Time to set up the binding: I set up the NXT-AT bindings at work right before I went out riding. It was actually the quickest I’ve adjusted them myself and much faster than I was expecting to do them. Fit: I’ve ridden the NXT-AT’s before and each time the men’s medium sizing works for my size 8 boots. They can size down for my boots with proper adjustments and there are no gaps on the width of the binding to my boot. My boot was okay in the heelcup, I could have done a better job adjusting the fit because there was slight lift upwards in the binding. The highback was comfortable with my boot height, no problems on it being too much. First Impression: The NXT-AT’s are a popular binding for good reason. All around handling with easy quick access. Appearance: Probably my most favorite graphics of the Flow line for 2012, the colors are more subtle with blue, black and white colorways. The power strap is mostly black with […]

Location: Mammoth, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked groomers to softer slushy runs. Setup: I rode the Flow Drifter with my Union Team bindings and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 159cm. First Impression: This is not the same board I rode at the SIA on-snow – which is a great thing! Weight: average Flex: Right in the middle of the board flex spectrum, not as stiff was the Infinite and not as a soft as the Verve or Era. I found that the nose and tail were slight stiffer than the middle of the board. The torsional flex was softer, easy to maneuver and forgiving. The nose cut through some choppy conditions and made for a more stable ride. The Drifter features I-Rock reverse camber which is combined with a convex base, camber starting before the binding area. Turning: The Drifter sidecut was a bit rough at the on-snow but was fixed by the time I rode it at Mammoth. It could handle an assortment of turns with the dual transitional sidecut, short and long radius just fine. The first time I rode it, it hooked and almost bucked you out of a turn but this time, the board was smooth […]

They design products that allow you to just go out, ride and forget about your gear. Size: 159cm. First Impression: Solid freeride board – just wish it wasn’t spring conditions to ride this board. Weight: average Flex: Longitudinally the Infinite felt stiffer with a more forgiving torsional flex on the board. The nose seemed a tad softer and a stiffer tail that you could rally through turns with. Overall the board is medium-stiffer for flex. The Infinite features Pop-Cam, a three phase camber that pops like a normal camber board but with a flatter profile at the tips and between the feet to smooth out the roughest terrain while increasing grip. The Pop-Cam is a mellow profile so you don’t feel like you are riding a crazy reverse camber board that can’t handle the mountain, this board can handle the mountain with the Pop-Cam profile. Turning: If you want responsive and aggressive turns, the Infinite definitely performed for that type of riding and functionality. The board was quick to engage and definitely made you rally turns like a race car, holding speed consistently through the turn and finishing […]

Location: Mammoth, CA Snow Conditions: Hardpacked groomers to softer slushy runs. Setup: I rode the Flow Verve with my Union Team and Vans Veil Boots size 8. Size: 155cm. First Impression: Freestyle fun – that’s the Verve snowboard Weight: average Flex: The Verve has a softer freestyle flex to it. Torsionally it’s not as soft but that helps give it more stability on the mountain and handling on carves. It’s softer on the nose/tail so you can really get the playful butters but a stiffer flex between the bindings so you hold the board into carves. Overall despite being a softer park board, a lot of the qualities of the board make it great for handling the whole mountain. The Verve features EZ Rock which is a super mellow reverse camber combined with a convex base. Turning: Once you initiated the turns, the Verve was locked in and held tight on edge grip to the conditions. It wasn’t as responsive for quick turns but once you did engage the edge, it held long radius turns very well down the mountain. I felt really comfortable riding it, especially when conditions were brutal tough and the board held an awesome edgehold. First Impression: Easy does it, that’s the Era just relax and enjoy the ride Weight: average Flex: I felt that the Era was a softer flexing park board from Flow, softer flexing torsionally between the bindings with a stiffer flex from the bindings to the nose/tail. Overall on the softer side. Flow describes is as a 2.5 from 1-5 on the flex scale, I felt like it was more of a 2 personally. The Era features I-Rock reverse camber which is combined with a convex base, camber starting before the binding area. Turning: The Era was incredibly easy to engage into turns and the I-rock helped make turn initation super comfortable. Once in a carve, you could turn it more aggressively but for the most part an all around easy to ride board. I never felt the edging wasn’t in control and it felt fine on long and short radius turns but the shorter radius were smoother on the board.
It’s hard to believe that 15 years ago, Flow Bindings began the speed entry system they are now known for. A system that has been designed outside of the “norm” box for bindings, the kick, lock and drop system featuring the reclining highback that makes strapping in easy. In 11-12, they continue to improve their binding designs towards three simple concepts: performance, comfort and convenience. Flow’s core technology features the original reclining highback, the one piece 3D powerstrap and the patented power triangle. These fundamentals elements define a flow binding. For technology in 11-12, Flow features a rockered baseplate that reduces the actual footprint on the binding and allows your board to flex naturally. In the highback, the Flex zone tweak.6 or .7 allows you to get your jib on with different flexing top sections. The 3D powerstrap comes in three options: I-Flex, A-Flex and CI-Flex for the ultimate feel and comfort. Micro adjustability on the bindings allows you to set it and forget it. This is a sneak peak of Flow Bindings so not all bindings have write-ups and photos. Setup: I rode the Flow Prima bindings on the Flow Drifter with my Vans Veil Boots size 8. Time to set up the binding: One of the big components with Flow bindings and rear entry is making sure they are adjusted properly to your boot so you can get in quick and get out quicker. It took a tad longer to adjust than other bindings but well worth the wait. Fit: The Flow Prima’s I rode were on the large size for my boot but still fit comfortably. It was only noticeable on the baseplate where I had a bit wider room than I need for my boots and more toe ramp but I didn’t feel it impact the ride.
Since 1996, Flow has been in the game of snowboarding with boards for a range of snowboarders. In 10-11 they continue to offer their sick lineup to riders wanting boards for powder, park, pipe, freeriding or just learning how to ride. For 10-11 Flow offers a variety of board options depending on your riding style. Their camber pop cam focuses on 3-areas to rock out with camber, under the feet is traditional camber with flat between the bindings for added grip on ice, better float in pow and to lock onto rails while the tips are mellow for a more forgiving ride. Their Reverse Camber Pow-Rock utilizes two cambered areas and a long mellow reverse camber from binding to binding to maximize your surface area and float in the deep stuff. The Reverse Camber I-rock is reverse camber and a convex base between your feet for mellow carving with no edge catching, combined with camber in the binding area that goes flat just before the nose and tail. Finally their Reverse Camber EZ-Rock is perfect for the rail yard or entry level rider who wants stability surfy feel without feeling off balance with a reverse camber and mellow convex base […]
