First Impression: The Coda continues to offer that all-mountain style of riding wherever you want to go. Weight: Average. Flex: The Coda is Arbor’s all-mountain riding snowboard with a medium flex and the mountain system to handle everything you want to ride. Overall it’s in the middle of the flex scale. The nose is a tad softer with a stiffer tail to allow for powering through turns. Torsionally it’s more responsive, quick edging and longitudinally it’s a bit stiffer to give you more power and stability on the mountain. First Impression: Offering up easy all mountain riding that you can count on. Weight: Average. Flex: The Swoon fits the medium flex description to a T. It’s longitudinally stiffer so you still have a stable ride down the mountain. The torsional flex between the bindings is a bit softer so you can get quick response from edge to edge. Overall it’s a pretty easy board to ride and isn’t too aggressive. The swoon has the mountain system reverse camber which has parabolic rocker which has more rocker in the center of the board and decreases the rocker to the tip and tail of the board. It’s designed for more mountain riding with the flex. Turning: Turning on the Swoon is easy to engage and an easy board to ride without being too intimidating. You could definitely just enjoy the ride without any consequences on this board. Easy turns on the longer drawn out S turns and when you wanted quick turns, you’d get them. Stable: The grip-tech noticeably helped on the icy hardpacked […]

Setup: I rode the Arbor Blacklist with my Union Team, Flux GU15 and GNU B-Famous bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 154cm. First Impression: Very fun and playful mid-wide park board without being a noodle Weight: Average. Flex: The Blacklist is on the softer side of the scale but not as soft as the Draft is in the Arbor line. The torsional flex feels softer and easier to maneuver thanks to the thinning core but it’s also softer on the nose/tail and offers some stability underfoot with a stiffer flex. Overall it’s soft but still rideable outside of the park if you prefer a easier more forgiving softer flexing board. The Blacklist features the Arbor Park System, a true parabolic rocker with the grip-tech sidecut. Turning: Despite the mid-wide width, the Blacklist was easy to engage and initiate into turns. I was most surprised by how it handled, short turns were easy on this board and you had pretty good response out of it. Definitely shorter radius turns were more comfortable on the board, long radius did fine. If the conditions were soft to hardpacked, the […]

Location: Mammoth, CA + Boreal, CA + Northstar, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to softpacked snow. Setup: I rode the Arbor Poparazzi with Union Atlas Team bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 152cm. First Impression: Camber isn’t dead – it feels too good to get back on it. Weight: Average Flex: On the softer side longitudinally with some stiffer flex underfoot so you still get good stability on the mountain. The softer flex is average to me, it’s not as soft as a rocker/reverse camber flex would be. It’s softer on the nose/tail, stiffer under the bindings and softer torsional between the bindings. Thanks to camber there’s good pop and snap to the board. The Poparazzi is a camber snowboard in the Arbor line-up. Turning: This board is easy to ride for camber. It has a blended tri-radial sidecut for tighter turning and stability. I found that no matter what type of turn it received, it handled it and adjusted accordingly. Although short turns were definitely fun to wiggle back and forth on. Overall the turning engagement was quick, easy and I didn’t encounter issues with the turning. Stable: There’s always a warm spot in my heart for camber. It’s […]

Size: 155cm. First Impression: Ideal for spring park laps. Weight: Average Flex: Definitely the softest men’s board in the Arbor line, it’s overall a soft jib board. The nose and tail are softer making for easy presses and just under the bindings you have a stiffer flex to help absorb jump landings. Torsionally, softer flex for quick edge to edge turning. In one of the photos below, you can see the flex of the board during a turn. The draft features the jib system which has parabolic rocker which has more rocker in the center of the board and decreases the rocker to the tip and tail of the board. Turning: A very forgiving easy to ride board from Arbor. It holds an edge very good despite the softer flex and the grip tech does help in those cases. The tri-radial sidecut helps on both long or short radius turns, making both types easy. The longer turns you had to work harder to hold the board to remain stable. The Draft got some time […]

Size: 155cm. First Impression: The new Swoon gives women a snowboard that goes along for the ride, wherever you ride. Weight: Average Flex: Medium flex all around on the swoon, longitudinally stiffer so you have a more stable ride and some torsional softness between the bindings that made it a bit more forgiving and easy to initiate edge to edge response. Softer nose to handle any powder on the board which it handled. The swoon has the mountain system reverse camber which has parabolic rocker which has more rocker in the center of the board and decreases the rocker to the tip and tail of the board. It’s designed for more mountain riding with the flex. Turning: The swoon is an easy board to engage onto edge, actually really easy to ride overall. Turning felt most comfortable on long drawn out turns but it could handle riding in the trees for shorter turns okay. If you weren’t paying attention, the swoon didn’t care, it’d just let you enjoy the ride. There […]

Since 1995, Arbor has been evolving their approach to snowboards over the years and derives influence from the skate, surf and art scene you can clearly seen in their snowboards. They continue to utilize environmental efforts in their snowboards with sustainable riding solutions while building next level technology. For 2012, Arbor continues to offer the System technology which gives riders combinations from jib, park, mountain in ten different models. Combined with the system, the boards feature grip tech which give an added contact point under foot for more direct edge control. Arbor also recognizes that true camber is not dead and keeps the icon collection (relapse, del rey, poparazzi) and roots collection (a-frame, roundhouse cx, element cx and push) standard camber. New boards in 2012 are the blacklist (a midwide park board), roundhouse RX (all-terrain with mountain system), swoon (women’s specific freeriding with mountain system) and relapse (mid-wide camber for park). You can also see their office tour from last year, you can check out what Arbor looks like behind the scenes.
Location: Mammoth, CA Snow Conditions: Mixture of hardpacked groomers to softpacked powder. Setup: I rode the Arbor Formula with my Union bastardized bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 155cm. First Impression: This is one of those boards that’s an easy forgiving ride for any level of rider and can be ridden anywhere on the mountain from park to powder to just groomers. Weight: average Flex: The formula’s flex is a very forgiving flex, softer torsionally so the rider eases into turns and tad stiffer from the bindings to the nose/tail with a longer nose. Overall the board is medium flex, it’s not a soft board and it’s not a stiff board. It handles the mountain but it is still very much a beginner-intermediate progression board, you could ride this board on day 1 or day 100 of your riding career and always feel comfortable on it. Turning: It was an easy forgiving ride from the second I stepped on it, just all around handled each turn and delivered initiation easier to the rider. The formula features a tri-radial sidecut which allows for all options for turning, whether you want a quick arc turn or just laying it out […]
