Location: Whistler, BC Snow Conditions: Bluebird with hardpacked ice in the morning and slush in the afternoon. Pivot was the 2nd board of the day, so it hit some ice and some softer snow. Setup: I rode the Atomic Pivot with Union Trilogy’s and my Rome Vamps size 8. First Impression: I was on the flat terrain with this board and was doing tail spins while holding a press. It was a lot of fun. Size: 156cm Weight: average Flex: The pivot has a good consistent medium flex from tip to tail, even thought it’s considered a freestyle board, the flex allows it to venture out of the park and still be rideable down the mountain. There’s a good amount of torsional flex making it quick responsive from edge to edge, but with the torsional flex you lose some stability on the longer drawn out turns. With the Pop Rocker FS, it gives it a more freestyle take so it’s still capable of pressing and buttering because of the softer flex on the board. Turning: Great responsive turns from this board, it was very quick on edge and initiated turns quickly and lets you really carve on edge and power […]

With Whistler having the on-snow demos, we hit up the mountain today to ride Whistler and partake in some 09-10 demos. Conditions on the mountain have been very icy in the mornings but getting slushy by the afternoon with the sun out each day. Stickering up the mountain along the way [singlepic id=5426 w=400 h=300 float=] Today’s demos included more companies and I ended up riding 4 snowboards today: Salomon Ivy, Atomic Pivot, Drake DF2 and Prior AMF rocker. [singlepic id=5427 w=400 h=300 float=] We had a lot of fun with Kendra riding the Stepchild Mustache Rider…a little too much fun with that board. [singlepic id=5428 w=400 h=300 float=] As the afternoon was underway met up with Dennis, a friend from Stevens Pass who came up for the Telus Festival weekend. He is in love with his Lib TRS so he chose not to ride any other boards during the day. [singlepic id=5429 w=400 h=300 float=] Ending the day at GLC enjoying beers and hanging with friends. [singlepic id=5430 w=400 h=300 float=] Tonight in the village is the Grenade Games Big Air which I’ll be taking photos and writing about.

Earlier this year I was able to spend the remainder of the season riding a Atomic prototype. At the time it was supposed to be a 08-09 release, but it got pushed back to being 09-10 release…and I get to say a little about it now. Each company has their own style of reverse camber and each one rides completely different. Atomic Snowboards is no exception to that and they created a snowboard that rides entirely different than the others. You’ll be able to check it out on the Atomic Pivot and Axum for 2009-2010 season, it won’t be the exact model I was riding…the flex will be changed but the shape will be the same. As for graphics you’ll have to wait and see! During the time I spent on this board I was able to ride it in a lot of variable conditions and honestly in late season riding this board was a bit too much for me…I let it ride me a couple times. It took a while to adjust to the shape and the varying sidecut of the board. One of the bigger issues with reverse camber is how these boards handle carving and being able […]
