I’ve been feeling under the weather but that didn’t stop me from heading down to Summit County for two days of riding. Friday was the perfect day to spend at Breckenridge and even though the crowds came out that couldn’t take away from the bluebird weather and fun being outside in the sun. I picked up Tom the skier on the way into Breckenridge and we hit up the mountain together, skier and snowboarder friendship. We parked in the free lot and took the shuttle over to the mountain. It was so warm by the time we arrive that I just wore my Burton windstopper hoodie over a t-shirt. Breckenridge from Peak 8 [singlepic id=6891 w=400 h=300 float=] I put aside the Ultrafear and took out the Signal Omni today to check it out on the hardpacked conditions at Breckenridge. I’ll definitely be putting a review up on it soon for everyone who inquired about it. [singlepic id=6892 w=400 h=300 float=] I still smile when I’m sick [singlepic id=6893 w=300 h=400 float=] Inside the fences of the park, riders waiting to drop into the jumps [singlepic id=6896 w=400 h=300 float=] We just lapped the Breck Terrain Park that’s set up.
Despite being a passholder for Vail Resorts, I tend to avoid the mountains in the early season because of the long lines but eventually I make my way there for the fun terrain. I’ve been feeling sick and running on little sleep, but I made my way to Breckenridge with Tom for an early day of shredding. Snowboarders and skiers can shred together in harmony. The best part of the friendship is using his poles or getting pulled on cat tracks. [singlepic id=6826 w=400 h=300 float=] Our goal was as many runs before the crowds arrive and leave when they do. There was a slight frosting of new snow overnight that made for some small powder turns on the mountain or groomers whichever you preferred. [singlepic id=6824 w=400 h=300 float=] It’s always nice seeing snow being blown for the superpipe [singlepic id=6825 w=400 h=300 float=] My own personal goal was to hit one feature and Breck’s parks right now are not baby features so for me to hit 1 was definitely do-able for myself. I ended up getting a couple 50-50’s on this feature to the left, the flat-down dance box.
July is winding down but in Colorado there is still plenty of snow for summer shredding and the rail garden is the best I’ve seen it at the top of Breckenridge’s Peak 10. Today was my 100th day on snow for this year, reaching my goal and will continue onto more days at Mt Hood in August. I drove down and met at the usual friends place in Frisco before all of us piled into my truck for the drive up to Breckenridge. Today we had Lauren, Adrian, Scott, Max and myself in the fun shred day. When we arrived on top, it wasn’t long before more trucks pulled up of people we know. The rail garden has such a variety now, today was a 3 rail line that everyone was charging. [singlepic id=5833 w=500 h=333 float=] I spent the first part trying the frontside boardslides on the corrogated tube and felt better with it…even though I took one really good slam backwards. After that I worked on getting some shots of the better riders and will finish my rail mastering at Windell’s soon. I trust Scott when he rides so I took out the fisheye and […]

I’ve come to the conclusion that summer is nice for a couple weeks but having year round snow in places makes it hard when it comes to taking a summer off from riding, it’s almost impossible. Today we ventured back to Breck to hit up the snow rail garden. It’s been a rad summer with friends who want to shred the leftover snow, meeting new friends in the process and having old friends come back to town. Today our crew was 7 people from various areas of the state: Adrian, Lauren, K, Scott, Erik, Frank and myself. The road has been getting worse and this time with my truck crammed full of 7 people, it made it up but some bruised heads along the way. At the top we found that some awesome rails have made their way up to become a rail park for sessioning. A whole line up of boards: Never Summer, O-matic, Capita, GNU, Rome and Ride [singlepic id=5355 w=500 h=333 float=] A look at the diminishing snow/parking lot [singlepic id=5354 w=500 h=333 float=] Today was also a quite busy day with another crew enjoying the snow, boarders in our group and skiers in theirs.
