July is winding down but in Colorado there is still plenty of snow for summer shredding and the rail garden is the best I’ve seen it at the top of Breckenridge’s Peak 10. Today was my 100th day on snow for this year, reaching my goal and will continue onto more days at Mt Hood in August. I drove down and met at the usual friends place in Frisco before all of us piled into my truck for the drive up to Breckenridge. Today we had Lauren, Adrian, Scott, Max and myself in the fun shred day. When we arrived on top, it wasn’t long before more trucks pulled up of people we know. The rail garden has such a variety now, today was a 3 rail line that everyone was charging. [singlepic id=5833 w=500 h=333 float=] I spent the first part trying the frontside boardslides on the corrogated tube and felt better with it…even though I took one really good slam backwards. After that I worked on getting some shots of the better riders and will finish my rail mastering at Windell’s soon. I trust Scott when he rides so I took out the fisheye and […]

I’ve come to the conclusion that summer is nice for a couple weeks but having year round snow in places makes it hard when it comes to taking a summer off from riding, it’s almost impossible. Today we ventured back to Breck to hit up the snow rail garden. It’s been a rad summer with friends who want to shred the leftover snow, meeting new friends in the process and having old friends come back to town. Today our crew was 7 people from various areas of the state: Adrian, Lauren, K, Scott, Erik, Frank and myself. The road has been getting worse and this time with my truck crammed full of 7 people, it made it up but some bruised heads along the way. At the top we found that some awesome rails have made their way up to become a rail park for sessioning. A whole line up of boards: Never Summer, O-matic, Capita, GNU, Rome and Ride [singlepic id=5355 w=500 h=333 float=] A look at the diminishing snow/parking lot [singlepic id=5354 w=500 h=333 float=] Today was also a quite busy day with another crew enjoying the snow, boarders in our group and skiers in theirs.
The plan was to hit St Mary’s Glacier this weekend but we knew Breck had features set up and was less of a drive/hike to get to. I met up in Frisco with everyone (Lauren, Adrian and Scott), we packed our gear into the truck and headed back to 4th of July Bowl on the top of Breck for a shred session. When we arrived today there were more features set up. Now we had the tube, a double barrel rail, a metal pole, plastic tube set up on the log and a foam barrel used to cover the snowblowing hoses on the mountain. [singlepic id=5181 w=400 h=267 float=] Scott’s frontslide boardslide on the metal pole [singlepic id=5189 w=400 h=267 float=] Adrian on the plastic to log ollie’ing off [singlepic id=5184 w=400 h=267 float=] Lauren showing her rail skills [singlepic id=5185 w=400 h=267 float=] Scott ollied over and tail tapped the foam barrel [singlepic id=5187 w=400 h=267 float=] I’m not much of a rail rider, I hit the mini rails but I’m slowly getting back into getting comfortable on rails again. Lauren and Adrian are pushing me to be better and work on it. Today I spent some time hiking […]

Snow above 10,000 feet does stick around in the summer and it’s not hard to ride every month of the season if you are willing to hike or drive to find it. At the top of Peak 10 in Breckenridge is what’s known as 4th of July bowl, a riding location that consistently has year round shredable snow with 4WD access. Today was the day to finally enjoy the leftover snow from this season. I left Steamboat early this morning to meet friends in Frisco and head to our summer shred destination for a day of on-snow shredding. We weren’t sure how far we could make it up (last check the road wasn’t driveable to the top yet) but we were ready to ride whatever snow we found. [singlepic id=5141 w=400 h=300 float=] Our crew consisted of Lauren, Adrian, Scott, Eric and myself. My truck was the designated vehicle to suit the 4wd road and unfortunately Scott and Eric took the back of the truck for the bumpy rock climbing ride up to 12,000 ft (or more). When we arrived we found more people up there, some hiking to the top of peak 9 to ride down and […]
