Location: Loveland, Breckenridge & Copper, Colorado Snow Conditions: Mixture of weather with hardpacked groomers, slush and hardpacked icy conditions. Setup: I rode the Capita Ultrafear FK with my Union Force SL’s and my Bonfire Geo boots. First Impression: This is my kind of porridge, just right for shredding…not insanely soft but not insanely stiff…still a fun deck to ride. Size: 155cm Weight: lighter than average Flex: The Ultrafear FK is an upgraded horrorscope, the core plays a huge part in the flex differences between the boards. The Ultrafear is stiffer than the horrorscope and gives it a more stable feel freeriding with. The longitudinal flex feels a tad stiffer and torsionally it’s a tad stiffer but between both there’s a lot of play to it, you can still get quick sharp turns that are stable and you can still butter and play with the nose and tail of the board. It’s not as easy to butter as the horroscope but it still is playful. But overall this board is not a stiff ride, it’s a good medium flex board and just so happens to be stiffer than the horrorscope but softer than the Indoor Survival from my experiences riding them.
Location: Keystone, Colorado Snow Conditions: Bluebird with hardpacked groomers to a mixture of conditions. Setup: I rode the Union Forces with a variety of snowboards and my Rome Vamp size 8 boots. Time to set up the binding: Average Fit: My Rome vamps fit nicely into the Forces heelcup and the only big adjustment is just making sure the straps are at the right dots lined up to fit my boots. First Impression: There’s a reason I own these bindings and why I use them as my binding for demos, I never need to adjust to them and I know they will do fine riding. Appearance: They are green, bright green and If I buy these for next year I could mix-match with my red pair to be Christmas year round. Really they looked good on the Park Pickle the best. Comfort: The Forces are always comfort, good padding in the highback to baseplate to help soften rough landings and absorb bumpy terrain. The straps are super comfortable and really just molds well to my boot. Functionality: Upgraded ratchets which I hardly noticed, they still run and ratchet without any slips or sticking issues. Quick adjust on the ankle strap […]

The big reason I came out to Washington was to come join the Board Insiders team for reviewing some boards. Board Insiders is a new website coming out that features board reviews and videos of each board by riders you get to know. I joined in a couple months ago and at SIA met the crew in person and committed to coming out for it. I am here for 3 days on snow at Stevens Pass to demo the 09-10 boards with a crew of other riders. I’m on limited internet access so be patient with me returning comments and emails until Thursday night. The best news was last night it finally started to snow in the Northwest and today by the time we hit up Stevens it was dumping on the mountain and no one was here! Today was the first day, finally meeting everyone involved and getting to check out the boards. As a female rider for Board Insiders I kept to women’s specific boards to give my input on them. I rode the Ride Compact, Arbor Cadence and Roxy Envi today on the mountain. So I gotta say, I’ve been spoiled in Colorado. Blue skies, […]
