Location: Mammoth, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy conditions. Setup: I rode the Burton Lip-Stick with Burton Stilletto bindings and Vans Ferra boots size 8. Size: 149cm. First Impression: Flat Top definitely suits the Lip-Stick! Weight: Average. Flex: Now that the Lip-Stick is a Flat Top, the board still offers a fun playful park flex for the ladies. It’s softer on the nose and tail where you get the playfulness of rocker but with the stiffer flex between the bindings to give you stability on the flat profile. Easier torsional flex to make turning easier. The Lip-Stick LTD for next year comes with Flat Top which is a flat profile between the feet for better stability and a tail/tip kick up with early rise for playfulness. Turning: The Lip-Stick was quick and on point with turning. The Flat Top still let it be an easy board to flex and maneuver into each turn. The Lip-Stick could handle the longer drawn out S turns but also was very good torsional flex but quick shorter turns. Stable: This is where the Flat Top excels from previous years. The board can handle and grip on the icy hardpacked conditions despite being a park softer […]

Location: Mammoth, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy conditions. Setup: I rode the Burton Aftermath with Burton Malavita Restricted bindings and Vans Ferra boots size 8. Size: 155cm. First Impression: I was warned this board is aggressive and stiff for a park board but dang it’s fun! Weight: Average. Flex: For a park board, the Aftermath is on the stiffer end of freestyle riding. It’s built for jumps, hard landings and can handle the freeriding. Stiffer nose/tail and underfoot the bindings with a torsionally softer flex between the bindings. The Aftermath is traditional camber and rides consistenly and aggressively with it. Turning: The Aftermath was consistent on carving thanks to camber and really just a feel good board for turning. It could handle long radius turns much better in my opinion, shorter turns weren’t as quick but still capable just took a bit more to maneuver the board into them. Stable: The stiffer park flex and camber helped the board for stability on the mountain. Conditions were icy to hardpacked and the Aftermath had no problem holding an edge on the icy spots. On jumps, the board took landings with ease especially when the snow started getting bumped out. Pop: Full […]

Location: Mammoth, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy conditions. Setup: I rode the Burton Nug with Burton Scribe bindings and Vans Ferra boots size 8. Size: 142cm. First Impression: As long as I don’t look down, I feel pretty good on this thing and it’s just plain fun to ride. Weight: Average. Flex: The Nug offers up the mountain in a smaller size and playfulness in big doses. The Nug is a medium flex board but with the softer nose and tail combined with V-rocker and stiffer flex underfoot, you get a board that’s playful but can still handle turns and the rest of the mountain. Torsionally it’s a bit softer which makes it easy to get quick response for each turn. The Nug has V-rocker, a centered rocker between the feet and additional rockers outside each foot that lift the tail and tip completely off the snow. Turning: Handled with quickness and response for shorter radius turns while still able to do a long drawn out turn down the slopes. The effective edge on the board rides like a longer board so you don’t feel like you are on a board that can’t turn. The frostbite edges did good holding […]

Location: Mammoth, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy groomers. Setup: I rode the Burton Nug with Malavita bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 146cm. First Impression: Holy tinyness…10cm less than what you normally ride Weight: average. Flex: I was expecting a board similar to the signal park rocker, just straight up soft but the nug definitely still offers up the mountain to you. The flex had good torsionally flex so you still had quick edge to edge response and the smaller size made maneuverability so easy on the board. The overall flex longitudinally, it rode like a longer board when going faster and building up speed. The Nug features Burton’s V-rocker with a center rocker between the feet and additional rockers outside each foot that lift the tail and tip completely off the snow. The V-rocker definitely suits the Nug and gives it more of that park jib inspired feeling. Turning: The nug was easy to get on edge and maneuver from edge to edge down the mountain. Turns were quick when you wanted them but also you could make long drawn out turns and hold it steady the entire carve. The nug definitely was believable for riding […]

Location: Breckenridge, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy conditions on the mountain. Setup: I rode the Burton Ration with Burton lexa bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 155cm. First Impression: Wow, I’ve actually found a board that’s meant to go straight and hit rails. Weight: Average Flex: The ration was medium flex from tip to tail and a stiffer torsional flex so it was difficult to engage on edge into turns and every turn felt skidded on the mountain. The flex wasn’t as playful as I was expecting for a park board. I usually always enjoy going back to camber boards but this was one example where the camber didn’t make it a stable ride nor a board I’d want to keep riding. Turning: It was very sluggish edge to edge and every turn felt like it never wanted to remotely turn, it was pulling teeth to get it on edge and I couldn’t even carve with the board. I was really disappointed with how it turned because it felt like I was riding a toboggan down the mountain and I’m not Mikey Leblanc on a toboggan. Stable: It was the least stable board I’ve been on, not because […]

Location: Breckenridge, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy conditions on the mountain. Setup: I rode the Burton Feelgood Flying V with Burton Lexa bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 155 First Impression: This is the perfect board for Flying V, all-around riding for any level female rider Weight: Average Flex: I noticed the flex was stiffer than last year’s V-rocker and not as playful but it made up for it with stability and charging the runs. Softer flex between the feet, tad stiffer tip and tail and stiffer underfoot where the camber zones were located. It was still easy to torsionally flex the board and you got quick edge to edge response but once on edge, the carbon I-beam helped it rally through a carve with stability. It felt more like a freeride board than in previous years but with a all mountain handling. The Flying V gives it reverse camber, V-rocker between the feet, underneath your feet are camber zones and rocker outside your feet to the tip and tail. Turning: My notes had a couple exclamation points when it came to carving, the feelgood flying V was quick edge to edge and once on edge, […]

Location: Loveland, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy conditions on the mountain. Setup: I rode the Burton Lip-stick with my Burton Lexa bindings and Bonfire Geo boots. Size: 154cm. First Impression: A stellar women’s park board that is the definition of playing on the mountain. Weight: Average Flex: The Lip-stick was definitely a tad stiffer between the bindings and softer on the nose and a tad stiffer tail making it really an easy ride. The edge to edge was still quick and you could torsionally flex the board to get into quicker turns but it’s still overall on the soft side of the flex scale and it’s meant for park. The lip-stick is V-rocker, so a 3-stage rocker with one rocker between the feet and rockers outside of the foot to raise up the contact points. Turning: The lip-stick is a very easy board to manuever on the mountain, it’s forgiving and easy to go on edge with. For a park board it handles freeriding decently but I wouldn’t expect to charge and rally turns on this board, it can hold turns on the mountain but the quicker short radius turns felt better for me than the long drawn out […]

Location: Loveland, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy conditions on the mountain. Setup: I rode the Burton Feelgood V-rocker with my Burton Lexa bindings and Bonfire Geo boots. Size: 154cm. First Impression: The Feelgood and V-rocker go hand in hand, this board is better from it. Weight: Average Flex: The Feelgood had a softer tail flex with a tad stiffer nose and middle of the road for flex between the bindings, it was easy to torsionally flex the board and the Carbon I-beam gave it more snap and stability. From previous years, the feelgood felt tad softer in the overall flex but that could have been the addition of the rocker that gave it that feeling. It’s still that all mountain freestyle board that I think any rider could ride. Turning: The feelgood was one of those boards that it can ride as good as the rider, if you need easy turns it’ll do them without catching but if you want to rally on a carve and go faster, it can hold them as well. Despite the slightly wider shape, I didn’t find that being an issue with the edge to edge response on the board.
