Location: Keystone, CO Snow Conditions: Softpacked to hardpacked groomers to fresh snow on the mountain. Setup: I rode the Burton Escapade Bindings on every snowboard this season but mostly the NS Lotus/Thrive Renegade with my Ride Cadence boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: Average time to set up on the board. Fit: My size 8 boots fit in the large women’s bindings with good width, functionality and comfort. First Impression:Response combined with forgiveness and movement in the Escapades this year…perfect for riding all conditions, all the time. Appearance: I love blue so having the Burton Escapade’s in the blue colorway is exactly what I wanted. Very bright, fun with subtle designs to it. Comfort: The Escapades are all about comfort. Good padding in the baseplate cover to the highback and straps. No pressure points and it keeps my feet without pain on the mountain. Functionality: The Burton Escapades are compatible with my traditional 4×4 snowboards, I haven’t used the bindings on a Burton board yet and they are holding up just fine when switching from board to board on the traditional pattern with the right plate. The bindings feature the AutoCANT fullbed dual density EVA cushioning to […]

When the Dew Tour rolled into Breckenridge, I had the opportunity to sit down with Danny Davis to find out more about the new 2012 Green Mountain Project outerwear collection. The outerwear will utilize fabric made from recycled plastic bottles. It’s part of the next phase of the Burton x Mountain Dew partnership which works perfectly since Danny Davis is a sponsored rider of both brands and committed to improving sustainability. For 2013, this vision expands with the launch of the GMP outerwear collection, which includes three stylish and eco-friendly jackets and two pants for men, and two jackets and one pant for women, all featuring fabric created from the pellets of recycled bottles. In addition, the collection also implements recycled and natural blended materials that have a lower impact on the environment whenever possible, such as GMP Hemp Fortex, 3MTM ThinsulateTM insulation with recycled fibers, DRYRIDE EcoNanoshellTM 2L Fabric and 3-Layer Hemp Ripstop Fabric and recycled taffeta and mesh linings. Once inside the Mountain Dew RV, I sat face to face with Danny to check in on his season so far, thoughts on the outerwear and what he plans for his next step in snowboarding. He walked in on […]

Intended Purpose: The Burton AK 2L Cyclic Jacket delivers a lightweight shell with Gore-Tex to stay protected from the elements. Fit: The 2L Cyclic Jacket is designed to mimic the body’s natural movements so it’s not as loose fitting as other models in the Burton line. I found the fit fine if I didn’t need any layering underneath but on the tight side if I did layer up on the colder days. I probably should have sized up for my more loose baggy comfort that I like. Appearance: I received the AK Cyclic jacket in the smurf colorway which is a mix of black, blue and grey in one jacket. It was a popular colorway since it was very neutral colors but also not too boring on the mountain. I still like the brighter designs that Burton puts out. Features: The 2L Cyclic Jacket featuresa two layer Gore-Tex performance shell and Gore-Seam that’s guaranteed to keep you dry. The waterproofing rating is 28k and breathability is 20k. The jacket features pit zips, jacket to pant interface, fully taped seams, removable waist gaiter, Riri Aquazip water-resistant zippers, fixed hood, taffeta and mesh inner lining, 2 microfleece-lined handwarmer pockets, 1 chest pocket […]

Location: Winter Park, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to softpacked groomers. Setup: I rode the Burton Genesis on the Burton Root with my Vans Ferra Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: Pretty normal time to set up the bindings. Fit: I don’t remember what size the Genesis bindings were, either a small or medium for the men’s. The baseplate fit was fine and the ankle strap fit was good, the toe strap was tight and fit but definitely showed the boot was smaller than it should be. Overall fit was decent on the binding but mostly due to my using women’s boots. First Impression: Crazy fun and a bit more movement/support than you are used to. Appearance: The Genesis EST bindings come with the day and night colorway. It’s not very flashy but isn’t meant to be, just the opposites attract and let the tech do the talking kind of binding look. Comfort: Super comfortable binding, good cushioning in the baseplate and padding on the highback. Both of the straps were comfortable, the ankle strap didn’t have much to it but molded great to my boot. Functionality: The Genesis bindings feature a new dual-component EST featuring the hinge […]

Location: Winter Park, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to softpacked groomers. Setup: I rode the Burton Root with Burton Genesis bindings and Vans Ferra boots size 8. Size: 144cm First Impression: Want something more all mountain than the Nug, this is it. Weight: Average. Flex: The Root continues where the Nug left off. Similar in flex, it’s medium with a tad softer nose and tail for playfulness. Torsionally it’s softer, easier to get response from. The Root has flat top technology, a flat profile between the feet for stability, better balance and continuous edge control. The tip and tail kick off with an early rise for catch free. The Flat Top makes it noticeably a bit more stable for handling than the Nug with V-rocker. Turning: Easy to engage into turns and get quick response out of. Easy to get into short radius turns and did a decent job at handling longer radius turns. The effective edge on the Root rides like a longer board so it doesn’t really feel like you are on a 144cm short board. Stable: The Root definitely handled on the mountain for stability, it didn’t feel like a 143cm board. Cruised well, turned well and for […]

