Location: Mission Ridge, WA Snow Conditions: Softpacked to fresh snow on groomers. Setup: I rode the Capita DBX with Union Trilogy bindings and Vans Ferra boots size 8. Size: 157cm First Impression: The Dan Brisse Capita pro-model delivers a board that rides the whole mountain, packed with pop and built for fun freeriding. Weight: Average. Flex: The DBX is on the stiffer side of the spectrum, similar to the TFA for flex but a bit more lively in the riding and handling. The bamboo core gives the board a different feel than the TFA but it has the same TFA shape. Flex is described as a 7 and rides like it, stiffer flex longitidinally to help with charging, somewhat softer torsional flex but not by much. The DBX features freeride FK which is camber between the outside inserts, reverse camber outside of the bindings and wah-pow on the nose and tail. Turning: I got out on the DBX for the last board of the day and found the handling on turning was very much like the TFA I had ridden in past years. Which was great, it could grip the mountain and handle the choppy end of day conditions. The directional […]

Location: Snoqualmie Summit, WA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to softpacked to heavy leftover powder. Setup: I rode the Capita Indoor Survival FK with Union Force bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 156cm. First Impression: I forgot what NW concrete felt like but the Indoor didn’t. Weight: Average Flex: Overall a playful board with the reverse camber on the Indoor Survival but the longitudinal flex gives it stability and there’s a good amount of torsional give so you have quick response. It packs a powerful punch when you take it riding and delivers with a 5 on the Capita flex scale (which I completely agree on). It’s not as stiff as the BSOD and it’s not as soft as the horrorscope. The Indoor Survival FK features freestyle flat kick technology which is a level base from outside insert to outside insert then reverse camber from outside inserts to contact points then wah-pow on the nose/tail. Turning: I had forgotten how responsive this board is on edge and carving but quickly remembered with the conditions because in the heavy concrete snow, too much edge meant possibly eating shit. Luckily the FK is forgiving on the board or I would have gone […]

Location: Stevens Pass & Snoqualmie Pass, WA Snow Conditions: Sunny bluebird skies with hardpacked groomers. Setup: I rode the Capita Quiver Killer with Union Force bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 155cm. First Impression: It’s been a couple years since riding the MHT/FCG now the Quiver Killer but it’s still the same good consistent ride down the mountain. Weight: Average Flex: The quiver killer has a stiffer longitudinal flex from tip to tail which makes it a stable ride down the mountain for freeriding but you have quicker response edge to edge from the torsional flex so you can really get into each turn on the slopes. To be honest this board and camber go hand in hand, it’s still capable of fun with some bounce. Turning: One of the surprises about the quiver killer is the quick edge to edge response, it’s a fast board to get on edge and you can pop out of one turn into the next. Once on edge it’s consistent, there are no surprises and it won’t buck you out of a turn. Whether doing long or short radius turns, you have the control over the board and it’ll give you what […]
