2011 is almost over but 2012 could be a great New Year…especially if you win a ripping good time vacation from evo to Red Mountain Resort. All it takes is an entry into the evo contest and you can skip the resort experience for a thousand of acres of terrain all to yourself. Many more famous resorts would kill to have the combination of deep, dry snow, accessible location, and exciting, 1800 acres of varied terrain on three mountain peaks. Red is located on Canada’s Powder Highway in the Monashee Mountain range in Rossland, BC. Did we mention they average 2 riders per acre? Loads of pow all to yourself. Click here or the image to enter to win! This is what you’ll win: -Lift tickets for two people for 3 days to Red Mountain in Rossland, BC -3 nights slope-side lodging in the new Slalom Creek Condos (100 yards to lift) -Airfare for 2 from anywhere in the continental US or Canada (passport required) -Rental Car for 4 days during trip -1 free ski setup from Salomon: Salomon Shogun, Salomon Quest 14 and Salomon STH 12 Bindings. -1 free Snowboard and Snowboard Binding Setup from Rome Snowboards -A ripping […]

Over the past 10 years, evo has gone from online shop to brick ‘n mortar to becoming more than just a snowboard shop. Over the years evo has hosted many ski/snowboard film premieres, art exhibits in the gallery and many other fun events. When I lived in Seattle, evo was my local shop and it’s been tremendous to see them hit their 10 year anniversary (and many more to come). If you are near Seattle, I highly recommend supporting evo in their 10 year celebration next Friday. They know how to party and it’ll be a damn good time with a great crew of people. I won’t be able to make the trek up for the event but I hope many others do. To buy tickets for the party, go here and to check out the facebook invite, head here.

It’s all gone by pretty fast while building evo, chasing a ski career, recently starting a family and having the good fortune to do what I love with a lot of great people along the way. Shay: How has snowboarding changed your life? Bryce: If it wasn’t for snowboarding, I may not have met my wife! She’s a great rider and I’m not so great but we met through evo which I started so that I could figure out how to buy lift tickets and travel and she joined because of her love for the sport. Shay: How did you get your start in the industry, who or what opened up more opportunities for you? Bryce: My entry into the industry came from a couple of different directions.
What began as an online shop in 2001, evo then expanded to become a brick and mortar shop with a retail location in Fremont neighborhood of Seattle, Washington where they bring a venue, retail space and art gallery into one building seamlessly. Years later they continue to offer their services online or in person with quality products and services. They aren’t your typical snowboard shop and it’s clear once you step into the doors of evo that you’ve entered into a shop where the employees work as a team and the company believes in building a community around sport and art. evo was my snowboard shop when I lived in Seattle and despite moving thousands of miles away, they continue to be a shop I support because of the people behind the company and the personality they bring to snowboarding. They bring as much community involvement to their events and galleries that you wish you could fly out just to be part of it. [singlepic id=8313 w=400 h=267 float=] Outside of the store is the billboard that evo uses to update on events, sales and general store info for passer-by’s.
Friday, August 22nd marked evo’s summer company picnic in Seattle and I made sure that was an event not to miss out on. evo is one of my favorite snowboard shops; I support them and try to purchase from them every chance I get. This trip I actually picked up some magazines and the new Casual Industries Swatter Tee from evo when I stopped by. Earlier this summer I interviewed Gorio who I’ve known for jeez…10 years now and one of the things that came across in the interview was the people behind evo, to work with people you appreciate and value that makes your job better. When Molly invited me to the picnic I was stoked to get to meet more of the evo crew including Molly herself. What came from this picnic was seeing this family of people who run a snowboard shop. It was just fun to hang out with them for the afternoon…I even stayed longer than I expected. It says a lot about where you work when you enjoy the company of your co-workers long after work is done. The picnic was at Magnuson Park in Seattle, amazing location with a great view of Mt.
Shay: So tell us about yourself? Gorio: I was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. I have also lived in California, Ecuador, Mexico and London but always had a home base here in Seattle. I work at evo as the buyer. I really like being outside, not working at a desk. I really like baked goods (Oatmeal Raisin cookies, cinnamon rolls, berry pies). I have a theory that nobody likes coffee, they just get used to it. I love everything and I hate everyone (Shay laughing, asked Gorio if that was really true?) No, it just sounded funny. I’m random; I have a randomly selected memory with all these bits of useless information. It’s hard to talk about myself; it’s just easy for me to talk. Shay: What snowboard shop do you work for? Gorio: evo, www.evogear.com Shay: What is your job title? Gorio: I am the evo buyer for snowboards, wakeboards, outerwear, accessories and streetwear. That’s too much stuff to do well so I’ll be narrowing my focus soon. The streetwear is a temporary thing. Shay: Prior to Evo, what other shops have you worked at? Gorio: Worked at Olympic Sports in Seattle for 22 years before they closed […]
