Location: Winter Park, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to softpacked groomers. Setup: I rode the Capita DOA with Union Contact Pro bindings and Vans Ferra boots size 8. Size: 156cm. First Impression: Stability of camber meets the fun of freestyle. DOA just like the film keeps snowboarding fun and flowing for the mountain. Weight: Average. Flex: The DOA is that all-around board, for the freestyle riders. It’s in the middle of the flex spectrum, not as stiff as the BSOD/TFA and not as soft as a jib stick like the Horrorscope. It’s built for park riding but can handle the riding outside of park and it gives freestyle riders a chance to ride a mix of camber. Torsionally it’s a bit more stable and stiffer between the bindings but then on the tip and tail a lot more playful with a softer easier to press flex. Longitudinally it’s got some snap and kick to it, it’ll handle quick turns and won’t make you feel like you are riding a donkey down the mountain. The DOA features hybrid FK, a mix of freeriding stability that meets park progression. It features a camber zone between the bindings, zero camber just outside the bindings […]

For more than a decade, Capita Snowboards has been building, designing and devouring snowboards with a brand image that sticks out from the rest of the crowd. Highly regarded for their captivating snowboard graphics, they’ve remained a top company in snowboarding without losing their roots. They continue to grow with their technology, team additions and awesomeness in snowboarding. For 2013, Capita teams up with Volcom to create the Dan Brisse pro-model and women receive a freeride FK board with the Birds of a Feather FK. They continue to build boards with a range of options from traditional camber to pow FK to freeride FK to zero camber to freestyle and urban FK. Capita The Black Snowboard of Death This one board is all you need to attack any situation. The Black Snowboard of Death integrates camber where you need it for power and stability through variable terrain with reverse camber where you want it for control in powder conditions. Features freeride FK, P2 superlight core, custom weave basalt fiberglass configuration, 4x20mm basalt v-tech reinforcements, wax infused rotation sintered speed base, new age directional sidecut with death grip, silkscreened and die cut base graphics, PLT topsheet technology, 360 degree steel edges, […]

Location: Snoqualmie Summit, WA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked to softpacked to heavy leftover powder. Setup: I rode the Capita Indoor Survival FK with Union Force bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 156cm. First Impression: I forgot what NW concrete felt like but the Indoor didn’t. Weight: Average Flex: Overall a playful board with the reverse camber on the Indoor Survival but the longitudinal flex gives it stability and there’s a good amount of torsional give so you have quick response. It packs a powerful punch when you take it riding and delivers with a 5 on the Capita flex scale (which I completely agree on). It’s not as stiff as the BSOD and it’s not as soft as the horrorscope. The Indoor Survival FK features freestyle flat kick technology which is a level base from outside insert to outside insert then reverse camber from outside inserts to contact points then wah-pow on the nose/tail. Turning: I had forgotten how responsive this board is on edge and carving but quickly remembered with the conditions because in the heavy concrete snow, too much edge meant possibly eating shit. Luckily the FK is forgiving on the board or I would have gone […]

10 years ago, Capita Snowboards began their journey and as I’ve watched them grow in those 10 years they’ve never lost who they are. Their symbolism, their passion and their appreciation of customers is what drives the company into creating boards that people come back for. They’ve endured rough years, great years, award winning years and they continue to understand what makes their boards popular to the rider. Their team truly represents the company to the core, rides the gear and make it better. Congrats for 10 years! Two years ago they introduced Flat Kick Technology, expanding it through the line last year and last year added powder FK to the mix. This year they add in Freeride FK to their 10 year anniversary Black Snowboard of Death (yes the skull is back!). In addition to their Flat Kick, they continue with the traditional camber in the boards meant to have camber on the mountain. Lastly they have added the micro-scope, a kids reverse camber board with a convex shape.
Location: Steamboat, CO Snow Conditions: Hardpacked conditions on the mountain. Setup: I rode the Capita Sierrascope with Union bastardized bindings and Bonfire Geo boots. Size: 152cm. First Impression: The sierrascope is a collaboration between sierra snowboards and capita snowboards, sometimes collabs can make a product that is a great deal and a great ride…this is one of them. Weight: Average Flex: Just like the indoor, the sierracope has a softer nose and tail with stiffer flex between the bindings from the carbon X stringers. It makes it really stable between the feet and a tad playful on the nose and tail with the help of the flat kick. Stiffer torsional flex which I found doesn’t make it to difficult to go edge to edge but helps with the stability when riding and especially in halfpipe. It’s not as playful as the horrorscope or ultrafear by any means. Capita’s Flat Kick technology had zero camber between the bindings and then kicks up towards the nose and tail. Turning: It’s easy to get on edge and despite the stiffness between foot it doesn’t make you work harder to get it into turns. Turn initiation is super easy and doesn’t throw any surprises […]

I first heard about Capita Snowboards through word of mouth while I was working at a snowboard shop in Seattle and I took a chance by purchasing my first Capita without knowing how it rode or anything about it. I found out that I was supporting local snowboarders and when I needed help understanding their Freedom Groove mounting system, Blue Montgomery met me in the parking lot of Stevens Pass to mount my bindings to my new Capita snowboard so that I could spend that day on snow enjoying my new snowboard. It’s because of Blue that I continue to support Capita Snowboards and yes I even named my dog after the snowboard company. Blue created a lifelong customer out of me that day in the parking lot and I support them because of it. I applaud Capita for 10 years of hard work and compassion to snowboarders…it’s been great to see their journey and I can’t wait to see more of them in the future. [singlepic id=7366 w=500 h=301 float=] Years later, they have made their name, created a following and a brand that people continue to identify with. Setup: I rode the Capita Ultrafear FK with my Union Force SL’s and my Bonfire Geo boots. First Impression: This is my kind of porridge, just right for shredding…not insanely soft but not insanely stiff…still a fun deck to ride. Size: 155cm Weight: lighter than average Flex: The Ultrafear FK is an upgraded horrorscope, the core plays a huge part in the flex differences between the boards. The Ultrafear is stiffer than the horrorscope and gives it a more stable feel freeriding with. The longitudinal flex feels a tad stiffer and torsionally it’s a tad stiffer but between both there’s a lot of play to it, you can still get quick sharp turns that are stable and you can still butter and play with the nose and tail of the board. It’s not as easy to butter as the horroscope but it still is playful. But overall this board is not a stiff ride, it’s a good medium flex board and just so happens to be stiffer than the horrorscope but softer than the Indoor Survival from my experiences riding them.
