Location: Winter Park, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to softpacked to powder. Setup: I rode the Unity Reverse with Technine Jib bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 155cm. First Impression: The reverse is fun and playful but also rides very similar to camber when carving. Weight: Average Flex: If you are expecting a soft reverse camber board, you are mistaken. While the reverse is the softest in the Unity line according to the catalog, its soft in the nose and tail but stiffer between the bindings. That makes the board handle like a camber ride while carving but also playful on the nose and tail for park or float in pow riding. Stiffer torsionally, longitudinally a range of flex but it could be the mix of reverse camber that makes it feel that way. The Reverse features Unity’s reverse camber design which has a small amount of camber between the feet and then angles up at flat angles from the foot area with 6mm of rise on the nose and tail. Turning: Easy to initiate into each turn and better response edge to edge than I expected. Definitely the longer radius turns were more favorable for me, shorter quicker […]

I had heard that the second day of the on-snow was supposed to be cold but negative temperatures are beyond cold. Negative 10-15 degrees was hard to deal with on the mountain but it was sunny and a good day to demo more boards despite the weather. I stayed out from 9am to 4pm demo’ing 2012 boards. I got to ride with some rad people today; Gorio, Trent from Technine and the Snowboarder Magazine crew who was working on their Best Of Test. I ended up giving my 3 top boards (so far). It was so cold out that the first two runs, my goggles froze completely when some moisture got inside. Luckily I could demo other goggles I ended up riding the Lib Tech box scratcher with Roxy bindings, Bataleon Goliath with Flux RK30 bindings, Ride Farrah with Ride Fame bindings, K2 Fastplant with K2 Auto agogo ltd bindings, Burton Easy Living with Burton Lexa bindings, Unity Reverse with Technine bindings, Salomonder with Salomon absolute bindings. I also tried out a RED helmet and Anon goggles for the day. And thanks to Coal for hooking me up with a warm facemask for the slopes. Well now that that’s done…it’s […]

It feels really good to get out of my shoes after 4 days of tradeshow and back into the snowboard boots for the on-snow portion of SIA. It’s the chance to take the new gear to the snow and see what you think about it. I arrived in Winter Park the night before, got a good night of sleep and was up early ready for the long day of trying out boards. [singlepic id=10640 w=1000 h=667 float=] My first run I ran into Kevin Addy from Flow in the lift line and he introduced me to Dale Rehberg now the brand manager for NXTZ. We ended up taking fast laps for a run together. As soon as I came down with them, got to make another lap with Mike West owner of 686. [singlepic id=10641 w=1000 h=667 float=] I started the day with the Capita Totally Fk’n Awesome with Union Atlas bindings, Jones Hovercraft with Union Milans, YES Pick your Line with Union Milans, Roxy Envi with roxy rear entry bindings, Flow drifter with one of the flow womens bindings. One of the best parts of the day was taking a girls shred session with Roxy’s Kyre and Mervin/Quik/Jones Lora. […]
