One of the biggest hassles that snowboarders face is finding that perfect fitting snowboard boot. Narrowing it down from such a wide range of boot companies to finding that perfect fit in the perfect size When Dogfunk came out with their Snowboard Boot Guide, I was really impressed with how thorough it was. Obviously took a lot of time and effort to complete the guide and I am very happy that a shop went to such lengths to help educate on finding the perfect snowboard boot. I was able to talk with James Ritchey, Dogfunk.com’s Knowledge Base, First Responder & Gear Guru Supervisor who is one of the testers in the boot guide to find out more about buying boots the dogfunk way. Shay: What were the reasons behind creating the snowboard boot buyers guide for online shoppers? James: One of the challenges we face every day is how to describe the fit of a snowboard boot to a customer over the phone, chat or in an email. It’s not like being in a local shop and being able to just slip the boot on and see. I would say that our top questions about boots are: How does it […]

Industry Profile: Backcountry.com women’s merchandise division coordinator Emily “Milly” Wallace Shay: So tell us about yourself? Milly: My name is Emily “Milly” Wallace. I am 25 and I live for anything that gives me an adrenaline rush. I shattered my back a few years ago and every day I try to live life as full as I can with the use of my legs. I love snowboarding, mountainboarding, kiteboarding, rock climbing, kayaking, hiking and running. These are the things that make me smile and make me feel fulfilled in life. Shay: What is your job title? Milly: Women’s Softgood Merchandise Division Coordinator. I started out as a gearhead, then moved to a gearhead supervisor, then moved up to my current position. Shay: Did your parents question your job choice? Milly: At this point in my life I think I have done enough questionable things that this was not anything they thought was too crazy. They were just glad that I was not working at a ski resort for minimum wage anymore. When I told them it can pay my monthly medical bills…they were stoked. Shay: What was your first set up? Milly: My brother got me a K2 Fat Bob […]

A couple years ago for snowboard.com I helped put together a comprehensive list of online snowboard shops that people could purchase gear from and hear other member’s feedback. I posted that list down below. The three shops that I consistently purchase from are Evo, Dogfunk/Backcountry, and Wave Rave. Each of them I’ve encountered great service, good selection and good prices. Occasionally I’ll purchase from other snowboard shops including those in my hometown of Steamboat Springs like Powdertools and Powder Pursuits (best to visit in person, but not a big online store) Depending what you are purchasing, the return policy is very important. If a shop gives you store credit, but does not offer a refund for something they don’t have in stock…that is a poor return policy. So be aware of other consumer reviews and choose your online shops wisely. Tightboards is in the middle of this problem and there are many complaints on the internet about them not fulfilling what’s in stock, not offering a refund and quite frankly…lacking customer service. In this day and age, you can always find a shop willing to give you free shipping for purchases over a certain amount. Even subscribing to snowboard shop […]
