Location: Mammoth Mountain, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy groomers. Setup: I rode the Burton Stilettos on the Burton Lipstick with my Vans Ferra Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: This was an easy set up for my boots. Probably one of the easier bindings to get going and didn’t require much adjustment. Fit: I tried the Stiletto bindings in the larges which were a good fit for my boots. The straps are super padded and look big on my boots but offer a good amount of support. First Impression: The Stilettos are a really easy going binding, definitely a great progressive choice for women. Appearance: The Stilettos I tried were the Lime Drop colorchoice. They are really fun, bright and youthful looking with flowers and the mix of lime/yellow in the binding. Comfort: The Stilettos take on the comfort of the higher end Burton bindings to the max level. They are super comfortable, padded to the extreme and make you feel like you are attached to pillows. Functionality: The Burton Stilettos come with the 3D curved Lushstrap for the ankle strap and Prima Capstrap for the toe strap. Both offer up good padding, EVA with the […]

Location: Mammoth Mountain, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy groomers. Setup: I rode the Burton Scribes on the Burton Nug with my Vans Ferra Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: This was a pretty quick setup to get going thanks to the knowledgable demo guy. He grabbed the Nug, the Scribe bindings and set me up with the right stance, angles and fit the bindings to my boots. Fit: I tried the Scribes in the mediums which fits my boots but are snugger in the heel of the boot. The toe straps are a bit more bulky but fit over the toe of my boot fine. First Impression: The Scribes offer up a comfy all mountain ride with a wider ankle strap. Appearance: The Scribes I tried out came in the black colorway which are pretty simple for design. Most of the binding is black and says Scribe on the front of the binding. There’s very simple gold colorway on the Scribe text. Comfort: The Scribes are a super comfortable binding, good padding on the baseplate and highback. The asym superstrap ankle strap is very well padded, the primo capstrap offers a good padded toe capstrap that […]

Location: Mammoth Mountain, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy groomers. Setup: I rode the Burton Diode bindings on the Burton Feelgood Flying V with my Vans Ferra Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: This setup was average time to set up for the demo. Once we knew the size, it was easy to get it dialed and mounted to the aftermath with the EST/ICS system. Fit: My size 8 women’s boots worked fine in the small Diode bindings for fit. The straps worked with my boots and there was no extra width in the bindings. First Impression: Holy hell, these highbacks aren’t a joke. Appearance: I rode the re:flex Diode’s so they came in the blue/black color option. It’s mostly a black binding with some blue ratchets and a highback with blue on the outside and blue polka dots on the inside. It’s a pretty slick binding in the design. Comfort: The Diode’s in my opinion aren’t as padded or comfortable as the malavita’s. There is padding in the baseplate and the straps are padded but there is less padding in the highback and you feel very connected because of it. Functionality: The Burton Diode bindings feature a […]

Location: Mammoth Mountain and June Mountain, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy groomers. Setup: I rode the Bent Metal Mortal on the Arbor Coda with my Vans Veil Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: Took a couple minutes to familiarize myself with the Bent Metal bindings, then it was just dialing in the bindings to the board and making sure the fit was correct to my boot. The ankle strap is easy adjustment on the mountain but the toe strap requires a tool. Fit: I received the Mortals in the S/M size. The heel of my Vans boots was snug into the binding heel but it fit and was snug. Everything else was easy to adjust and fit fine to my women’s boot. The highback wasn’t too high for my bindings. First Impression: Responsive for the mountain that helped save me from the madness on the slopes. Appearance: The Mortals I tried out were in the blue colorway with a mix of blue/green and bright fun mixed into it. Pretty basic design with the Bent Metal logo on it. Comfort: The ankle strap offered up good padding to the binding, the highback had some padding but didn’t […]

