Location: Mammoth, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked groomers to softer slushy runs. Setup: I rode the Flow NXT-AT bindings on the Flow Era with my Vans Veil Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: I set up the NXT-AT bindings at work right before I went out riding. It was actually the quickest I’ve adjusted them myself and much faster than I was expecting to do them. Fit: I’ve ridden the NXT-AT’s before and each time the men’s medium sizing works for my size 8 boots. They can size down for my boots with proper adjustments and there are no gaps on the width of the binding to my boot. My boot was okay in the heelcup, I could have done a better job adjusting the fit because there was slight lift upwards in the binding. The highback was comfortable with my boot height, no problems on it being too much. First Impression: The NXT-AT’s are a popular binding for good reason. All around handling with easy quick access. Appearance: Probably my most favorite graphics of the Flow line for 2012, the colors are more subtle with blue, black and white colorways. The power strap is mostly black with […]

It’s hard to believe that 15 years ago, Flow Bindings began the speed entry system they are now known for. A system that has been designed outside of the “norm” box for bindings, the kick, lock and drop system featuring the reclining highback that makes strapping in easy. In 11-12, they continue to improve their binding designs towards three simple concepts: performance, comfort and convenience. Flow’s core technology features the original reclining highback, the one piece 3D powerstrap and the patented power triangle. These fundamentals elements define a flow binding. For technology in 11-12, Flow features a rockered baseplate that reduces the actual footprint on the binding and allows your board to flex naturally. In the highback, the Flex zone tweak.6 or .7 allows you to get your jib on with different flexing top sections. The 3D powerstrap comes in three options: I-Flex, A-Flex and CI-Flex for the ultimate feel and comfort. Micro adjustability on the bindings allows you to set it and forget it. This is a sneak peak of Flow Bindings so not all bindings have write-ups and photos. Flow NXT-AT All mountain freestyle. Flow’s most versatile and performance-orientated all-mountain binding and many team riders favorite choice. Features […]

Shay: What is your job title? Eric: Snowboard Product Line Manager/ Valet/ Barista/ Diaper Changer. [singlepic id=6287 w=400 h=300 float=] Shay: How did you get your start in the industry, what opened up more opportunities for you? Eric: My first job came from me riding on some shitty day at Alpental in 1995 where I met the Ride staff. A little later we ran into each other and they said they had openings….that was how I got a job managing part of the warehouse and became a test rider. From there my buddy Jack who was the team manager at Ride, started working at Flow in 2003 and he helped me get a job at Flow. I had some experience with boards and it all just came together. Shay: Did your parents question your job choice? Eric: Not at all but once I got it, they were both proud that I worked so hard and long to get a job like this. Setup: I rode the Flow NXT-ATSE’s with the Flow Era and my Rome Vamp size 8 boots. Time to set up the binding: Longer than average to make sure the bindings were adjusted to my boot and set up properly. With Flows you really need to dial them in or the ride won’t be the same. Fit: No gaps on the width of the binding and with Flows I feel comfortable riding the men’s binding in my size 8 women’s boots. My boot was snug in the heelcup without any movement and the highback was aligned with my boot height, no discomfort on the highback to boot fit. First Impression: The Special Edition NXT-ATSE’s might take over the regular edition. Appearance: There’s a lot going on with the NXT-ATSE’s in terms of colors and design. But I don’t think it looks bad, I liked the crazy print and design it has going with the mix of words across the binding. The chrome ratchets are pretty sweet as well and shine in the sunlight. Comfort: Flows are built around being comfortable without any pressure points thanks to […]

Gone are the days that flows are bulky, heavy and just for beginners. Each year Flow steps up their binding line to be more lightweight, adjustable and quick access for more riding time. In the flow line, there are bindings for freestyle, freeride or all mountain for both women and men. In 09-10, Flow continues to design bindings with style that not only look good but make it easier to get in and out. Setup: I rode the Flow NXT-AT bindings with the Flow Myriad and my Vans Omni Focus Size 8 Boots. Time to set up the binding: The set up time is average, but it takes a little bit longer to make sure the bindings are dialed. Greg the rockies rep for Flow does a really good job of making sure everyone is set up, adjusted their boot to the binding and comfortable. Fit: My boots fit just fine into the flows, not any gaps on the width of the bindings and my boot heel fit fine in the heelcup. Highback wasn’t taller than my boot and still comfortable. First Impression: I’m getting used to them, finally! Appearance: I rode the red and white nxt-at’s which I liked. Cool colors with a smooth design to it. I can see how the white would get dirty quickly but that’s the case with any gear when it’s spring slush or early season mud. Comfort: Flow’s I-Flex powerstrap is all comfort.
Location: Keystone, Colorado Snow Conditions: Snowing with hard groomed to packed powder conditions on the runs. Setup: I rode the Flow Essence bindings with the Flow Infinite 159cm and my Vans Omni Focus Size 8 Boots. Time to set up the binding: Flow bindings definitely take a little bit longer to set up in terms of adjusting the binding properly. The actual setup time is average, but Greg is pretty dang quick when it comes to setting you up. The adjustment takes a couple minutes longer, well worth the wait to make sure you have the binding fully adjusting to your boot. Fit: No problem with the essence fitting my boot. In the essence, my boot heel was snug in the binding but without any grab. The powerstrap fit properly over my boot and centered. I will point out I do ride boots with boa and there is no problem with the boa strap and the powerstrap on the flows. First Impression: Finally a more aggressive binding that won’t let me get lazy and carve up the mountain like I should be. Appearance: I like the colors of the essence this year, I rode the essence featuring white and green. […]
