I like creme brulee, salmon, and red wine. But, yeah… grew up in Texas and went to school for Fashion Design in Austin. I moved to Colorado almost 4 years ago so I could snowboard more and am still pretty happy about that decision. Other than snowboarding, I rock climb, wakeboard, ride bikes, drink beer at the local breweries, and in general try to keep moving. Oh, and I get stoked when I have an idea and I get to see it come to life. Shay: How has snowboarding changed your life? Suzanne: Growing up in Texas with a family whose idea of vacation was more beaches and sunshine than snow and apres-ski, I had no idea what I was missing. I was an avid […]

I first heard of Akinz while living in Colorado and what may have started in Texas has grown into a Colorado state of mind company. I’ve seen Akinz sponsor rail jams and parties in Steamboat but also support the snowboarders who have helped grow the company. I had one of my most fun nights at their Sunglasses at Night party back in Steamboat before I took off for the summer. Now they are onto their 6th year since beginning the brand and have come out with their 2011 softgoods gear to compliment this season. I caught up with Owner Suzanne about the 2011 Akinz line who said, “The last couple years of Akinz has been all about growth and change. In the past we’ve been really restricted as far as design styles because of production limitations. But as we’ve gotten a little bigger, it gives us the opportunity to do more unique cuts and more colorways instead of just one colorway in each design. What we’re really excited about is being able to do multiple fleece options this winter. There’s still a couple more fleece pieces headed to the site in the next month. Mainly we just want to aim […]

Founded in 2005, Akinz apparel began out of Texas by Suzanne Akin and kept growing as she moved to Colorado. With a wakeboarding and snowboarding focus, this smaller apparel company has found it’s own wings with their designs that are created in-house. Their motto is “find your wings” based upon finding something that moves and pushes you to reach for the sky…which is exactly what Akinz continues to do. Akinz offers a mix of softgoods including t-shirts, handmade beanies and jewelry to compliment the rider on and off the mountain. Suzanne continues to do the designs herself for the men’s and women’s lines, here’s just a couple of my personal favorites that support the Akinz cause. Cloud Cover Unisex T-shirt $19.00 [singlepic id=7309 w=300 h=340 float=] Umbrella Girl T-shirt $18.00 [singlepic id=7308 w=300 h=317 float=] Arsenic and Lace Bottlecap necklace $12.00 [singlepic id=7307 w=300 h=350 float=] This self funded company continues to introduce new designs and create their own Akinz style of life. You can check out Akinz on their website or join their social media movement at facebook and twitter.
