Location: Winter Park, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to softpacked groomers. Setup: I rode the Bataleon Whatever with Union milan bindings and Vans Ferra boots size 8. Size: 159cm First Impression: Wow there’s no flat basing on this board, you are either carving or carving. Weight: average. Flex: The Whatever is on the more playful side of the spectrum but it offers a stiffer longitudinally flex so it feels more stable than you’d expect and it allows for more response when it comes to carving and fun playful pop for freestyle. Torsionally it’s softer which gives it quick edge to edge response for turns. The Whatever has freestyle TBT which has a symmetrical nose and tail TBT, medium wide center base is flat and it’s good for all around riding. Turning: I was not expecting the Whatever to be so quick and responsive when it came to turning. It was really quick to engage into turns and you pretty much were always in a carve on this board. It was a bit more aggressive in the carving, quick engagement and held each turn smoothly once in them but it was shocking how quickly you were on edge. Stable: The Whatever could […]

Location: Winter Park, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to softpacked to icy groomers. Setup: I rode the Bataleon Goliath with Flux RK30 bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 153cm. First Impression: Ride everything and ride it good, that’s the goliath. It was one of my top 3 boards of the demos. Weight: Average Flex: The goliath was on the mid range for flex, not the softest bataleon but not stiff like the enemy. It was the perfect flex for all mountain, still pressable on the nose and tail but tad stiffer between the bindings and underneath the bindings. Turning: In my notes I spoke of how amazing the S turns were on this board and I remember exactly how the lines were looking back uphill, just clean and smooth narrow lines. It was one of the best boards on carving and especially on my heelside turns which always aren’t so clean but the goliath was so good on edge. Easy to intiate into each turn and once on edge, it was just locked into the carve holding you into the perfect line. It required more effort for me getting from edge to edge but only because of the width, […]

Location: Whistler, BC Snow Conditions: Hardpacked and icy to new bumpy snow on the slopes. Setup: I rode the Bataleon Riot with my Union bastardized bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 155cm. First Impression: The Riot is always a favorite board to ride at the demo days…consistently great. Weight: average Flex: The riot is the middle of the road for flex, it’s not stiff except in the nose and tail of the board and it’s softer between the bindings that helps give it that all mountain capability. It required a bit more effort for presses/buttering but it definitely suits the stiffer side of park riding for pipe or jumps or just freeriding. Turning: TBT is a totally different thing when it comes to turning, it puts you on edge quickly and really lets you rally through carves down the mountain. It’s amazing for carving on and especially for me I don’t always carve every turn but the riot made every turn feel so much smoother and see the line in the snow after some turns. It’s easy to get on edge from the TBT and holds short and longer radius turns without problems. Stable: The riot had no […]
