As the 2008-2009 season winds down, I like to look back at the demo year to see what boards & bindings stood out from the pack. This isn’t meant to be a board test, because I don’t have the ability to ride every board out there so it becomes a list of products requested by readers and by me to check out. I try to ride boards that have interest or brands that are hard to get reviews on and stay clear from boards that I feel I will dislike. For 2008-2009 products, I rode 51 snowboards and 21 bindings. Of the 51 snowboards, 41 of those were mens and 10 were women’s. Of the 21 bindings, 15 of those were women’s and 6 of those were men’s. The majority of the boards and bindings were done on demo days, generally open to the public. I attend as many demo days in Colorado as I possibly can, for early 2008 I spent 6 days on snow riding boards at demos. [singlepic id=5662 w=400 h=300 float=] I’ve been trying to ride more and more women’s products each year to make it a fair review system. Unfortunately at demo days, there are […]

Intended Purpose: Look good and still be able to see down the mountain. Color: I have the Kaleidoscope’s in Rust Red. My favorite is the stars and tortoise though. Location: I received the goggles at SIA and since then have rode with them mostly in Steamboat Springs, Colorado and Keystone, Colorado. Conditions: I’ve worn the goggles on bluebird days to overcast, flat light days and snowing days. Visibility: The peripheral vision on the goggles is good, I haven’t had any issues with seeing people right next to me while riding. The best part about the lenses…I can see you but you can’t see me. I tested this a lot on the mountain with friends by staring at their crotches, no one could see my eyes which is awesome. On a sunny day, the lens blocks out the sun and on flat light days that I’ve rode with them, but the sunny days are definitely the best for visibility between the two. Features: Double Anti-Scratch/Anti-Fog Silver Mirror Lens, so far my lenses are fine. I’ve had one issue with getting something on it but I just had to clean it following the Ashbury directions and it was fine after that. Ashbury’s […]

This review will be updated throughout the season as I demo and test more 08/09 bindings. Each review is judged by the same standard and for the majority of reviews I used my own boots (some exceptions). About me as a snowboarder: I’m coming up on my 15th season snowboarding. I am a freerider (I ride trees, powder, steeps, groomers, natural terrain) and I ride halfpipe. I am 5’6″ and typically ride a 158cm for my all mountain board, my powder board is a 161 or 164cm and my park board is a 155cm. I weigh about 200lbs give or take. I am a regular rider with a 22 inch width, +15, -15 stance angles. I wear size 8 womens snowboard boots and feel comfortable riding both men’s and women’s bindings. My opinion is only my opinion…of how these bindings rode. Take it as you want.
Last year at SIA, two snowboard companies released snowboards with reverse camber. For 2008-2009 it looks like more companies will be releasing reverse camber or no camber combinations. Each company has their own style of reverse camber and each one rides completely different. Each style is also patent pending which explains why one company will not have the same style as another company. Each board designed with rocker is meant for different riding styles. Some rocker boards are powder specific while others are park specific. Check back as this post gets updated with more information as released. 6/17/08 I have rode/reviewed these boards for 08-09 that have rocker/reverse camber/no camber: 08-09 GNU B-pro BTX08-09 Lib Tech Phoenix BTX08-09 Lib Tech Riders Choice BTX08-09 Lib Tech Boxscratcher BTX08-09 Lib Tech McKink BTX08-09 Lib Tech TRS BTX08-09 Never Summer Evo R08-09 Never Summer SL R08-09 Never Summer Infinity R08-09 K2 Turbo Dream08-09 Burton Fix08-09 Burton Hero08-09 Capita Horrorscope FK08-09 Nitro Sub Pop08-09 Roxy Eminence BTXLib Tech Banana Technology “Banana Technology replaces camber with rocker “banana” between your feet.
Today was the 2nd day of the on-snow demo’s here in Keystone, Colorado. Last night Summit County got a wicked storm, high winds and puking snow to whiteout conditions which shut down 1-70 Highway. Today was a powder day in Keystone, definitely fresh tracks to be made and since the highway was still closed this morning…not many people on the mountain. Conditions changed throughout the day, powder in the morning to hard packed ice in the afternoon. Snowing constantly throughout the late morning with winds. It was colder than yesterday which meant a lot of breaks to warm up. I never break out hand warmers but today was a hand warmer day on the mountain. I rode 6 boards, 6 bindings and 2 pairs of goggles. The brands I tried today were Salomon, Capita, Union, Ride, Flow, Drake, O-matic, Flux, Bolle, and Smith. I’ll be writing up reviews in the next couple days on the boards/bindings I rode today. Vans Boots O-matic Snowboards I didn’t stick around too late today since another storm was rolling in. My drive back to Steamboat took 3 hours because Rabbit Ears Pass was closed so it meant taking a detour to get home.

Today was the first day of the on-snow industry demo here at Keystone, Colorado. I took out 6 boards, 5 bindings, 2 boots (plus mine) and 2 pairs of goggles. All 2008-2009 gear. The brands that I tried today were K2, Nitro, Raiden, Rome, Vans, Oakley, DC, Technine, and Burton. I’ll put up the complete list of setups as I start to put out the review for each of them. Definitely hope to get on more companies tomorrow. Here’s a shot of some Rome Snowboards I tried out the Rome Vamps today which I was stoked on since they offer dual boa and a good fit to my foot. Definitely a softer flex than i’m used to…but still had some fun riding them. Today each board/binding set up got 3 runs. Two runs devoted to free riding, trees and any powder I could find. One run devoted to riding half pipe which today was perfect because the pipe was icy…only spot on the mountain to see how well the boards grip on ice. Conditions throughout the day were hard packed groomers to powder in the afternoon. It started out as a clear, good hard packed day. Eventually the storm came […]
