Each year the snowboard magazines decide their top snowboard choices by designing boards tests built around various methodologies. Snowboard Magazine has their Platinum Pick describes as the “best of the best. Here you find out our choices for best jib boards, best powder boards and just plain best things…” The test is ultimately “not a product test, rather a look around the industry to see who is pushing design, materials, fashion and technology.” In fact they completely reach out and discuss product tests saying that it’s up to you, the rider, to determine if a board works for you…not some product test. So the platinum picks are really just top choices to consider for the upcoming year. I do wish for the sake of women’s snowboarding, that in the future there will be women’s models included. Of the 11 winning boards, I’ve only ridden five of the boards (some in previous years). The list is a mix of popular boards like the Machete, Cobra, Jamie Lynn Phoenix but also some new choices to consider like the Sims and Endeavor. The list also seems very focused on boards that aren’t just park or powder but a good all-mountain/freestyle collection mix. Snowboard […]

Each year hundreds of snowboard products are reviewed on Shayboarder.com but how do you know which ones stood out from the rest? That’s where the Top Picks come into play. Last year after much demand, I created the Shayboarder.com Top Picks in order to showcase the gear that ranks the highest out of reviews. On the right corner of a review, if you see this logo with the subhead underneath you’ll know that this board was a Top Pick and to be recognized for being AWESOME! Here are the 2013 Top Picks for Men’s and Women’s Snowboards. Jones Hovercraft The Hovercraft is Jones Snowboards powder board. The blunt nose and directional rocker keep you floating without having to ride the backseat, the camber underfoot and stiffer rear flex allow for the board to ride the groomers and harder conditions. But in all honestly, you just want to surf the pow with this board. It’s meant to ride open freshies with only its trail left behind. When I knew I was going to BC and AK, I immediately asked to bring the Hovercraft with me. It didn’t underestimate, it loved the powder and floated, surfed and made me smile a lot. Of the ten winning boards, I’ve ridden six of them (some in previous years). When I compare the results to last year’s test 8 out […]

Hundreds of snowboard products have been reviewed on Shayboarder.com but how do you give recognition to those that stand out from the rest of the pack? It was easy, I listened to your input on the recent survey for improvements and worked to create a way to showcase the gear that rank highest in reviews. This list of Top Picks will be constantly evolving and changing as the season progresses. Some might keep their title and others might lose it as more products get reviewed. I’m excited to develop this list and give some kind of credibility to the gear that have endured review time. This post will be at the top of the reviews list for easy access. Currently you’ll see only Top Picks on snowboards and bindings but eventually this will grow to include softgoods. [singlepic id=12328 w=300 h=298 float=] Starting today, this logo means you have found a Top Pick!
