Location: Mammoth, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to softpacked groomed runs. Setup: I rode the Rome Mod with Rome Targa bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 153cm. First Impression: New upgrades on the mod and a switch from camber to rocker camber! Weight: Average Flex: In the grand scheme of flex, the rome mod is on the stiffer end of freestyle boards. It’s meant for backcountry, for jumps and for stability while riding. Torsionally it’s softer which helps give it quick to quick edge control but most of the stiffer flex is from the bindings to almost the contact points. There’s just enough rocker on the nose/tail that you have float/butterability but it doesn’t make the board any less of a aggressive ride. One major upgrade is the switch from positive camber in 2011 to freepop rocker camber in 2011. Freepop rocker camber is a combination of a flat mid section past the inserts and rocker in the nose and tail. Turning: Quick to engage into turns with a very fluid motion. It carved much better than I was expecting and I later saw that the mod went from a 5 to an 8 on carving which I agree […]

Since the beginning, Rome has been redefining, reinventing and revolutionzing their collection year after year. They’ve expanded their collection of snowboards to offer something to every type of rider. From the urban jib sticks to the backcountry powder machines, each board serves a purpose. For 2012, Rome introduces the whiteroom splitboard, reverb and reverb rocker for park to pow, factory rocker as a price point rocker. Women get additional rocker with the detail rocker snowboard. For board tech, there’s a whole range of styles depending on your personal preference: No hang ups, jibpop, freepop, mtnpop, stay positive camber, hybrid ripit camber, hybrid fun camber, powder S camber. Rome continues to offer rocker snowboards with quickrip sidecut. It lets a board ride short at slow speeds by engaging the mid-section sidecut between the mid-board contact points and ride long at high speeds by engaging the full length sidecut where the mid-board contact points work to improve edge hold. Rome continues with hotrod technology for a targeted, focused, lightweight pop and pressurepop technology for energy transmission from binding to board to snow. Rome Agent Rocker The frontman of the rocker revolution lets it all hang out. Features superpop core matrix, straight triax30 […]

Location: Winter Park, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to softpacked to icy groomers. Setup: I rode the Rome Anthem with Rome Mob bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 157cm. First Impression: Anthem is still that comfortably charge the mountain board. Weight: Average Flex: Longitidinally stiffer flex and a definite more aggressive freeride board. Torsionally had some give but required more effort for me to get quick response out of it. Stiffer underfoot but still capable of presses because of the rocker (just not very much). The rome anthem features hybrid ripit camber which is positive camber for most of the mid-body of the board and ends about 15cm before the contact points, rocker in the nose and tail for adding float and glide out and into turns. Turning: Once I got the anthem on edge, it really held an amazing carve with long radius turns and staying stable on edge. It was fun to look back and just see the line in the snow of S turns drawn out on the mountain. Shorter turns were more effort for me to get into from the stiffer flex. The best part about turning on the anthem was it’s predictability and nothing […]

Location: Winter Park, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to softpacked to icy groomers. Setup: I rode the Rome Mobs on the Rome Anthem with my Vans Veil Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: The mobs were average time to set up and easy to adjust with the quickstrap on both the ankle and toestrap on the bindings. Fit: The men’s rome bindings worked with my Vans Veils boots in size 8, I noticed the gas pedal extended just a tad past my boot but nothing major. The width in the binding fit with some noticeable gaps between the narrow part of the boot but that’s to be expected. The highback was lined right up with the top of my boot but didn’t hurt my calf when riding. When my boot was snug in the binding, I noticed on the left foot ankle strap, I felt a light pressure of the ratchet strap against my boot. First Impression: A softer men’s binding with tweakability Appearance: I ended up riding the mob’s in the black/yellow colorway which are noticeably black with yellow along the baseplate and highback. I think my favorite colorway of the mob series is the LNP binding […]
