Location: Loveland, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy conditions on the mountain. Setup: I rode the Burton Custom with Burton Lexa bindings and Bonfire Geo boots. Size: 156cm. First Impression: The v-rocker upgrade finally enticed me to check it the new Custom and see what the fuss was. Weight: Average Flex: The custom is in the middle of the road on flex, it wasn’t a softer flex but not stiffer either. Longitudinally it seemed stiffer which gave it more stability and really let it handle turns with ease. Torsionally there was good flex and with the rocker really easy to roll over onto edge for a quicker response than I was expecting. The softer nose/tail makes it so you can play on it when you aren’t charging. It’s not a soft noodly board and I found I could still get some good The V-rocker is a 3 stage rocker, center rocker between the feet and then rocker outside of the foot that lift up the tip and tail of the board. Turning: Riding the custom was very smooth and predictable when it came to turning down the mountain. I had no problems with initiating a turn, holding it through the […]

Location: Loveland, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy conditions on the mountain. Setup: I rode the Nitro Rook with Raiden Eris bindings and Bonfire Geo boots. Size: 154cm. First Impression: A bit stiffer than I was expecting but good pop and all around seems like your typical park board. Weight: Average Flex: The rook was deceiving at first, it seemed like a stiff board and then once I got it riding it was stiffer underfoot to the nose and tail, but in between the bindings softer flex so really easy to maneuver and a more forgiving flex than I was expecting. The combination of stiffer nose/tail made it a bit more difficult to get some high press action going on. Turning: I found the really short radius quick turns were the best and most responsive with the easy quick edge to edge and the softer torsional flex. When I tried to hold the board into longer drawn out turns it wasn’t as fun and seemed to require more effort to remain stable through them. Stable: It was decent at higher speeds, not the most stable board I’ve ridden in that size but it didn’t buck me either. It handled shorter […]

Location: Loveland, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy conditions on the mountain. Setup: I rode the Rome Agent with Union Force bindings and Bonfire Geo boots. Size: 154cm. First Impression: The agent is a classic and while I couldn’t ride the 1985 version it was good to get back on a classic ride. Weight: Average Flex: The agent isn’t a noodle by any means and longitudinally it’s a tad stiffer than it is torsionally, the torsional flex really allows you to get quick response and maneuverability from it on the mountain. Rome added reverse-V carbon stringers in the tail to give you more pop and that makes it a tad stiffer. I tried to press both the nose and tail, found the nose easier to press and butter with. Turning: It was easy to ininiate turns on the agent (the bevel helped with not catching edges) and once on edge, it held each turn with no problem. I was able to ride longer S turns with easy stability down the mountain and if I needed quick response from shorter turns, no problem there either. It carved the icy spots on the mountain without slipping out and I felt really comfortable […]

Location: Loveland, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy conditions on the mountain. Setup: I rode the K2 Slayblade with K2 Auto Agogo bindings and Bonfire Geo boots. Size: 156cm. First Impression: The eco pop won me over, lets see if I feel the same about the men’s model for flatline technology. Weight: Lighter than average Flex: Overall it’s on the stiffer end of the spectrum, light stiffer freeride board meant to charge. The nose and tail are stiffer in flex and I found it to be a bit torsionally stiffer than I was expecting which made it a bit slower edge to edge but really stable once on edge it charged the mountain. The K2 Slayblade has flatline technology which is zero camber, flat board which delivers stability and versatility. It’s a good medium between camber and rocker. Turning: Longer drawn out S turns were the best on this board, it really held a carve throughout the entire turn. Shorter turns I found it a bit more difficult for me from the torsional stiffness to get the quick response out of. I really like K2’s hyper progressive sidecut because it’s easy to get into and out of turns but when […]

Location: Steamboat, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked conditions on the mountain. Setup: I rode the Capita Sierrascope with Union bastardized bindings and Bonfire Geo boots. Size: 152cm. First Impression: The sierrascope is a collaboration between sierra snowboards and capita snowboards, sometimes collabs can make a product that is a great deal and a great ride…this is one of them. Weight: Average Flex: Just like the indoor, the sierracope has a softer nose and tail with stiffer flex between the bindings from the carbon X stringers. It makes it really stable between the feet and a tad playful on the nose and tail with the help of the flat kick. Stiffer torsional flex which I found doesn’t make it to difficult to go edge to edge but helps with the stability when riding and especially in halfpipe. It’s not as playful as the horrorscope or ultrafear by any means. Capita’s Flat Kick technology had zero camber between the bindings and then kicks up towards the nose and tail. Turning: It’s easy to get on edge and despite the stiffness between foot it doesn’t make you work harder to get it into turns. Turn initiation is super easy and doesn’t throw any surprises […]

