Location: Mammoth, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked groomers to softer slushy runs. Setup: I rode the Flow Drifter with my Union Team bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 159cm. First Impression: This is not the same board I rode at the SIA on-snow – which is a great thing! Weight: average Flex: Right in the middle of the board flex spectrum, not as stiff was the Infinite and not as a soft as the Verve or Era. I found that the nose and tail were slight stiffer than the middle of the board. The torsional flex was softer, easy to maneuver and forgiving. The nose cut through some choppy conditions and made for a more stable ride. The Drifter features I-Rock reverse camber which is combined with a convex base, camber starting before the binding area. Turning: The Drifter sidecut was a bit rough at the on-snow but was fixed by the time I rode it at Mammoth. It could handle an assortment of turns with the dual transitional sidecut, short and long radius just fine. The first time I rode it, it hooked and almost bucked you out of a turn but this time, the board was smooth […]

Sick since ’96, that’s the motto Flow stands by when it comes to building their snowboards. They design products that allow you to just go out, ride and forget about your gear. For 11-12, Flow expands the Whiskey technology using basalt, revolutionary carbon designs and forever perfecting the art of shaping a board for the perfect ride. Every board focuses on three areas: binding area, between bindings, tip and tail transition. And with a focus on the three main ingredients: core, sidecut, rocker/camber. For profiles, Flow offers four different profile shapes: EZ-Rock (super mellow reverse camber), Pop-Cam (three phase camber), I-Rock (reverse camber), Pow-Rock (two cambered areas with a long mellow reverse camber). Flow Solitude Flow Snowboards brings you speed, agility and precision with the newly redesigned Solitude. Featuers Whiskey X, Pow-Rock, Directional shape, 4000 base, carbon whiskey bars, quadrax glass, dual-transitional sidecut, DT sidecut. Flex=4.5.
Location: Mammoth, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked groomers to softer slushy runs. Setup: I rode the Flow Infinite with my Union Team bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 159cm. First Impression: Solid freeride board – just wish it wasn’t spring conditions to ride this board. Weight: average Flex: Longitudinally the Infinite felt stiffer with a more forgiving torsional flex on the board. The nose seemed a tad softer and a stiffer tail that you could rally through turns with. Overall the board is medium-stiffer for flex. The Infinite features Pop-Cam, a three phase camber that pops like a normal camber board but with a flatter profile at the tips and between the feet to smooth out the roughest terrain while increasing grip. The Pop-Cam is a mellow profile so you don’t feel like you are riding a crazy reverse camber board that can’t handle the mountain, this board can handle the mountain with the Pop-Cam profile. Turning: If you want responsive and aggressive turns, the Infinite definitely performed for that type of riding and functionality. The board was quick to engage and definitely made you rally turns like a race car, holding speed consistently through the turn and finishing […]

Location: Mammoth, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked groomers to softer slushy runs. Setup: I rode the Flow Verve with my Union Team and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 155cm. First Impression: Freestyle fun – that’s the Verve snowboard Weight: average Flex: The Verve has a softer freestyle flex to it. Torsionally it’s not as soft but that helps give it more stability on the mountain and handling on carves. It’s softer on the nose/tail so you can really get the playful butters but a stiffer flex between the bindings so you hold the board into carves. Overall despite being a softer park board, a lot of the qualities of the board make it great for handling the whole mountain. The Verve features EZ Rock which is a super mellow reverse camber combined with a convex base. Turning: Once you initiated the turns, the Verve was locked in and held tight on edge grip to the conditions. It wasn’t as responsive for quick turns but once you did engage the edge, it held long radius turns very well down the mountain. I felt really comfortable riding it, especially when conditions were brutal tough and the board held an awesome edgehold.
Location: Mammoth, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked groomers to softer slushy runs. Setup: I rode the Flow Quantum with my Union Team bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 155cm. First Impression: This board is why I don’t review graphics. The graphics aren’t for me but it’s the board from Flow that I’d ride all the time. Weight: average Flex: Overall a stiffer freestyle/pipe board with a softer torsional flex so you have quick response edge to edge and a stiffer flex underfoot to the nose and tail that helps give it stability on the mountain. The Quantum features popcam which is a three phase camber that gives the board a traditional camber pop, under the feet is traditional camber that is flat between the bindings with more mellow tips for a forgiving ride. Turning: The Quantum is quick to engage and get into short radius responsive turns with the first radius and then with the second radius that gives you a more stable drawn out carve after you engage and continue to ride through. It makes it quite the board on edge, gripping the hardpacked conditions and yet it doesn’t feel overly aggressive. It’s still forgiving to the rider.
