Location: Keystone, Colorado Snow Conditions: Snowing with powder on runs, some groomed areas. Setup: I rode the Burton Hero with Burton Molotov bindings and my Rome Vamps size 8. First Impression: Varying information on whether it changed from 08-09 to 09-10, I heard it was the same from the demo reps but catalog says the flex scale changed, after I rode it…it didn’t feel like the flex had changed. Size: 155cm Weight: lighter than average Flex: The hero is stiffer between the bindings with a softer scoop nose and tail, making it easy to press and butter but also holds well when freeriding. V-rocker is a 3 point rocker, between the bindings and on the nose and tail at the contact points making it less likely to catch and with the rocker between the feet, easy to press. Turning: The hero is impressive on edge, holds an edge for carving and quick response edge to edge. It never felt like it would catch an edge or be overly aggressive. Whether it has a long radius turn or short radius, the board was capable of each turn at slow speeds and faster speeds. The PDE definitely helps with the edgehold at […]

2008-2009 Burton Hero Location: Loveland, Colorado Snow Conditions: Snowing with hardpacked groomers to icy groomers to fresh snow on the runs. Setup: I rode the Burton Hero with Burton Escapade bindings and my Vans Omni Focus size 8. First Impression: ooh this is another fun board Size: 155cm Weight: lighter than average Flex: It felt stiffer underneath and between the bindings, definitely softer nose and tail. I was expecting a really soft board, but got a board that could be rode anywhere…freeriding or freestyle with the flex. Nose and tail were easy to press on. Turning: Hands down…really good for carving. Probably the most noticeably best for holding an edge, staying stable on the edge and just laying it over. I never felt like I could even get close to catching an edge, which was nice…even in rougher spots. I’ll definitely vouch on PDE (Pressure Distribution Edge) being something to consider, I had some fun with it and never felt like the board was in control (like mtx) and had the rider control but with more increased edge hold. Stable: I thought it charged, good for just hauling and going fast with. I didn’t feel any squirrely -ness or unstable […]
