Every year there’s always one film that brings out the best riders and showcases snowboarding as it is, what it will become and who we are. Whether it’s the next big gap, a wave of powder or a new way to interpret a walkway, Absinthe has the lead in showing it all and with riders who have their own style and take on snowboarding. Absinthe’s “Nowhere” premiered in Seattle last night to a packed house of snowboarders (and skiers!) that was a must-event for the Seattle snowboard scene. [singlepic id=9983 w=500 h=281 float=] It’s been so much fun to be back in Seattle for premiere season, so many familiar faces that bring such a good vibe to the premieres. The northwest snowboard scene definitely supports the films and the riders who bring out some banger parts. Erik, Jason and I made it out early for the premiere and met up with a fun crew of people for the evening. Erik, myself and Jason with Jessica giving me bunny ears [singlepic id=9984 w=500 h=281 float=] Lee, Jessica and Kat [singlepic id=9982 w=500 h=281 float=] Plenty of cheers welcomed Justin Hostynek to the stage as he introduced Nowhere to the packed audience […]

Last night was the Denver stop of the Absinthe Sphere of Influence tour in Colorado, with enough word on the street for people to check out this film it was sold out and needed an additional theatre to keep the party going on two screens. I made my way down to Denver to see Neverland for the 2nd time on the big screen and met up with Gags and Justin to watch the film. Thanks to Joshua and Drew for all their hard work on the film tours. Unfortunately a couple friends didn’t make it because they heard the show was sold out. In the rush to get to Denver, I forgot my camera battery so didn’t take as many shots with my blackberry. It was my first time hitting up a premiere in two locations and getting a sense for the different vibes at each one. Beaver Creek was by far my favorite, the opera house was ideal for premiering a movie and the vibe was great, everyone was really into it. Denver was a bit different, I’ve never seen so many people get up for bathroom breaks during a 40 minute film in my life but some people […]

The Absinthe Films Sphere of Influence tour has been making it’s way around the globe to give snowboarders the opportunity to see their newest film Neverland on the big screen. Now it’s time for Colorado to get the pleasure of seeing Neverland up close and personal. This weekend are the big premieres in Fort Collins on Thursday night, Beaver Creek on Friday night and ending with Denver on Saturday night with rider appearances at each premiere and giveaways! I’ll be making my way down to Beaver Creek on Friday to enjoy a pre-premiere BBQ (life as a snowboard blogger has it’s perks and this is one of them, watch for twitter updates on Friday), then to the Beaver Creek premiere with friends to watch the film and end the night with the Afterparty at Loaded Joe’s in Avon. That’s only Friday! Then Saturday I’ll be in Denver to hit up the Absinthe premiere for a second time with friends. Two days of premieres and all the fun involved. I certainly hope to see you guys there, I’ll have shayboarder stickers on hand so come say hi if you see me at the premieres.
It’s that time of year when snowboard film teaser are coming out for the 09-10 season, getting you amped from a mini clip of what’s to come. The boys at Absinthe have been working hard on their new film, Neverland and it’s finally out with the teaser and full tour schedule so you can’t miss it. Neverland by Absinthe Films from Absinthe Films on Vimeo. From Absinthe Neverland is a state of mind, a mountain pushed up from the ground by imagination. Anyone can go but most people have trouble with the simple directions: Follow your dreams. This winter Absinthe dropped down the rabbit hole to explore this elusive place and brought back some mind bending tales and a pocketful of surprises. Travis Rice, Dan Brisse, Bode Merrill, Nicolas Müller, Sylvain Bourbousson, JP Solberg, Romain deMarchi, DCP, Marc Frank Montoya, Annie Boulanger, Marie-France Roy, Jules Reymond, Wille Yli-Luoma, Cale Zima, Phil Damianakes, Wolfgang Nyvelt, Kevin Pearce, Eero Ettala, Gigi Rüf and the rest of the Lost Boys continued down the road less traveled and explored some new possibilities during a winter that saw the progression of snowboarding take some giant strides. This place has everything….. come on, I show you. […]

I made my way into Denver yesterday to attend the Absinthe premiere of “Ready”, last years Absinthe “Optimistic” is one of my favorite movies to watch over and over because of the fun and epic riding and the people in it. On my way into town stopped by Never Summer to pick up some goodies. I may be a test rider but there is something sweet about getting to shop at a snowboard company. I came back with hoodies, t-shirts, hats and die-cuts. The film premiere was at the Starz Film Center in downtown Denver and I went with my friends Gary, Dina, and K at attend the film. We made it in and made sure to get our alcoholic beverages before heading down to the movie area. I was also able to meet and talk with Josh Smith who runs Absinthe PR side of things…big thanks for him for everything! Matt, JP and Romain signing posters for fans Marc Frank Montoya was also there signing autographs. My friend Dina asked who the pros were and when I said that was MFM, she replied with “he’s badass!” and so since he was a couple feet away he got to hear […]

As the list of teasers on snowboard-mag has been rapidly increasing…one was missing from the list until 2 days ago. The highly anticipated Absinthe film has made the list. Check out the Sphere of Influence Tour where you can find the 2008 Ready teaser, the premiere dates for the US and Europe and more information. If you have a hard time waiting till September for the premieres or dvd release, you can purchase previous Absinthe films here (including a triple pack of pop, saturation and futureproof for less than $30). I wrote a review of Optimistic? here. According to the press release the “new film features grimey lines, real deal shots and questionable decisions by some of today’s heaviest hitters” and after watching the teaser from the Monster heli to the variety of lines around the world, from deep powder to urban rails, you get a small taste of what’s to come. The riders representing this year is a lot of heavy hitters from previous films and some new flesh. Here’s the list of riders in Ready: Gigi Ruf, Jeremy Jones (big mountain), Kevin Pearce, JP Solberg, Scotty Lago, Romain DeMarchi, Mikey Leblanc, Keegan Valaika, Matt Beardmore, Matty Ryan, Cale […]

I finally bought myself a copy after seeing clips of it at Chad’s place over the last month. This is definitely my favorite film of the season that I have seen so far. Everything about it is fun with some really different styles of riding thrown in to the mix. The opening doesn’t leave you hanging by any means…watching Wolle Nyvelt rip it up in the back country throwing himself off huge burly terrain was amazing to watch. He must have huge balls…that’s really all I can say. I’ve never heard of his name before watching him and now I’m like damn…stoked on him! My favorite rider of the film and favorite riding segment was Gigi Ruf. Is there anything he can’t do? But seriously his riding was just really fun to watch, great terrain and awesome drops. Then he took it to the street and made a simple snowed sidewalk look like a terrain park. Other highlights were MFM’s roll through the Keystone park spraying gapers as they stand in front of rails/jumps and just overall in the way. It was awesome to see and i was dying laughing cause man…who hasn’t wanted to do that to some of […]