Location: Mammoth Mountain, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy groomers. Setup: I rode the Flux GU15 on the Arbor Wasteland with my Vans Veil Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: Pretty average time to set up the bindings. Adjusted the binding straps to fit my boots better but that didn’t take more than a couple minutes. Fit: I rode the women’s small GU15 bindings which fit women’s 7-9 size. My size 8 Vans boots were barely fitting in them, definitely snug in the heel of the binding but didn’t get stuck while riding or unstrapping each lift ride. First Impression: The GU15’s might be pretty in pink but they are soft and badass in the park. Appearance: I demoed the GU15’s in the pink polka dot color option. They are absolutely bright prink with black polka dots and a pink bow on the toe strap. The bindings also come in a black and violet color option for those not loving the pink color. I probably wouldn’t buy the pink because of my own personal preferences. Comfort: Flux has it dialed on comfortable bindings. The GU15’s deliver a very comfortable plush ride for the women wanting a softer […]

The first snow has fallen, resorts around the US are opening up and all the 2011/12 gear will be hitting the slopes soon! Each year before the season begins, I get to test and try out different bindings to review. Eventually this list will be expanded but here’s the collection of bindings I was able to try out for 2011/12 so far! So far I’ve ridden 16 bindings, 9 women’s and 7 men’s models. Each review is judged by the same standard and for the majority of reviews I used my own boots. If you have a specific binding you would like to be reviewed please request it in the comment section. About me as a snowboarder: I’m coming up on my 18th season snowboarding. I am majority freerider (I ride trees, powder, steeps, groomers, natural terrain) and I ride halfpipe. I’m progressing my park experience with boxes/rails. I am 5’6″ and typically ride a 156cm for my all mountain board, my powder board is a 161cm and my park board is a 151cm. I am a regular rider with a 22 inch width, +15, -15 stance angles. I wear size 8 womens snowboard boots and feel comfortable riding both […]

Location: Mammoth, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked groomers to softer slushy runs. Setup: I rode the Flow NXT-AT bindings on the Flow Era with my Vans Veil Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: I set up the NXT-AT bindings at work right before I went out riding. It was actually the quickest I’ve adjusted them myself and much faster than I was expecting to do them. Fit: I’ve ridden the NXT-AT’s before and each time the men’s medium sizing works for my size 8 boots. They can size down for my boots with proper adjustments and there are no gaps on the width of the binding to my boot. My boot was okay in the heelcup, I could have done a better job adjusting the fit because there was slight lift upwards in the binding. The highback was comfortable with my boot height, no problems on it being too much. First Impression: The NXT-AT’s are a popular binding for good reason. All around handling with easy quick access. Appearance: Probably my most favorite graphics of the Flow line for 2012, the colors are more subtle with blue, black and white colorways. The power strap is mostly black with […]

Setup: I rode the Union Forces on the Capita Indoor Survival with my Vans Veil Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: The forces were easy to mount and only took a matter of minutes with adjustments. Fit: I normally use men’s Union bindings throughout the winter so I’m used to using the M/L size with my Vans boots. The width fits and I just have to adjust the heelcup and the straps. First Impression: The Forces are dialed and the neon acid colorway was the only bright thing in the NW that day. Appearance: Neon. You either love it or you hate it. It stands out like a sore thumb and attracts eyes to your bindings very easily. I don’t remember having a choice in the color and personally I don’t care. Right now when I look at it, I wouldn’t pick that color for myself but when I rode it, the brightness was fun in the overcast grey-ish day. Comfort: Comfortable binding overall with good padding that helps absorb rougher terrain. I rode the Forces through some really choppy spots at the Holy […]

Time to set up the binding: It’s been a while since I mounted Rome’s by my own hands and at first I thought the screws were too short. After a google search, I found out I just needed to tighten one screw without the washer, then the screws with washers would tighten and I could put a washer on the last screw. So it took more time but only because the last time I had madisons that wasn’t an issue. Other than that, straps was quick adjust so took no time to set up to my boots. Fit: The Rome Madisons have always been a good fit to my Vans boots. My boots are quick to adjust with the Madisons, I usually pull out the toe ramp to match the boot length better and the width of the binding works good with my boot footprint.