Location: Loveland, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy conditions on the mountain. Setup: I rode the Arbor Push with Union Force bindings and Bonfire Geo boots. Size: 156cm. First Impression: Camber is like coming home, you know it’s good for you and you know exactly how it will react to you. Weight: tad heavier than average Flex: The push is one of the stiffer women’s freeride boards and meant for an aggressive female rider. Longitudinally stiffer with a softer nose and stiffer tail, torsionally a tad softer so you can get the board quickly from edge to edge and engage the turn easier than expected. But still not an easy women’s board, overall a stiffer board and compares to some other stiffer women’s freeride boards for the mountain. Turning: I hadn’t been on camber in a while but I found the push not too difficult to engage the edge and get into a turn quickly. Once in the turn, you feel stable and no problem engaging the edge and when you come out of the turn you’re increasing speed than when you went into the turn. It’s a fast board and carves on a dime, but also no room for […]

Location: Loveland, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy conditions on the mountain. Setup: I rode the Burton Lip-stick with my Burton Lexa bindings and Bonfire Geo boots. Size: 154cm. First Impression: A stellar women’s park board that is the definition of playing on the mountain. Weight: Average Flex: The Lip-stick was definitely a tad stiffer between the bindings and softer on the nose and a tad stiffer tail making it really an easy ride. The edge to edge was still quick and you could torsionally flex the board to get into quicker turns but it’s still overall on the soft side of the flex scale and it’s meant for park. The lip-stick is V-rocker, so a 3-stage rocker with one rocker between the feet and rockers outside of the foot to raise up the contact points. Turning: The lip-stick is a very easy board to manuever on the mountain, it’s forgiving and easy to go on edge with. For a park board it handles freeriding decently but I wouldn’t expect to charge and rally turns on this board, it can hold turns on the mountain but the quicker short radius turns felt better for me than the long drawn out […]

Setup: I rode the Form Destroyer Chillydog with Forum Shaka bindings and Bonfire Geo boots. Size: 154cm First Impression: Chillydog rocker, lets see how this is on a mid flexing board. Weight: Average Flex: Overall the flex was middle of the road, its meant for all mountain and it’s not a soft rocker board but not stiffer either. Good mix of flex that blends together to give the board a ride to handle it all. I found the flex fine for freeriding and when I did take it in the park or just playing with, the nose and tail were easy to press and butter on with the chillydog rocker. It felt stiffer under bindings and definitely for the words they describe on how it can handle jumping, that would make sense to take the impact on landings better. The chillydog rocker is a continuous rocker from tip to tail and I found I liked it better on the destroyer than the youngblood where it was a bit too soft for me. Turning: This is where I preferred the destroyer over the youngblood, the destroyer excelled edge to […]

Setup: I rode the Signal Omni with my Union Force SL’s and my Bonfire Geo boots. First Impression: Definitely not what I was expecting but a nice surprise on signal’s take to reverse camber. Size: 156cm Weight: lighter than average Flex: The omni isn’t as stiff as some other reverse camber boards I’ve ridden, it’s on the softer side compared to them but it isn’t a soft flexing snowboard. It’s stiffer longitudinally with a softer torsional flex that gives you really quick edge to edge response when riding and the longitudinal flex helps keep the board stable on the mountain. I actually found this board a easy and predictable ride for the mountain. The omni’s reverse camber so it has camber between the feet, rocker from your feet out to the tip and tail. I didn’t ride it in deep powder but in smaller amounts of powder, the reverse camber helped float and felt comfortable while staying centered on the board. Turning: This is where the omni excels, groomers and carving. This board can rally on edge through short and long radius […]

Location: Loveland, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy conditions on the mountain. Setup: I rode the Rome Postermania 1985 with Union Contact bindings and Bonfire Geo boots. Size: 153cm. First Impression: I wasn’t planning to ride this board but lets see how it handles on the mountain. Weight: Average Flex: The Postermania rocked a stiffer nose and tail which helped give it more stability on the mountain and a softer playful feel between the bindings that give it some good torsional flex when you needed quick response. Overall it’s in the middle of the road for board flex and I thought it was a bit on the stiffer side for a more park orientated board but it’s a board that you could take outside on the mountain. The reverse free on the postermania isn’t that noticeable but offers reverse camber combined with straight camber in the nose and tail.
