utah. Conditions: Mix of sunny bluebird days to overcast cloudy days on the mountain. Color: I received the Mercenary goggles in a couple color options but ended up sticking with the midnight black frame choice for a simple black color don’t mess with me look. Lens: The Mercenary goggles I received came with the shadow chrome lens choice. Good choice of lens for somewhat cloudy/sunny days on the mountain, the lens block out some sunlight and help with seeing snow conditions. On really shady runs, I had some issues with seeing the varying snow. Fit: This is my first time trying the Arnette Mercenary goggles and they face foam helps keep it snug against my face and nose. There is some space at the very top of the goggle where air can get through but it’s minimal and I’ve only noticed it one time during a super windy day. Fit: I rode the Malavita Restricted bindings in the size small for my women’s size 8 boots. I could have ridden the mediums as well but the smalls fit my boot width better and the straps worked. First Impression: I can see why the Restricted Malavita’s are popular, wings with a solid binding. Appearance: The Restricted Malavita’s come in the blackness colorway. The normal malavita bindings has more color choices but the Restricted kept it simple with the blackness this year. It’s a plain black binding with only the Malavita wording on the binding. Comfort: The Malavita’s offer up good cushioning on the baseplate, highback and ankle strap. It’s a pretty padded binding overall.
Intended Purpose: The sleek smaller frame of the Spy Bias meets the fashion mavens at Les Ettes for a fun signature model. The Spy + Les Ettes Bias is packed full of Spy’s features like Carl Zeiss vision and Scoop ventilation system with fresh matte accents, a signature multi-colored polka dot strap and “you stink” on the back clip. Location: I wore the goggle at Heavenly, Mammoth and June in California. Conditions: Majority of sunny bluebird days on the mountain. Color: I received the Bias in the Les Ettes signature collaboration. It’s the look of the Bias with the influence of Les Ettes. Personally I’m not familiar with Les Ettes but I really love the polka dot design and back-buckle that says “you stink!” (see photo below for example).
