My visit to the northwest timed perfectly with a sunday funday at Stevens Pass to help close out their 09-10 season. I woke up bright and early to meet up with my friends Anj and Niko in Seattle at 7:30am with just enough time to get coffee for the drive. The skies remained blue all day and warm weather greeted us once we arrived on the mountain. The Closing Day festivities combined with sunny skies brought up a good amount of people for the day. I was stoked because I would get to see a bunch of people and make turns with them today. [singlepic id=8760 w=400 h=300 float=] Unfortunately the big pond skimming event was cancelled this year. As they were filling up the water, they noticed a hole in the plastic lining. I guess someone had some fun last night and ended up ripping a hole in the pond. Such a bummer but you know what, it was still a fun day snowboarding without the pond skimming. [singlepic id=8758 w=400 h=300 float=] You know when you see women lined up at the pool flipping over for their tan lines, I’ve never seen the men do it until today […]

If there’s ever a depressing sad day in Colorado, it’s when Loveland closes. There is so much snow and for the last two seasons closing day at Loveland has been a powder day. We got 3 inches of new snow today to enjoy. We also had fun BBQing and hanging out. [singlepic id=5127 w=400 h=267 float=] Today’s crew was Lauren, Adrian and Gags. We also met up with a couple others and some new people to ride with. [singlepic id=5128 w=400 h=300 float=] It was packed in the parking lot today but the best part about Loveland is no lines on a packed day, everyone gets spread out on the mountain so you never have to deal with insane lines. [singlepic id=5129 w=400 h=267 float=] New snow fell overnight and opened up some fresh turns to be made, it wasn’t the best of powder but it was powder turns in May. We headed across the mountain to chair 8 to enjoy the goods. Lauren was kind enough to take the camera from me on one of the runs and take photos of me riding down through some of the new snow. Since I’m usually the one behind the […]

Last night was my first night back to Steamboat in a couple days so lots of laundry and finishing up packing my snowboard bag (hopefully under 50lbs) for Whistler tomorrow. This morning I slept in and hit the road to ride Breckenridge with friends. Today was Breckenridge’s closing day on the mountain. The storm from Friday and Saturday passed through, making today a bluebird and warm day on the slopes. The first lap was made with Joel and Bru as they were ending the day. [singlepic id=5575 w=400 h=300 float=] Bru showing off his gaper gap [singlepic id=5576 w=400 h=300 float=] I met up with Tj, Steph and a couple others to make laps. I noticed this guy wearing the nacho libre wrestler mask and Steph got in the photo with him. The guy rode like that down the mountain. [singlepic id=5577 w=400 h=300 float=] A ducked rope and found ourselves in some leftover powder to ride and then had to get back under. [singlepic id=5578 w=400 h=300 float=] I got the Park Rocker to be my spring board for short runs at A-Basin because it’s just a lot of fun. Today I ended up riding it to check […]

The season ended at Steamboat today with closing day for mountain operations. With over 400 inches this year was a good year, plenty of powder days to make me happy and a fun winter in the boat. Steamboat 4/12/09 from Shayboarder on Vimeo. 5 inches fell on upper mountain in the last 24 hours, but with warm temperatures and rain on lower mountain it didn’t make the conditions great for today. Low visibility, choppy leftover snow and some good spots. [singlepic id=5669 w=400 h=300 float=] Off the Storm Peak chairlift is a bra tree, last year I watched Amy sacrifice to it and this year I offered a bra that landed on the tree in a good spot. There’s also panties and beads on our tree but the bra was bright enough to make it. Sacrificing a bra day [singlepic id=5670 w=400 h=300 float=] There were plenty of costumes on the mountain today [singlepic id=5671 w=400 h=300 float=] With the end of season tradition, we hiked up to the top of the mountain. Morningside chair closed yesterday which meant a hike from the top of Storm Peak to get to the end of season festivities on top.
Today was closing day here at A-Basin Colorado. It’s June and last night it snowed 2 inches. I understand this is Colorado, higher elevation and I should be used to it…but it still amazes me. K and I arrived at A-Basin pretty early to find that it snowed more than a light flurry, it was busy but we managed to find good parking and we found out we should have slept a bit later till the snow softened up. I sported a hoodie for the first time this year on snow…I later changed into my jacket to protect me against the wind. The mountain was busy. Luckily a lot of people spent more time in the parking lot enjoying BBQing and drinking over riding the mountain. Lift lines weren’t too bad since A-Basin opened the Norway chairlift, helping with congestion at Pali chair today. K and I took a morning run on the upper mountain…just to check it out. The snow was sheet ice with the new snow from last night on top. It was not very fun to ride on. The lower mountain was a better option for the morning, there wasn’t much ice and the new snow overnight […]
