The weather wasn’t supposed to be cooperating for Saturday but it didn’t matter one bit. The mix of clouds and slight rain drops didn’t impact the fun that was had. I left the skier at home (ankle injury) and headed up to the mountain to see who was around. It worked out that after a couple laps by myself, I ran into Eric and Lucien from Flow Snowboards who were up product testing for the weekend. Later on Michelle joined up with us for some laps. The mountain conditions have been insanely good. I have to remind myself that it’s mid-May and the conditions are just as good as mid-winter on the mountain. Yesterday I swung by P3 board shop in town to drop off the 2012 Never Summer Proto so they could have it as a demo board and Trotter let me borrow the 2012 Lib Tech Trice so I could try it out. This has been that one board that is always requested but I’ve been hesitant to try it because it’s a mid-wide but it’s definitely not the first wider board I’ve ridden so finally caved in to trying it out. After a couple warm up runs […]

Usually I can walk outside the building to chair 6, wait a couple minutes, run into someone I know lapping park and have a riding buddy for a couple laps. Today was not that day, waited, called, texted and nothing. Good thing I had my music to listen to. I ended up lapping 6 for a good lunch break and just having fun as best as I could without anyone to ride with. I ended up keeping the camera in the pocket, only grabbed one shot and that was my day. Looking forward to the weekend. Already planning to ride one day and take one day off. That’s the best part about spring is having at least one weekend day like a mini vacation.

In the springtime, year round employees get to shadow other departments to help out with the limited operations. I really like shadowing lifts because it gets me outside with ride breaks and a chance to see friends on the mountain. We had winter conditions the past couple days but today the sun came out for my liftie experience (yeah was totally hoping for sunshine and not snow). I ended up helping out at Chair 6, the park chair, over lunchtime. When my shift came to an end, I got to take a couple laps with Michelle Shea whose been crashing at my house this month plus meet and ride with Diana, Shred Betties TM. It was a fun couple laps cruising through Forest Trail. The best part of the day was seeing all the new features in Forest Trail, it’s a dream right now and also a lot of goals to conquer. I ended up taking out the lotus for the day and took it through some jumps, bonks, flat boxes and barrels. We ended up running into the Vans crew who were lapping and testing boots (I’ve been testing out my 11-12 Vans Veil’s all winter with almost 100 […]

What a beautiful day! I wasn’t planning to snowboard but since we’re still shadowing lifts to help out every now and then, I got to head back to chair #6 to help scan passes/tickets and greet the park riders during the lunchtime. I absolutely love it, it gets me out of the office and I get to see friends as they lap the parks. When I ended shadowing, I ended up taking a couple laps with friends to get in my shred time for the day. It was slushy slop by then, but totally fun! The halfpipe AcroBag is back up and today some of the US Snowboard Team were up hitting it like Louie Vito and JJ Thomas.
The spring sun came back out in Mammoth for a day of shred. I headed out to see who was out riding and get in a couple lunchtime laps. Lunch means heading out to chair #6 for lunch laps in the park. I’m stoked to have two new roommates in town for the month, my roommate from Windells Keri Herman and Michelle Shea are at my pad which means I get to take laps with them whenever I can. Plus everyone else who is super rad! Nosey on the flat box [singlepic id=11614 w=500 h=334 float=] While I was in line at Chair #6, a snowfall wizzed by. I looked around to see the deviant who threw it and recognized Mark Licsak from Flow in line. Ended up greeting him up top and taking a pic to prove it.
Finally it’s spring slushy riding. Winter’s been a blast but I wondered when the temps would get warm and the snow would turn into crazy slushfest on the mountain. It’s May but finally it’s arrived! Today I headed out for lunch laps with the girls, we’d just lap chair 6 and work on our park riding. It’s been fun to see myself improve this year from not jumping to jumping and feeling more comfortable. Still gotta work on grabs but we’ll get there eventually! We mixed between park and pipe. Now that the 22 foot pipe is softer, it’s more fun and not as scary. Here’s Ashley getting some air at the bottom of the pipe.
One of the many perks of my job with Mammoth is being one of the voices behind Mammoth’s social media. I started to notice that people really wanted to know about conditions on Facebook so I grabbed the camera, geared up and took the gondola with my co-worker Dan to the top of the mountain. I captured photos of a mix of terrain and ended up posting them on Mammoth facebook so everyone could see that while it’s May in Mammoth, the mountain has amazing spring conditions for riding on. It’s still white! Dan at the top of the gondola [singlepic id=11577 w=600 h=900 float=] Dan handles PR for the mountain and also skis it quite nicely [singlepic id=11578 w=500 h=334 float=] The latest board to try out which is perfect for the spring park laps is next year’s Arbor Draft. It’s been getting in quite the park lap time.
It’s officially May and Mammoth is nowhere close to closing up on the mountain. But Spring conditions have finally arrived, sunny skies with minimal winds and hardpacked snow in the morning to slushy afternoon fun fests. Today was a blast on the mountain, so much fun that I took minimal pictures and just enjoyed riding for riding’s sake. We mostly lapped Forest Trail and Main Park. On my runs through Forest Trail I hit most of the jumps, the corrugated tube, the up box and the bonk feature. I was riding the 2012 Arbor Draft for the day. Usually when I lap Main Park it’s to get footage of the skier hitting the jumps and rails. Today some of the aussies stepped it up and hit the Main Park jumps so we got some shots of them. Nosey on the step over jump in Main Park [singlepic id=11519 w=500 h=334 float=] While working at Windells last summer I had many roommates and housemates but one of the first people I met at camp was pro skier Josh Bishop. He’s been in town with the Armada team this week and it was rad to see him lapping park. Always fun to […]

It’s been starting to get busier in town with President’s holiday quickly approaching but even still, took my time this morning to get up to the mountain and start making laps with Pat and his crew. I ended up running into Dee Dee so was able to get in laps with her and meet one of the blog readers, Jon throughout the day. Dee Dee rocking her creations [singlepic id=10799 w=300 h=533 float=] It was definitely a park day but the kind of park day you dread. Forest Trail was awesome but there were some close encounters because too many people were riding without park knowledge and didn’t have common sense. I got cut off in front of jumps, had people ride too close to jumps and pipe runs and just was lucky to walk away unscathed at the end of the day. The boys staying close [singlepic id=10800 w=500 h=281 float=] I even called it early because it was like that and I had stuff to do at home. Even with the busy day, it was a fun park hot laps day hitting up the jump line and trying the flat box in forest trail.
