Currently I am: Living beachside in San Clemente. Shay: Tell us a little bit about yourself Heather: I grew up in a little town called Penryn, CA, which is just outside of Tahoe. I spent my winters snowboarding Northlake to Southlake to Mammoth. Board sports were ingrained into my life from an early age, and later took up surfing while getting my B.A. from Humboldt State. I am an animal lover, artist and gypsy. Shay: How has snowboarding changed your life? Heather: Snowboarding is my first love, it’s a lifestyle not a hobby. A guaranteed smile. Shay: How did you get your start in the industry, who or what opened up more opportunities for you? Heather: My first “real” job in the industry was for Flow Snowboarding. I began as an intern, and then was asked to stay on to work in Marketing and Public Relations. This was an amazing start that opened up opportunities to meet industry professionals and seasoned pro’s. […]

I had spent Thanksgiving in Mammoth but an invite to Tahoe for the weekend was hard to turn down. We headed up on Friday night after a day of rest to visit the Tahoe family house and hang out with my brother’s extended family. Thanks to Jon at Boreal we were all able to spend today on the slopes skiing (while I rode) together. Boreal’s been building up the park more and more each visit, they now have top to bottom runs but also a smaller park and a bigger park. I started off in the small park, trying out the Arbor Poparazzi on the small boxes and then trying some features in the bigger park. The best part of the day was the warmth and sunshine on the mountain, easy laps through and some wait time for the lifts. Regardless it was less busy than I expected and a good way to spend a couple hours on the slopes. Tomorrow the plan is to head to Northstar on the way out of town back to Mammoth.

As I made my way up to Northern California to visit family, a stop at Boreal was the most logical choice for a detour. They opened in October for the season but I missed opening weekend since I was in San Francisco. Today it was an easy stop off the highway for a couple park laps with Dan since we both were in North Lake Tahoe for the day. A huge thanks to Jon in marketing for the passes for the day. To those not familiar with Boreal, it’s ideal for those who love park and jibbing. For today’s riding, they had three chairlifts open and two chairlifts were for park laps. It was a good mix of small to intermediate features on the mountain. Of course we forgot that it was a holiday and day off for many people so the parking lot was getting full when we arrived. It was a busy day on the slopes and even crazier how many people really sent it without thinking twice. For the top to bottom run, it meant avoiding the sitting ducks on the slopes and in the park, always keeping an eye out for anyone out of control. Definitely […]

Not sure what you are looking for here. [singlepic id=11877 w=300 h=400 float=] Shay: Tell us a little bit about yourself Jon: I claim North Carolina as home, even though I have now lived in California longer than I ever lived in NC. I spend 7 months a year looking forward to the 5 snowy months that we get in Tahoe. Even though I work at a “park” mountain, I love riding big mountain, and I get to Sugar Bowl or the backcountry at every opportunity. Shay: How has snowboarding changed your life? Jon: It took me from the East Coast of the states across the country to California, away from my family and friends back home, but has taken me to some amazing mountains with plenty of snow (66 feet this season!). I think about skiing/snowboarding 365 days a year and I have the chance to promote a sport that I truly love.
I am not a morning person especially when it involves waking up at 5:30am when everything is dark outside and everyone is asleep still. But the second I step on snow, it’s always worth it – It’s worth the 5:30am wake up call, the 6 hour roundtrip drive and the $30 to pay for a session of fun on the slopes. That was today at Boreal. It was my first time coming to Boreal and getting familiar with this new mountain that opened its lifts for the first turns in California. I had only seen Boreal from the highway (it’s right there, can’t miss it) but was excited to check out the terrain and get back on snow. Yesterday Boreal opened and today they had two chairlifts and two parks lines operating. Under Nugget chairlift there were 4 features: down box, down rail, flat down rail and wall ride. Under Castle Peak Quad were 10 features: 2 C-box’s, flat box, up flat down rail, tube, jump, wall ride, down rail and down box with a staircase inbetween. [singlepic id=10117 w=500 h=282 float=] I hit up the mountain with Daniel and Jeremy from Mammoth which was a blast and stoked to […]