Location: Mammoth, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy conditions. Setup: I rode the Burton Feelgood Flying V with Burton Diode bindings and Vans Ferra boots size 8. Size: 155cm. First Impression: Continues to be a great board for all mountain female riders Weight: Average. Flex: Softer torsional flex between the bindings so the board is super easy to turn but stiffer flex underneath and towards the tip/tail for stability for freeriding. The carbon I-beam definitely helps for the pop and stability so you can charge the mountain. The Feelgood comes with camber or flying V, I rode the Flying V model with reverse camber. V-rocker between the feet and underneath the feet is camber zones and rocker towards the tip and tail. Turning: The Feelgood has always been a responsive carving board and quick to get edge to edge while riding. On the softer snow, it really held an edge into each turn and offered up a good mix of turns without any catches or problems. On shorter turns, it was quick and nimble. On the icy spots, I had an issue with the board holding an edge and not slipping out but that was the only issue with it […]

Time to set up the binding: This was an easy set up for my boots. Probably one of the easier bindings to get going and didn’t require much adjustment. Fit: I tried the Stiletto bindings in the larges which were a good fit for my boots. The straps are super padded and look big on my boots but offer a good amount of support. First Impression: The Stilettos are a really easy going binding, definitely a great progressive choice for women. Appearance: The Stilettos I tried were the Lime Drop colorchoice. They are really fun, bright and youthful looking with flowers and the mix of lime/yellow in the binding. Comfort: The Stilettos take on the comfort of the higher end Burton bindings to the max level. They are super comfortable, padded to the extreme and make you feel like you are attached to pillows. Functionality: The Burton Stilettos come with the 3D curved Lushstrap for the ankle strap and Prima Capstrap for the toe strap.
Location: Mammoth, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to icy conditions. Setup: I rode the Burton Lip-Stick with Burton Stilletto bindings and Vans Ferra boots size 8. Size: 149cm. First Impression: Flat Top definitely suits the Lip-Stick! Weight: Average. Flex: Now that the Lip-Stick is a Flat Top, the board still offers a fun playful park flex for the ladies. It’s softer on the nose and tail where you get the playfulness of rocker but with the stiffer flex between the bindings to give you stability on the flat profile. Easier torsional flex to make turning easier. The Lip-Stick LTD for next year comes with Flat Top which is a flat profile between the feet for better stability and a tail/tip kick up with early rise for playfulness. Turning: The Lip-Stick was quick and on point with turning. The Flat Top still let it be an easy board to flex and maneuver into each turn. The Lip-Stick could handle the longer drawn out S turns but also was very good torsional flex but quick shorter turns. Stable: This is where the Flat Top excels from previous years. The board can handle and grip on the icy hardpacked conditions despite being a park softer […]

Time to set up the binding: This was a pretty quick setup to get going thanks to the knowledgable demo guy. He grabbed the Nug, the Scribe bindings and set me up with the right stance, angles and fit the bindings to my boots. Fit: I tried the Scribes in the mediums which fits my boots but are snugger in the heel of the boot. The toe straps are a bit more bulky but fit over the toe of my boot fine. First Impression: The Scribes offer up a comfy all mountain ride with a wider ankle strap. Appearance: The Scribes I tried out came in the black colorway which are pretty simple for design. Most of the binding is black and says Scribe on the front of the binding. There’s very simple gold colorway on the Scribe text. Comfort: The Scribes are a super comfortable binding, good padding on the baseplate and highback. Setup: I rode the Burton Diode bindings on the Burton Feelgood Flying V with my Vans Ferra Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: This setup was average time to set up for the demo. Once we knew the size, it was easy to get it dialed and mounted to the aftermath with the EST/ICS system. Fit: My size 8 women’s boots worked fine in the small Diode bindings for fit. The straps worked with my boots and there was no extra width in the bindings. First Impression: Holy hell, these highbacks aren’t a joke. Appearance: I rode the re:flex Diode’s so they came in the blue/black color option. It’s mostly a black binding with some blue ratchets and a highback with blue on the outside and blue polka dots on the inside. It’s a pretty slick binding in the design. Comfort: The Diode’s in my opinion aren’t as padded or comfortable as the malavita’s.
