When the Dew Tour rolled into Breckenridge, I had the opportunity to sit down with Danny Davis to find out more about the new 2012 Green Mountain Project outerwear collection. The outerwear will utilize fabric made from recycled plastic bottles. It’s part of the next phase of the Burton x Mountain Dew partnership which works perfectly since Danny Davis is a sponsored rider of both brands and committed to improving sustainability. For 2013, this vision expands with the launch of the GMP outerwear collection, which includes three stylish and eco-friendly jackets and two pants for men, and two jackets and one pant for women, all featuring fabric created from the pellets of recycled bottles. In addition, the collection also implements recycled and natural blended materials that have a lower impact on the environment whenever possible, such as GMP Hemp Fortex, 3MTM ThinsulateTM insulation with recycled fibers, DRYRIDE EcoNanoshellTM 2L Fabric and 3-Layer Hemp Ripstop Fabric and recycled taffeta and mesh linings. Once inside the Mountain Dew RV, I sat face to face with Danny to check in on his season so far, thoughts on the outerwear and what he plans for his next step in snowboarding. He walked in on […]

It’s been a busy week in Colorado with the Dew Tour at Breckenridge but the perfect time to check out the action on the slopes and around town. This year Nike Snowboarding debuted a Streetstyle competition during the Dew Tour with urban inspired street features on Breckenridge’s Washington Street. The features were a van jib, wall ride, jersey barrier rail and dumpster feature (same style as TWS Shootout with Rome years back). Eric Beauchemin ended up taking home the big prize for the streetstyle rail jam. I missed out on seeing a lot of his hits and didn’t get any photos because dinner was calling a crew of us. But it was fun to watch the rest of the riders take to the streetstyle and check it out for a bit.

Today was the last day of the Totino’s Open aka Dew Tour at Breckenridge with an afternoon ending of slopestyle finals for the men and women. The afternoon start time meant a morning of snowboarding at Breckenridge and checking out the booths for their full fun factor. I was able to make turns with Mike from Signal on my new Custom Signal OG (handpainted by me), it’s a 148cm so it’s my new small jib board but I still had a blast riding it today. [singlepic id=7128 w=267 h=400 float=] The reason I came to the Dew Tour this weekend was for one of the blog readers, Leslie who works with Fuse Marketing. We met yesterday and were able to meet up for turns today. We ended up lapping the mountain till contest time and were able to find runs to ourselves despite the long lines at the base of Peak 8. [singlepic id=7131 w=400 h=267 float=] One of the highlights from the day was realizing the potential of no-backs (much more to come on nobacks) and Leslie found out through first hand experience when her Rome highback completely broke while riding.
Throughout the week the qualifiers have been going on at Breckenridge for the Totino’s Open aka Dew Tour and while I missed them, I was happy to come down for the finals today and tomorrow. Waking up to this view of Breckenridge Mountain this morning was amazing. [singlepic id=7102 w=400 h=267 float=] I wasn’t sure what to expect with the Totino’s Open/Dew Tour at Breckenridge after watching the events earlier this week, I definitely thought it was the commercialized version of snowboarding. I was kind of blown away by the sponsors that have their hand in snowboarding but as a result it was a huge turnout from crowds. [singlepic id=7115 w=400 h=267 float=] I went out last night to the bars which was a lot of fun but definitely meant a later start this morning, unfortunately missing the women’s pipe finals. As much as I love watching and promoting women, the men go higher and bigger. [singlepic id=7095 w=400 h=267 float=] It’s been an interesting journey when it comes to being recognized as a form of media by major outlets & contests. Luckily for me, the blog has been tremendous in the growth and recognition so that I can get […]

I know winter has arrived when the sounds outside my house are filled with the snow plow doing the morning drive-by and the quietness of a town covered in snow. It means waking up a bit earlier, dressing warmer and getting to enjoy shred time on the mountain which is why I live in a resort town. I was expecting December to be a quiet month but some events came up that I decided to attend just before the holidays hit and grounded me back in Steamboat. Here’s a couple events coming up that I’ll be attending and it’s great to see what contests are welcoming bloggers as media. [singlepic id=7007 w=400 h=300 float=] Grand Prix – Copper Mountain I wasn’t planning on attending the Grand Prix but an editor from one of the snowboard magazines convinced me I should go so it was hard to say no. I got my media credential so I’ll be on the scene capturing the event from the sidelines and seeing how it goes down. This years Grand Prix is the first Olympic Qualifying event for halfpipe. I’m actually pretty excited for it, love watching halfpipe and while it’s scary being around “real” photographers […]
