Location: Stevens Pass, WA Snow Conditions: Softpacked to fresh powder. Setup: I rode the Never Summer Cobra with Union Atlas Team bindings and Vans Ferra boots size 8. Size: 155 First Impression: New design and quick mountain handling give the Cobra a place among Never Summer boards. Weight: Average. Flex: The Cobra is built for all mountain so it’s right in the middle of the flex/dampening scale alongside the SL/Proto. In terms of handling, it feels and rides stiffer than the Proto and more similar to the SL with a tweaked shape. Stiffer flex underfoot that helps with stability, mid range on the longitudinal flex and handing, softer torsional flex between the bindings. It’s quick and responsive in nature but not overally stiff or soft. The Cobra features RC Technology which is a mix of rocker and camber, rocker between the feet and camber just outside both of the bindings. Turning: The Cobra gives you response and ease of turning, just like the Proto. The shorter turns were really quick to engage and it made riding in trees a blast because you didn’t have to question the boards handling. The longer turns were just as fine and especially in the […]

Location: Steamboat and Vail, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to softpacked snow on the groomers, some heavier powder. Setup: I rode the Never Summer SL with Union Force bindings and Vans Ferra boots size 8. Size: 155 cm First Impression: The SL gets some new upgrades but it’s still that all mountain board it was built to be. Weight: Lighter than average. Flex: Smack in the middle, it’s a five on the scale and rides like a five on the scale. Even with the new upgrades, the board hasn’t changed in terms of the style and capability. It’s still middle of the road, torsionally softer for quickness and longitudinally a good consistent middle of the road flex. The 12-13 SL is lighter and has more dampening and pop added to it. It’s not a huge difference except for the lightening of the board. The SL has RC Technology which is a mix of rocker and camber, rocker between the feet and camber just outside both of the bindings. Turning: One of the best features of the SL is the ease of engagement into turns. It’s very consistent, gradual and just goes with what you want for turning. It’s torsionally softer to […]

Since 1991, Never Summer has been building snowboards out of Colorado designed for quality and durability. They’ve built up a solid reputation and now with their RC Technology, continue to grow the brand into more than a popular company out of the Rockies. Their Rocker + Camber technology was introduced a couple years ago and is now present in every single snowboard in their line. Two new boards are in the Never Summer line for 2013. The new Cobra and Cobra X, all mountain boards based off the success of the Proto. Never Summer Cobra/Cobra X All Mountain. Introducing the new Never Summer Cobra! Driven off the massive success of our true twin Proto CT, the Never Summer carbonium Cobra features blunted ends, for reduced swing weight, utilizes a drawn out nose that knifes thru soft snow, and a blunted quick spade tail to enhance float in powder. Features carbonium topsheet, carbonium laminate technology, bi-directional rocker camber profile, STS pretensioned fiberglass, bi-lite fiberglass, NS superlight wood core, RDS2 dampening system, sintered P-tex sidewall, durasurf XT sintered 5501 base, P-tex tip and tail protection, full wrap metal edge. Damp=5, Flex=5. Cobra Sizes: 153, 155, 158, 161, 164 Cobra X Sizes: 159, […]
